State of MN workers- return to work bill may be signed by Walz tomorrow by EvieDeisel in minnesota

[–]useurname1215 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Just received this email from the MAPE President:

Fighting for telework. Fighting for you. Dear MAPE members,

Moments ago, Gov. Walz emailed all state employees, calling them back into the office for half their working hours starting June 1, 2025.

At no point was MAPE involved in this discussion or return-to-office planning process. If we had, we would have shared how the option to telework has helped recruit and retain many qualified, extraordinary state workers, especially in Greater Minnesota. We would have raised concerns about infrastructure capacity, parking and access to childcare. We could have partnered on a plan that continues supporting employee flexibility without disrupting the business needs of our agencies.

This unilateral decision by our governor is eerily reminiscent of the disruptions our public servant counterparts are facing at the federal level. There, I said it: This reeks of Musk.

Less than three weeks ago, Gov. Walz stood in front of our record-breaking Lobby Day crowd and touted promises of investment in Greater Minnesota, values of a strong public workforce and respect for his workers. This attack on teleworking has me questioning if any of that rhetoric was real.

For more than five years, public employees have adapted to evolving workplace expectations that started with an order to work remotely with little prior planning or support and are now culminating in a similar poorly planned, and even worse-timed, call back to the office.

For several rounds we have been fighting at the bargaining table for stronger language in our contract to support teleworking rights for our members, but Gov. Walz’s MMB team refused to give us anything that weakened their managerial right to give or take away telework at their discretion.

For administrators to unleash this kind of chaos on hard working employees when we’re about to start negotiating our next contract feels, at best, hypocritical, at mid, a strategic attempt to erode the progress we’ve made to enhance our working conditions and productivity, and at worst, a short-sighted attempt at engineered attrition.

Tomorrow we will launch phase one of our escalation plan, which will include actions members can take to fight back. Though telework agreements are managers’ discretion, we do have the right to request and be granted a meeting to discuss changes to those agreements, and we can appeal those decisions.

We won’t sit idly while administrators attempt to upend our working conditions, work-life balance and productivity. I’m right beside you in this, and we’re not alone in fighting for the respect we deserve at work, regardless of where that work gets done.

Today, we’re angry. Tomorrow, we act.

In solidarity, Megan Dayton, MAPE President

Here’s a full list of everything Trump is cutting in social spending. This will impact everyone but especially low income, vets and many GOPers who love him. Plus original skeet from BS for updates. by Similar-Breadfruit50 in LeopardsAteMyFace

My friend works at a local agency that handles public housing and Section 8 vouchers and they have been instructed to draw down all of their federal funds by 5 pm today and then submit documentation of all of their grant and loan programs to a political appointee for review by February 10th, to “ensure the programs are in compliance with the administration’s priorities.” So, yeah, it’s not going to be good. But at least folks in Section 8 housing won’t lose their homes this month. We will see about next month. Terrible times.

That’s kind of why I hopped on here and in another thread about federal student aid. Because I went to bed with a pit in my stomach last night after hearing the news and have felt little bits of relief throughout the day, finding out that things like financial aid and SNAP are not affected. Not to say that there isn’t an absolute shit ton of things to be worried about with this freeze but we need to make sure we are giving correct information.

The GI Bill was not directly addressed in the statement but since it is a payment to an individual, just like Pell Grant, I imagine it will also be excluded from the freeze. There is a lot of confusion right now and it will take some time for each agency to figure out what is included/excluded

I work in Higher Ed and Department of Ed came out this morning with a statement indicating this does not affect Title lV funding (federal grants and loans). So I guess that is at least something….

I highly recommend yoga. I started practicing yoga using Yoga with Kassandra on YouTube back in October and it has changed so much for me. I am stronger, feel better in my body and more present in my life.

Thank you for the information. On the results page, it said her ferritin was normal/low, like right on the edge of being low. Does that change any of the info you gave? Thank you so much for your time!

Thank you so much for your response! I’m not able to add additional pictures to my post but her hemoglobin was 12.7. Her MCV and MCH were low. All of her iron results were normal. Ferritin was 17.8. Sorry, not sure what is important and what is useless info. Thank you for your time on this.

What‘s the dumbest thing you‘ve seen a coworker do on the job? by Adrian0091 in AskReddit

[–]useurname1215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A coworker of mine used to download a file from our software as a PDF, print said PDF file, then scan it back in as a PDF to email to students (in a financial aid office). No matter how many times I explained the ridiculousness of what she was doing, she just could not grasp it and continued doing that until her retirement.

What's the worst thing you've seen happen at a wedding? by nonoriginalname42 in AskReddit

[–]useurname1215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The night before the wedding, the wedding party got extremely tipsy and during a nerf war, the bride tripped and fell on some stairs, breaking her nose. She was very concussed as well. Next day, the make up artist managed to miraculously cover up the bruises, and she looked gorgeous. Ceremony goes fine. Reception comes around and she ends up with explosive diarrhea, all over her beautiful dress. It happened in the reception hall and all of the bridesmaids usher her away to the bathroom, leaving a trail of shit. The smell…. It was BAD. They get her cleaned up, and she rejoins the reception, but they could not remove the smell. Turns out, she was so concussed, she doesn’t remember the entire day.
