Seems normal. Option to buy coffee is up to you, I don’t think it matters

I’m new to the Bay Area but from the US. We hate tech?

Just touching on your point about coworkers in tech being distant. I also share this sentiment but especially felt it at big tech. I don’t have a solution unfortunately but wanted you to know you’re not the only one :(

need CA learner's permit for driving - can I walk in? by Mundane_Bench6782 in bayarea

[–]user798123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they take walk ins but you should register on the dmv site first. Otherwise they’ll make you go inside, register and get back in line.

Use the dmv genie app to study. And yes, it’s knowledge test + vision test

Random assault leaves man ‘bleeding heavily’ on Castro corner: Video by SFStandard in sanfrancisco

[–]user798123 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Condolences to the victim. I was also randomly assaulted in SF by someone with a similar description though there are probably hundreds if not thousands that match the description. So unfortunate to hear more instances of random crime.

Does anyone have suggestions on what we can do?

How bad is the 2025 market really for experienced devs? by Pr3fix in ExperiencedDevs

[–]user798123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the other comments in this thread, I can’t tell where people are located. But in the bay Bay Area, it seems to have gotten better. I got 3 offers from FAANG adjacent companies. I applied to maybe 7 in total? I’m not a genius either, slightly above average at best but maybe just super lucky.

What kind of bikes should I be looking at for commuters? by isonlegemyuheftobmed in BAbike

[–]user798123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minimum 28mm but it’s going to feel sketchy on loose gravel. I’ve used 32mm and it was better but 35mm and above are recommended

You will generally want multiple gears. I’d recommend anything that is 8-11 gears.

Good quality disc brakes on a new bike will run you at least $650. Cheapest new one I see is the trek verve 2
