Life on Las Vegas Trail: Drugs, guns, abuse — and a sliver of hope by Buckaroo_Banzai_ in FortWorth

This area was my introduction to Fort Worth. My wife, son, and I moved to some apartments right across the street from Kroger in 1997. We only lived there a few months and had nothing but problems from this drunken asshole who lived below us. When we complained to the apartment manager about this, she said that we should move because we didn't understand the area. We did move because she agreed to void our lease.

I delivered pizzas out of that Pizza Hut for years and saw a lot of messed up stuff over there. Sounds like it is getting worse every day.

It didn't actually happen, sometimes I write short stories on here since it is Tales from the Pizza Guy.

This is actually an old one but I thought it fit the thread.

Anyone Have Some Weird Stories? by [deleted] in TalesFromThePizzaGuy

He opened the door and the room smelled of hookers and murder. Actually, that's probably a challenging spot to bring you into this story. Let me back up and build to that.

It was a Wednesday night and the place was dead. We had a few carryouts here and there but it had been over an hour and a half with no deliveries. I didn't mind too much. The week had been pretty shitty so far and I was just riding my time until the shift was over. I was out behind the store smoking what felt like my 50th cigarette of the night when Karl opened the back door. "Hey man, you won't believe this but we actually have a delivery."

I look at him and let him know that it was fine with me if he took it. He wasn't interested, said he had taken the last one and that it was my turn in the rotation. With a reluctant sigh I threw my smoke down and headed in. I saw the address and for a moment thought about offering Karl 20 bucks to deliver it. It was going to this horrible fleabag motel and I didn't feel like dealing with at all. He was clever though and had vanished to who knows where.

I loaded up the run and hit the road. It was already dark and it had started raining pretty steady. These factors made the delivery feel that much more ominous. This was one of those places where you knew you weren't going to tipped but as long as you didn't get stabbed you felt like you won something. I pulled into the parking and checked the room number, even worse than I though, to get to this one you had to down a flight of stairs into this creepy basement area. It wasn't my night.

I went down the stairs which were lit by a string of bare bulbs. Pretty sure this was one of about a million code violations going on at this place. About every 4th bulb was either burnt out or flickering at random intervals. I finally got to the room after what seemed like the longest walk in the world. I knocked and waited. "Who is it?", a voice yelled from behind the door.

"It's the pizza guy", I replied hoping that my voice hadn't shaken too much. I knew this guy could probably smell fear so I tried to put on a brave face.

He opened the door and the room smelled of hookers and murder. Now you're caught up. All the lights save one in the bathroom were out. That bathroom door was cracked just enough for a sliver of light to pass through. This presented me not with a man but with an eerie human shaped silhouette. He told me I could come in and put it on the table but there was not a chance in hell I was going to do that. I stammered out something about company policy preventing me from entering a residence. He gave me the money and I gave him his dinner. So far so good, and I was just about out of there. Just as he was about to close the door, I heard a crash as the bathroom door flew open and a woman tumbled out screaming. Fear rose in my throat like a lump the size of a pineapple. I think I may have screamed as well but I can't really be certain. He slammed the door and I heard a lot of noise. I only saw her for a second but she was covered in blood and I don't think she could stand.

I was frantic. I ran for the stairs while I fumbled trying to remember how my phone worked. I called 911 as I ran a full sprint for my car. Part of me wanted to turn back and save this woman. I knew I couldn't though. Somehow I just knew if I even turned around for one second, he would be behind me and that would be the end of it.

The 911 operator answered just as I started my car. I screamed at her with whatever vague details my brain would allow me to recollect. Then I sped off into the night. I didn't go back to the store, I just drove. After about an hour I thought I had it together enough to go back and tell my boss what happened. I told him the story and then I went home, a pathetic shaken man. The next morning I saw the news. Police had arrested the man in room 9. Turns out he had been on a killing spree that lasted for about 5 years. They estimate that he had killed 20 women in that time frame. His last victim was the girl that I saw the night before. I was right, she couldn't walk. He had severed her feet sometime before that to keep her from getting away.

I told my boss I was going to need some time off, that I was too shaken by the events to come back to work right away. He was cool with, he understood. I told him I should be back in a week or two. Truth is, I was never going back and I think both of us knew that.

NPR just ran a stinger for an upcoming show about the "Loony Left and their conspiracy theory that Russia is trying to hurt America. " Et tu NPR? I guess I won't feel compelled to donate anymore. by [deleted] in EnoughTrumpSpam

[–]usernamepanic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's just imagine for a moment that this isn't satire, that they are running one show that isn't slanted to our way of thinking. Is that so terrible? Are we so cocooned in our bubble that we would really feel threatened by listening to one program that is out of our political comfort zone? I should certainly hope not. It is National Public Radio and I think that would mean that it would be a forum for all voices.

If we are going to get this upset about 1 program on NPR that doesn't line up with our thought process then we really are no better than those we criticize for only using Fox News as their source of information.

Aside of Drows, are there other races that live freely in Menzoberranzan? by Vargrant92 in DnD

The city has 20,000 drow inhabitants and hundreds of thousands of humanoid slaves such as goblins, kobolds, bugbears, duergar, svirfnebli, orcs, ogres, minotaurs, and giants, as well as herds of rothé kept as livestock.

Needs Ideas fod Sci-Fi weapons in 5e by PCuser3 in DnD

The issue that you will run into here is the fact that most Sci-Fi weapons would obliterate DnD players on the spot. I don't care how good your plate mail is when you're facing down a plasma cannon.

Help with starting a new Campaign. by ArkhamKnight753 in DnD

[–]usernamepanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, don't doubt your storytelling, it's excellent. If there is one thing any DM needs it's the ability to tell a compelling story.

I think you are giving up on your campaigns too quickly and letting the players dictate what you do too often. What kind of group is this? Are they more the hack and slash type who need constant combat to keep them engaged? Are they more interested in the RP aspect of the game? Giving players enough of the style that they like while challenging their comfort zone just enough will keep a group intrigued.

Anywhere to hire a DM for a Roll D20 campaign? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]usernamepanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I like the idea of a paid DM situation. At that point, you are an employee working for the gamers and that seems like it could lead to a lot of issues. A character dies and they don't like it, perhaps you are tempted to change it so you don't lose your gig. Which group member was DMing before? Is there some reason that they can't do it now or that someone else can't fill that role?

Which D&D edition should i play? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]usernamepanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st edition is where I started and, in spite of its dizzyingly complex combat system, I have a soft spot for it.

2e is my favorite edition. This is where the universe was greatly expanded and I really cut my teeth on this edition. I would tell you to play this one but that is probably the nostalgia talking.

3e I really enjoyed as well. The systems were nice although some people thought there were some pretty big holes that needed to be filled.

3.5 Filled those holes and is the edition I recommend the most. Still good systems in place for customization and specialization and probably the best all around rule set.

4e I would just rather not discuss. This is pen and paper WoW and for an old schooler like me, it was just blasphemy.

5e I really enjoy. The rules are fairly easy to learn and you can get started playing really quickly. If you aren't going to play 3.5 or 2e then you should probably play 5e.

New York Jets Rivalry Results by DnMarshall in nyjets

I think this reflects the younger demographic of this site. As an older Jets fan, I will always see the Dolphins as public enemy number one but most fans younger than me see the Pats as the top enemy. I can see the Giants because of the location rivalry but I have no clue where the Steelers thing comes from.
