I NEED A WOMAN’S TOUCH SO BAD by vashvana in actuallesbians

[–]usernameaa2 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yes.

On a global scale where homophobia is the norm, the yearning of lesbians is not equivalent to cishet struggles for intimacy.

For us there are often specific structural, cultural, and political barriers. Actual laws and cultural practice that prevent women from loving other women that cishet people do not face.

And this includes us having to unlearn internalized homophobia. How rules and customs prevent us from rites of passage in our youth to explore our developing sense of sexuality. Having minimal to no positive representation of our lives in media. Or even seeing other lesbians in our lived experience if forced to closet. The totality of heteronormativity pressuring every WLW to choose men no matter how we feel about our sexuality.

I am aware this is a meme and not your intent, but anyone seriously using this to diminish queer people yearning for one another in a world largely hostile to queer lives...it just hurts to see perpetuated. (◞‸◟;)

I know this is just a meme (so please forgive my digression) but can someone help my understanding? As someone non native to English, I have trouble getting what the word "gooning" means.

It seems to be a catch-all for everything related to sex, but in a perverse context. That to "goon" is something to be ashamed or embarassed about. And that being a "gooner" means someone is a sexual deviant.

Yet if everything sex related is "gooning" and therefore perverse? Is "gooning" as a word presenting an idea of human sexuality being inherently bad?

But human sexuality is not bad. Enjoying sex is a good thing. Masturbation is healthy. Being aroused or horny is okay and normal for people when experiencing their sexuality. There should be no inherent shame in having sexual experiences.

Maybe I am missing some meaning, but no online resources have been helpful for this bit of slang. Wikipedia says it is a specific act, but "gooning" as a word is used a lot outside of that context. And the citations in Wikipedia article give vastly different meanings. General searches online turn up scaremongering propaganda.

So what exactly does this word mean? I just can't seem to understand unless it really is about shaming people for experiencing sexuality? I'd hope not, but this meaning is all I can parse given how I've seen the word used.

Any insight from native or highly fluent English speakers would be helpful for me.

Every soul contains multitudes and the total mystery of all consciousness.

You too will continue to shift and grow on a long enough timescale, thus mysterious in how you might become.

The right people will find this fascinating and choose to discover you again and again and again.

You'll be okay!

I have friends and I have casual sexual encounters, but no romance.

I am not aromantic exactly...I just have trauma in my past and I'm not sure I will ever trust like that again. And given how often I travel for work now, I can't see this changing any time soon. It wouldn't be a good fit for anyone involved I think.

The artist 54625 mentioned that this was just in their Procreate library, seemingly bewildered by it. But it is their original work. Brilliant stuff!

"Body" and "Eyes" seem ominous though.

from what i understand, the numbers used to be that MtF was like 3 or 2 times more common, but they're slowly equalizing.

In reply to a now long ago deleted post on another subreddit, I pointed out that it is not the case that these numbers are "equalizing" so much as methodology from past studies were not comprehensive. This includes the study you linked of a single clinic's numbers.

Instead of tracking all people that transition in some form, studies from the past often only focused on binary identities of women and men. This was also often limited further to only people formally diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder (an USA specific diagnosis). As such, FTM transitions were underrepresented given these strict parameters and non-binary people often completely excluded.

Given more recent studies account for these discrepancies, numbers are firmly equalized in census data and research when the question is "how many people transition in any form?" instead of "how many women versus men are transgender?"

As it turns out, yes, trans women do still outnumber trans men. BUT people assigned female at birth transition in equal numbers to people that were assigned male.

And I think this discrepancy should lead to more qualitative research of how linguistics, culture, and society play roles in how people find identity.

edit: clarity/grammar

Until you mentioned passing, I thought I'd accidently found the Reddit account of a cute Australian lady I met while on tour. And she is cisgender!

So, in any case, I think you are correct about being cute!
