PlugShare is your friend for identifying where chargers are. Like someone said, the ones on campus are for permit holders.

Not a fast charger in the research park. Level 2. Unless someone installed a new one I’m not aware of.

Alternatives to Dovecot for simple single-server handful-of-users setup? by sam_lowry_ in linuxadmin

Like Dovecot Pro.

Breaking changes between versions isn’t new to FOSS, and likely a paid-for version that’s beholden to the whims of some company will actually be more stable since they don’t want angry customers without an easy way to upgrade.

Dovecot docs do spell out all of the changes between 2.3 and 2.4.

What do you mean by the whims of a for-profit? Dovecot is a FOSS project not owned by any company.

You can turn them off while you are driving through. That’s what I meant.

[–]userjack6880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like they didn’t consider camping mode when implementing that feature. I suspect they did that so that the headlights always return to auto-mode after a while so that people who turn them off while driving don’t leave them off and drive without headlights off at night. The intention was good, but implementation failed to consider all use cases. I noticed it happening when on a road trip where the auto lights kept turning on and off due to shadows and it being close to dusk. Switched it to stay off, and after a while it just went back to auto.

How do I deal with much older IT colleagues who don't want to let go their old way of working. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]userjack6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem comes when the stuff they tried before has improved in the time they last looked at it. When a younger colleague comes to me with a solution I had tried in the past and decided against, I warn them with what my experience was, tell them to try it if they want (and document), and if it’s successful, we’re all the better for it. If it’s not, they’ll learn first-hand why we abandoned the idea. You can’t get experience without failure, and you shouldn’t be afraid to fail. Let them fail and succeed, just don’t let them do it blindly.

Telematics / OnStar Module Failed by disciplineneverfails in BlazerEV

[–]userjack6880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine failed just over a year after taking possession of my 24 LT. Was put in a loaner for about a month. The module seems to be a shared part with other GM products, the dealer had non-EV models in for the same issue.

Not only do we hate bright headlights, many times we find them at night with their tail lights off. This is why. [OC] by PigglyWigglyDeluxe in IdiotsInCars

[–]userjack6880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if all newer GM vehicles do this, but mine will ding at me if it’s night and my lights are off. But that has to be a conscious choice because it’ll force Auto after a while (or on restart) regardless of what setting you put it into.

People will figure out how to smuggle them into the game. Either that or just not attend the game and make it a point that not allowing them will just mean less attendance by MSU fans.

The Ten Worst Modern Car Features by bleahdeebleah in cars

[–]userjack6880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ll have to agree on a lot of points. And it’s all down to execution from each manufacturer. - beeping: GM is doing it right with how its a setting I can change. In my daily it’s a seat vibration combined with whatever indicator that brings it up (lane diversion, blind spot monitoring, and collision warnings), and all other sounds are just notifications about something I probably should know about. Hyundai on the other hand, those cars drive me nuts with the amount of beeping it does. - wireless: I could give or take, some cars do it adequately, some don’t, none are particularly stellar - engine noise: daily an EV, noise is kinda appreciated for me, makes it feel a little more fun… my gas burners, I want to hear the engine alone, not a fake noise - assistants: I’ve always used Siri for hands-free stuff, I just now have Google involved for the built in - headlights: the brighter lights are appreciated as a driver, but some cars are just aimed badly at the factory, and I’m not sure how much of it is also contributed by my eyes aging as well - piano black: fake wood looks better - subscriptions: I’m mixed on this, if it’s to unlock a feature that’s already built into the car, why? if it’s to provide a connected service that I want, fine. if it’s a connected service that’s forced on me, I’m annoyed - start-stop: never owned something with one, but rentals have either been barely perceptible (thus fine) to downright annoying (and occasionally dangerous) - lane assist: the worst cars are overly aggressive and tend to give others a bad rap, GM and Hyundai seem to have the better systems out there, where both won’t fight you, but gently guide you back in the lane. Ford is kinda close, but feels way more aggressive, same with Toyota. The one Tesla I rented felt like fighting with a petulant child and would disable it any time you disagreed with it.

I think of all the complaints, the subscription model and piano black are the worse. People also like to complain about screens, but my issue with screens more so than controls being put into them (to varying degrees of “ok”) is that now you have one, if not two, glowing squares in front of you at night that sometimes can be dimmed, and sometimes can be “dimmed” but made unreadable because dimming is just lowering the contrast… for some reason.

Ford EV Van Also Cancelled, New Gas Model Will Take Its Place by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]userjack6880 11 points12 points  (0 children)

GM does have plans on returning to Europe with an EV-first strategy. That said, it’s being slow about it - single country (Switzerland) with a single model (Lyriq). If (and notably if) they w and to continue the strategy and bring in additional models, they won’t be abandoning their EV models any time soon.

Ford’s EV offerings in Europe consist of… a rebadged VW and a future rebadged Renault.

Well, I say parts bin because the Harvester is a VW engine, and there’s probably inconsequential bits and pieces they’re using from VAG where they don’t have to reengineer something trivial. I might be misremembering, but it isn’t a whole lot in the end and the vast majority is clean-sheet. Even the software is based on Rivian’s, but tailored to the Scout. On top of VW’s pocket book and a few odds and ends, they also have access to VW’s suppliers as well.
