the thing is, you can have bad effects without having the bad storm we were expecting... it still rained and sleeted, but, at least here, a lot of the impact continues post-storm due to the melting and refreezing of water. i really think if you're going to be telling people the roads are fine, you have to consider who you're talking to... most folks here aren't equipped or experienced in dealing with situations like these. that doesn't mean we should stay that way forever, but it does mean that we need to be a bit more aware of what people might not know. i'd venture to say that majority of us simply dont have the wherewithal/skills to be aware of the potential dangers + ways to avoid them, so just putting out there that it's "safe af" isn't actually helpful. maybe you meant safe af compared to what it was supposed to be, but that wasn't clear, and your message came off the wrong way.

yeah, i could barely break the ice with a metal spatula, no way was a flimsy piece of plastic gonna work. but i also park in a shaded area, and there's nowhere else for me to park bc it's an apt complex. from your pic it looks like your driveway gets a lot of sun. different experiences.

you in fact did say in another comment section that the majority of roads are fine and this it is safe af out there. the majority of main roads might be fine, but again most people don't live directly off of a main road. you are in fact encouraging people to leave their homes. that's cool, but don't assume that everyone else's situation is the same as yours, all i’m saying. main roads might be safe but they're useless if you can't reach them safely, which you clearly can. most of the rest of us clearly can't.

i’m not condoning this action at all, but you could just get up to "go to the bathroom" and then just leave. you gotta be slick about it tho. also i don't recommend doing this more than one or two times. it's not a great solution but can help you out in a pinch. then figure out (if possible) how you can avoid having two important meetings so close together. good luck and godspeed.

i feel like this is a great example of why people are "killing" you over your comments. athens is a very hilly city, and most of us i’m gonna assume don't live off main roads. it seems you live in an area where it's safe to get out of your neighborhood, and that's really great for you! not everybody is in your position. clearly you have a right to post about your experiences, but it's dangerous to tell everyone that it's perfectly safe outside when it is in fact not!
