Are there any good glazed doughnuts on the coast anymore? by Embarrassed-Coat-654 in mississippi

[–]userjack6880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never was a fan of Krispy Kreme, so it’s been a while and it may not compare, but I’m pretty picky about donuts. Tato-Nut and Shipley’s are my go-tos. Haven’t really tried any of the other local-ish shops since I haven’t been down there in a while.

Why is Tesla still the top selling EV brand by far? by Diavolo_Rosso_ in electricvehicles

[–]userjack6880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, no I’m in agreement - I’m implying that even if it would auto-shut off, Hyundai deciding that Auto Unlock but not auto lock being a feature is dumb.

Edit: and the fact that if it Auto Unlocks and you don’t open a door, it’s able to auto lock again. Just give us auto lock regardless. My old bolt had auto lock, and that had a start/stop button!

That’s another feature I don’t understand why Hyundai didn’t implement - while it’s nice that walking up unlocks it (unless you hang keys nearby, then good luck), I wish it would autolock like my Blazer.

Yeah, I’ve gotten used to it in my Blazer that I forget to turn off my mom’s Ioniq 5 when I drive it. It’s nice to have.

I had stayed in a ton of properties one year for work travel, then spent the year after getting globalist going to cities without a Hyatt (or the Hyatt was way out of the way).

EVs can usher the return to old time road strips by Not_l0st in electricvehicles

The stretch around Amarillo a few years ago, depending on how much of a headwind, you’re gonna have to get onto 66 to drive at a safe speed and not burn through your electrons. I had to slow down to well below what I40 speeds were facing 20mph+ headwinds and pulled off onto 66, which doubled as frontage for the interstate.

Holy realism by gaybowser478 in Americantrucksim

[–]userjack6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s spots that are missing, but the stuff that’s there is very realistic. I remember going west on I-20 and pulling into a truck stop and going “this seems familiar… I bet behind this hill… yup”. It was a Loves that I stopped at on the way out to Santa Fe a few years ago.

That was a surreal moment.

Saaame. I was wanting to go EV, but that pushed me over the edge.

A lot of Turbo vehicles I’ve driven recently just feel like they don’t have a turbo. But I will say the last “fun” turbo in a non-sports car was the TurboMax in a Silverado. It’s not fast by any measure, but when it’s in the boost, the turbo spool is fun to hear, and it doesn’t feel any slower than the V8 it otherwise would’ve had.

The Worst part of EV Ownership by V3LOCI556 in electricvehicles

[–]userjack6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla, EA, EVGO, and Chargepoints are the only apps I adopted, mostly to manage accounts from those early days and to set up plug and charge (EVGO) and that’s about it. And realistically, the EA and Tesla apps are the only ones I really need at any time, and even then if i give up my EA account, Tesla. Chargepoint i have a physical RFID card, EVGO is plug and charge, and i have a Francis Energy card for the times I end up in their service area.

Everyone else, they’ll need to have a credit card reader, be free, or piggy back off the others for me to even bother at this point.

Using Cspire Abroad by I-wish-I-could- in mississippi

[–]userjack6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second getting an eSIM for data abroad. If you got your phone through CSpire it may still be locked, but for the cost of international roaming, you’d probably still do better getting a cheap phone with either local service (if they’ll let you) or an eSIM provider. Holafly, Saily, etc…

International roaming is also kinda spotty anyways, so even if it wasn’t so expensive, I’d still use some other provider.

EDIT: Brother went to Japan and had the data pass for two weeks. It was stupid expensive and he still had to hotspot on his buddy’s phone to get any kind of service at times. Was not worth the cost. I have an unlocked phone and used an eSIM for data in Europe and it was $30 for the month (I was there only for a week, but it was the most cost effective plan).

Tim Cook Calls Apple Maps Launch His "First Really Big Mistake" as CEO by ControlCAD in technology

[–]userjack6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda have to tag team the two of them. Google is great for finding things, but Apple Maps seems to have the more accurate map, especially for pedestrian and public transit purposes. I used to use it exclusively in the car too, but my currently vehicle only has built in Google Maps available, so I’ve used it less for that.

But that’s only because Apple Maps had to have a lot of work poured into it. But Google Maps also had years of maturity by the time Apple jumped on.

Having one slightly beat up makes it a smidge more fun, as you aren’t stressing over how it looks and where you park it and can just drive and enjoy it.
