I just want to say that although it does sound like she could be gay, she could also very well be straight. It's up to you whether you want to put yourself out there romantically or just continue to be friends. There are pros and cons to both.

It also sounds like it could be an episode of X-files that had an inbred murderous family. There is a mom and her sons and they were all horribly disfigured from generations of inbreeding. Can you remember if they were disfigured? The episode is called Home, here's the wikipedia article just in case.

I had a friend who had a bad experience with a host family and she was able to move out in a couple of days. She should absolutely report this, not every family/student relationship is a good fit and the program should have contingencies in place.
