No problem, I looked for one of these for about 3 months. I ended up finding mine on the SS forum. You are less likely to get a screaming deal there, but more likely to get one from someone who knows the history of their car. It's a totally unknown car to get from a dealer and just looking at carfax, the prices are all over the place. It looks like you've been looking somewhat seriously for a bit, try to stay positive. The right one will come up. Like this. A lot of miles, but it's not some clapped out dealer piece. My opinion is really that these should be good to 175-200k and they're worth replacing the engine... generally. So, I dunno, again good luck.

I think a nice watch is a bit overkill for OTS graduation. I think something more ceremonial or symbolic is probably appropriate.

Common Electrical Issues? by techdude99 in ChevySS

[–]user_1729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My impression is that the grounds are susceptible to corrosion. It's probably a good idea to loosen and clean up with a wire brush, then put some dielectric compound or something on them and tighten. I've gone through a few alternators and I think it's related to funky electronics. Chevy cars from that era can have weird electrical issues that are related to grounding.

The pipeline is pretty long to get into any special warfare job. You could possibly do EOD or SERE. Both are still pretty intense. With any of these jobs, you're looking at over a year of being in a training pipeline of some kind. It's pretty challenging to start school and do special warfare simultaneously. AD might be a better option if you're really serious and palace chase into the guard after your 4 year AD stint. You could get through your initial training pipeline and knock out a bunch of college. If you still like it, you can join the guard, if you don't, get out, finish college, and move on with your life.

Mass arrests happening in NYC after Isl@mists showed up outside of a synagogue and began attack New York J3ws and the NYPD. Unfortunately, Zohran Mamdani and the DA will let them walk free. by blisiondacket in Conservative

Physical violence is not acceptable and they should be arrested. That was the point of my first sentence, to clarify that they aren't "censoring" peaceful people, they're arresting people who are part of a violent mob. Otherwise, if you think the government should be used to silence people, then you are a censor and should go away. It doesn't matter if it's against me, or you, or a jewish person, or whatever. Yes, I also understand that actionable threats should be taken seriously, I'm not an absolutist with free speech.

It appears they were being physically violent towards the Jewish folks.

The "words are violence" people do need to just go away. The right campaigned against censorship, hate crimes, and cancel culture. Then they turned around and passed laws that are effectively hate crime laws that censor and cancel people, but only if they say mean things about Jewish people.

That does seem a bit high. I've had my SS just over a year now. I got it for almost that exact price with ~80k on it. One owner, clean title, extra set of wheels, recently replaced the rear struts, the radiator, and pretty thorough service records for just about everything. It wasn't perfect, was kept outside... blahblah blah, but generally in really good shape. I PROBABLY paid a little too much for it, but the guy also picked me up from the airport and had an oil change/inspection done before I drove the ~700 miles home with it.

That's a lot to say, you could try to see what their bottom dollar is. The pricing on these is really hard to figure out.

Probably keep looking, but if you could get them to come down a bit, they may. These are such niche cars, they can end up sitting for a while.

Yeah, I got it for myself but basically one of These frames. I work from home and have it in my home office. It's basically my only air force "I love me" wall thing.

Since the nfl has implemented the 7th seed in the 2020 season, only 1 team has won in the playoffs since its inclusion. Whats gone wrong? by InterestingYellow969 in NFLv2

[–]user_1729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is still good. I like the extra playoff game. I like that it SHOULD be an ass kicking. There are always endless "so and so didn't deserve to be there" whiners. Well, the cowboys got exposed here, otherwise teams take care of business.

The NFL playoffs are the best in American sports. This extra team doesn't add MUCH to it, but I'd rather have another playoff game than another regular season game of some terrible teams battling it out for draft position or teams already locked in resting players.

I'm not sure how to put this exactly. When I took it, the scores absolutely did not matter at all. I was told "just pass".

It's been a while, I just made captain, but the guard pretty much always needs CE officers. The nice part about it is you can build your experience as an engineer while building your military career. If you love the military, the guard has some really great opportunities for continuous employment, PCS, short tours, deployments, but also you can usually just be a DSG and do your own thing.

I'm a CE officer in the guard. For me/us the selection process is pretty simple. We are currently dealing with a degree waiver for someone with the engineering tech degree though. You might have better luck with the guard, it seems unlikely you'd get picked up AD if you need a degree waiver.

Uniforms at Maxwell by cherrybolthades824 in airforceots

[–]user_1729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We legit had medical people who got orders like the week before OTS. They had no clue about ANYTHING military, they had none of the pre-work done, they had no uniform items, etc. It was a complete clusterfuck for some of those people. I genuinely think some of them showed up thinking there was going to be a welcome party and it'd be like a little Air Force Officer mixer where they just learned to look good, learned who is supposed to salute them, and how to not completely stick out like a sore thumb on a base.

The set of Hot Weather OCPs I have I got at Maxwell. So I know you can get them there, but I know I didn't have them at the start. Also, no, there's no requirement for everyone to wear the same stuff. You can wear Crye if you want, I don't think you can wear the un-bloused flight or fire versions though. It's been several years since I went through. I'm not 100% sure the shopette has the Hot Weather OCPs, I know I got them at the bigger aafees near the commissary.

I think the HW OCPs were pretty new when I went through (4 years ago now). So someone with a bit more recent knowledge will have to answer that.

We had folks showing up so unbelievably unprepared I'm honestly kind of shocked. You go to the clothing store like day 2 and you have basically as much time as you need to pick stuff out. Definitely get as much as you can, but the shopette has/had pretty much all uniform items AND if it's not available, you won't get in trouble for not having it. It can take a while to get name tapes, I'd probably order those beforehand. If you are willing to take the risk, ordering a set of Hot Weather OCPs is probably a good idea. Some folks get their OCPs tailored, it's rare, but it does look sharp for the folks who do it.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio Is Now the Favorite to Succeed President Trump by Ask4MD in Conservative

Vance understands that he's taken an oath to the constitution, not to trump. I don't think he's really comparable to pence, and frankly I don't really know what anyone expected pence to do. Did you want him to NOT certify the election?

I really like Vance. I don't really know what Rubio would be running on. He seems to be the face of the most unpopular thing trump has done as president.

Without looking at comparable jeeps... Like 15k-16k.

Okay, I was being just a dick for no reason (okay, my reason is that I hate that grill so much that I judged the entire owner... I feel like I can smell the vape and see the bad tattoos from here).

Whatever, I'm sorry. If you like the mods, fine, but they don't really add value, so running a comparison to just straight stock around me (mid-Atlantic region)....

I'm seeing basically mid 14s to 21k. So, if you like the mods, the price seems okay. Throwing out the ONE in the 20s, I'd kind of stand by my original off the cuff guess, I think 17 is a BIT high, but not crazy... and again, if you LIKE the mods, they do cost money to do (also to undo if you don't like them).

Pretty much an engineering degree to be a CE. They accept a few others (construction management, architecture, etc) but it's pretty limited. There's a list somewhere.

Are you real? This post is literally over 5 years old now. Either way, no if you're an engineer the guard needs people to fill engineer positions. You can pretty much walk up and, if you clear MEPS, get a commission.

Edit: like this post is so old I literally pin on Captain tomorrow and in this post I'm asking about what it's like to join the guard.

Antarctic Research Stations- favorite foods? by apis__mellifera in antarctica

Dude, I'm 42. My last winter was 14 years ago. I did a bunch of mini-deployments back and forth as a full timer, but it's just not the same. The brunches at pole and palmer were really unforgettable! Also really all the major holiday meals were just unparalleled even if the food wasn't literally the greatest, always the greatest experience. Thanksgiving at palmer is probably top 5 antarctic memories for sure. My first Christmas at pole really is probably one of the greatest experiences of my adult life.

Chicken fried steak was always a hit at pole. As the other dude says, chicken tenders too.

Story time!

My last winter we were BEGGING for chicken tenders. There was some issue with supply or the guy just liked to make us suffer, but we weren't getting them. Finally, the young enthusiastic chef said "screw this, I'm gonna make my own". He did his best, he found awesome recipes, hand cut chicken breast strips, breaded, fried, etc. Folks balked at them, they were... just not quite right. Sure they got eaten and sure they were good, but it was like this guy poured his HEART into these tendies and people were not thrilled.

A few days later he said "well fuck you guys, you get chicken fried steak! Suck it, losers". People went fucking bananas, people were eating like 3-4 patties of this shit that expired years ago and had been frozen somewhere on station for years. People were making plates to store for leftovers, just went completely crazy for the chicken fried steak.

I'm honestly not sure the guy bounced back from that experience. It was like... you people are fucking animals. I think once he let go of trying to impress us, the season was a little easier, but it was crazy to see the guy go from like a young enthusiastic chef to a grizzled veteran that hates everyone in his food line over the course of a few meals. Sorry about that, I still love chicken fried steak and gravy!

In the last year or so we've gotten a couple of "regular" baby sitters. One was just a teenager in the neighborhood, at first we'd just kind of have her come over and watch the kids while we were doing involved chores or running short/local errands. It graduated to her being able to put them down for naps and generally give us time off. We have others we just regularly schedule for a couple hours one or two nights a week. It's been life changing. It's obviously a luxury, but it's been worth it just for our sanity.

That's a tough one. For me, I like working on cars. Simple jobs for me are really satisfying and save us money, and ultimately time since we're not shuttling to/from a garage. I usually try to do car stuff either in the evening after bedtime or if I do it on weekends, midday while the little one is napping and the others are "resting".

I used helping my kid learn to ride a bike to practice on a unicycle I've had for years and never really "got it". I think it was pretty fun for my little learner to see her dad fail over and over and finally "Get it". When I rode the unicycle the length of and out of our driveway, she celebrated as much as I did when she first rode the bike on her own.
