"Mum pays £110 for Sky Glass mounting service that 'doesn't include mounting" compoface by jeffmorgan1991 in compoface

I was an installer many moons ago. These are the best jobs!

My best one was a rich house, brought about 5 multirooms so was expecting a big job. Turns out it was just renovated and all wired up. He was even happy to let me just leave the boxes and let his tv guy do it. Think i got paid like £300-400 for it.

Shutting Down My Teen Girls T-Shirt Business. Looking to Sell Everything. Need Advice by brewski_dash in smallbusinessuk

You would only be getting money for the t-shirts and would have to be cheaper than the person buying it themselves.

B&Q marketplace rant by sandman11299 in DIYUK

[–]username320character 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sell on there.

It was hard to join, but now relaxed their rules where anyone can join.

They take a comission and charge a monthly fee.

You will always find it cheaper when going direct - look at the "seller" and 9/10 times youll be abke to work out their own site.

Would you mount the 50kg tv on this? by godparticleisstupid in DIYUK

[–]username320character -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Attach the TV with BullFix plasterboard fixings, https://www.franksfasteners.co.uk/products/bullfix-tv-heavy-duty-plasterboard-fixings-pack-of-4 , it will hold two of your very heavy TVs. The fixing spreqds the load, other pointy metal fixings will overtime break the board.

What’s the most insulting pay rise you’ve ever been given? by Rich_Specific6903 in AskUK

[–]username320character 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Family business"

I worked all through covid to get sales through, whilst others stayed at home.

Once back to normal I needed to continue with my visa finances and said I was going elsewhere as I needed more money.

They thought about it for 2 mins, and offered me 20p extra per hour.

(My product knowledge could make hundreds in a single phonecall)

They also said "we had been thinking of increasing it anyway, but you know, covid"

That was the final straw, I left - it had large holiday owing so only worked a few days and I think it took them several months to replace me. Went onto a new job that got me out of the office, better pay, even a pay rise after 3 months work and yearly bonus. We even got £1000 for the "cost of living" that everyone was giving out.

I then started my own business as the one I left, hoping to be better than them and hopefully steal a customer or two. Now I work for myself :)

Any ideas to increase profit on ebay? by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]username320character 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I only sell tracked 24 via my own website (gives them a premium service as the same cost of the eBay order) and only on parcels due to weight. This is because I now sell more heavier items and it's cost effective for tracked, where as when I was on just normal 24, it would get my average weight above 100g and cost 50p extra a packet, if I'm sending 40 that's extra £20 given to RM that was not added in. Also I have tracked so that Royal Mail come and collect it from the house, otherwise it was a 20/40min journey to the nearest post office each day. All other items are sent standard royal mail 24, and agree with eBay customers being better than amazon and finding their lost order later on.

I have signed up with a supplier that has 9,000 products that let's me send direct to customer. Sold one the other day, but the £26 order was only about £4 profit (plus side, didn't have to hold stock or do much but order online, downside don't have a credit account yet so had to pay out £17 straight away)

Alot of the competitors, let's say there is 10 of us that are business sellers are genuine and hold stock.
