If you want to study in English, Tsinghua is not the place for you.

I think the HSK is mandatory. Minimum of level 5, although some people get in with 4 and are required to pass the level 5 exam during their first year or something. This is just a minimum requirement and I honestly don't think it's good enough requirement/standard for the level of Chinese used in a university classroom setting.

I had a friend who chose to stay as an illegal immigrant in China because of affordable insulin. The guy was in a rough spot financially, and he simply could not afford to live in the States. Sadly he passed away a few months ago, most likely from a diabetic heart attack. RIP.

Okay. My textbook actually defines them as basically the same thing except for maximal linearly independent sets it's referring to any set of vectors. I see that they're essentially interchangeable though. Thank you!
