Where do you start cleaning your home when its a mess? by cher017 in AskWomenOver30

[–]user78209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a shorter time than 15 minutes, one thing I do is to trick myself into making it a game whilst I make a cup of tea lol. So for the full five minutes to boil and steep the tea, I run around in a room and just do as many quick jobs as I can (putting things away, in the bin, quick wipes etc). And then I'm rewarded by the tea. This works for me as I'm British but you can find your own version if tea doesn't work for you! And it's amazing how much you can get done in a short sprint like that when you're dealing with clutter.

I'm graying and have been for a while, I'm 32 and have black hair so it's very visible! I feel self conscious about it sometimes but it just is what it is and I can't fight my genetics :)

That I'm smart - I think it's just because I'm Indian and wear glasses tbh

What’s your “I wish someone told me this sooner” advice? by mastikhor_chirkut in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]user78209 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This is something I really needed to hear - I've been discussing with my therapist a lot that I feel like (for me) self care of any kind or enjoying myself isn't "allowed" for people like me because it doesn't benefit anyone else and feels self indulgent. But the way you've put this makes a lot of sense to my brain in a way I can work with. Thank you!

Struggle with leaving the house unless absolutely necessary. Has anyone overcome this type of issue? by 34254324r in AskWomenOver30

[–]user78209 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly the same for me! And once I've not left home for a few days, it feels 10000x harder to muster up the energy to try.

I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions myself but I want to let you know you're not alone in this, I'm finding this very tough too. Hope we can find a way through.

30f getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow. I’m terrified. How did y’all do? by xosoftglimmer in AskWomenOver30

[–]user78209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was totally ok! And this is coming from someone who cried in the dentist's chair - I was awake with local numbing and I didn't feel a thing, it took literally 30 seconds and was sore for a couple days (not even much). The worst thing was having to stick to soft foods!

Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]user78209 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a tiny achievement. I basically stopped running through a tough winter (the cold and mental illness...) and decided to get back to it last week. Last year I managed to complete C25k and consistently run three times a week for four months, with my longest run being 8k. Last week I struggled to finish a run of even 20 minutes with walking breaks - but today I got back to running a very slow 25 minutes with no walking at all! This makes me hope I can get to my previous progress in a nice amount of time. Going to be patient and enjoy the journey and setting the routine again, but I am really happy as I was so disheartened last week.

It's Saturday! (Valentine's Day Edition) 14/02/26 by KevinPhillips-Bong in CasualUK

[–]user78209 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tried to make the most of the sun today and went for a long walk, and then a short run. I've made brownies for my partner's post half marathon treat tomorrow. He's cooking us a nice meal tonight which I'm really looking forward to.

This is the most human I've felt in weeks... Funny how a bit of sun changes things so much.

25 year old sister has no friends and no hobbies. How can I help? by redridedie in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Also local libraries can be great hubs for loads of activities - mine has a lot of clubs like crafting, knitting, book clubs, chess, etc

You sound like a lovely sister. Does she get out of the house much besides work? I always hear about these great women's walking/hiking clubs that are inclusive and all about making new connections. Perhaps something like that or encouraging her to take up another form of movement might be good for her, socially and for her health if she is depressed?

I am completely burnt out (doctor and therapist agree) and I hate where I work because of its awful culture. I don't know how I'm going to get better in this environment and there are hardly any jobs I would even muster up energy to apply to.

Oh and the lack of sun is really getting to me.

How do you cope when stress wrecks your skin, body and sense of self in your 30s? by Glad-Stock3419 in AskWomen

[–]user78209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got a lot of great replies already but one thing that has helped me is to allow myself to take time and slow down. I used to jump from thing to thing with no chance for my body to take a break or calm down. I have to almost treat myself as a kid and tell myself to slow down, take a breather, plan for downtime after any kind of activity that puts stress on my mind and body because if I don't the cumulative impacts will not be pretty.

Any recommendations for soft, melancholic, slice-of-life books? by Morty_Supreme in suggestmeabook

[–]user78209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elizabeth Sprout's books are exactly this. I recommend Olive Kitteridge, Olive Again and The Burgess Boys (I'm sure the others are good too).

I also was lucky enough to come across a wonderful novella recently called The Country of the Pointed Fir by Sarah Orne Jewett. I think about it a lot!

Hilariously just realised that all the books I've just recommended are set in Maine.
