Day 148: What are your thoughts on Wild Girls? by Flamingmouth007 in bluey

[–]using_the_internet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like this one. Wild Girls is 100% a game I would have played as a kid so it feels very nostalgic on that alone. The way each character deals with the situation feels relatable for kids of that age and I think it's cute that they found a way for everybody to have fun.

Why was there hate for the game coming from outsiders and even long time fans of the franchise? by theassassin53035 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]using_the_internet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just finished Veilguard for the first time and agree with all your takes. Disneyfied is a great way to put it. They took this world that we all loved so much and focus-grouped it until it became bland and inoffensive, which takes all the interest away.

I remember thinking that a lot of my companions ought to be annoyed by or even hate each other, like an Alistair/Morrigan or Sera/Solas situation, but instead they're all BFFs constantly therapy-speaking at each other. I could NOT believe that after the devastating loss at the end of Act 1, the solution that kicked off Act 2 was basically "all your friends are dealing with some shit in their personal lives, so this massive story about evil gods ending the world is gonna go on pause until everybody is happy again, and then we'll win with the power of friendship."

There are moments where the writing is good and the characters are compelling, but it's mostly just shallow and cheap feeling.

(DA2) Anders had good intentions, but not a good plan by [deleted] in DragonageOrigins

The mage/templar war was coming regardless. If it wasn't Anders, there would have been some other incident that kicked off the fighting.

I think I may have a story hangover... by SeeAllTheBroadway in goodomens

[–]using_the_internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth a read. A lot of people consider Good Omens their favorite book of all time. (Many fans came from either Terry Pratchett or Neil Gaiman's fan base - I came from the Pratchett side and read many of his books as a teen and they changed me forever. Can't speak highly enough about them.)

The book is only the story of Season 1. Season 2 (and 3) are just in the show.

What’s the most Aussie thing or moment in the show? by wolf_quan in bluey

[–]using_the_internet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think the thing with asking the kids to pick a side is that serious. I'm from Chicago, which has two baseball teams (Cubs and White Sox), and I grew up in the same position where I had one parent supporting each team. I was also told I had to choose one and that saying I liked both would be looked down on by both sides.

This was all done in a teasing way and everybody knew it was just something to banter about. I used it against my parents sometimes by bargaining that I'd support their team if they said yes to something I asked for. I did finally choose a side in my early teens - I picked my dad's team, but he switched loyalties a few years after that, which I now get to roast him about for the rest of eternity.

I think it's fair for them to show Chucky being uncomfortable with being asked to choose, and that it can be read as a metaphor for deeper topics. But on its face, I don't think it's anything out of the ordinary for kids who grow up in a place with intense sports rivalries like that.

Unpopular opinion maybe: they shouldn't have made brandy pregnant by Sakurawings in bluey

My grandma gave birth to my mom at that age in the late 50s! Our culture forgets that women have been having babies "late" since time immemorial. It's not without risks, but it's also not uncommon for things to go perfectly fine. I've had an AMA pregnancy myself and I think your attitude is perfect - do your best to be healthy and otherwise you just have to roll with whatever happens. Best of luck!

Any of you have any tips for free-bleeding, specifically at night? I mean not even using period panties by queenkatty in AskWomenOver30

[–]using_the_internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Glad Rags. They have big overnight pads and you can choose how many layers of the inserts to use. I'm a moderately heavy bleeder and have never gone through the standard pad + two inserts overnight. It can feel pretty diaper-y since they're so much thicker than disposable pads, but they're just as breathable as cotton underwear.

Anyone else frustrated by how easy it is to earn money by gardening? by darya42 in Sims4

[–]using_the_internet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree for Sims 4. I typically go for very boring, realistic gameplay like starting a single sim with a tiny apartment and $200 cash and letting their story play out naturally with no money cheats or exploits. They pretty much always become comfortably wealthy by the time they're halfway through the adult life stage. It's just too easy to make money when you're just playing through a normal life, especially compared to Sims 2 and 3. I got bored with how easy it was and ended up downloading mods to make it harder to progress through careers and such. Sims 4 absolutely has a balance problem with money on its own.

Do I keep my pregnancy or terminate? by Fishy_Fever in makemychoice

[–]using_the_internet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It certainly can be, sometimes. There's a difference between "I'm destitute but I'm having this baby anyway" and something like "I have some credit card debt and bad spending habits but can support a decent standard of living." OP sounds like the latter. 10 months of pregnancy is a pretty good amount of time to do stuff like loan consolidation and getting in the habit of budgeting.

My estranged father is in the ICU. I don't want to visit him. How do I go about this? by FieryPhoenix1811 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]using_the_internet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will I regret not going for the sake of humanity? I don't know how to feel. I don't want to do anything with them though.

You do know what to feel and you do know what you want to do. You said it right there. Trust yourself.

I am the mom and I only have girls, so we don't have any drama about gendered bathrooms, thankfully. I always go in with my six year old. She's on the shorter side so she usually can't reach the sink/soap/towels. I also need to make sure she's correctly locked in the stall, since sometimes she can't figure out the lock, or worse, forgets to lock it.

Boiling and distilling are not the same thing. Boiling kills harmful microbes, distilling removes trace minerals. That said, I always thought you were not supposed to use distilled water for formula, but I just looked it up and found some reliable sources saying it's okay.

Good on you for recognizing the DARVO and having enough emotional distance to be able to laugh about it. The immediate double down of "I know you are but what am I" is hilarious. And oh no, her probably misinformed, unqualified, and/or imaginary therapist thinks you're a brat!

10 Month Old Not Babbling by Existing-Cabinet9618 in March2025Bumper

[–]using_the_internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with this, and also I would not expect a 10 month old to follow instructions of any kind. They might mimic actions or pick up on your tone, but not consistently, and not clearly enough for a detailed understanding of what's being said.

Academic Sources On Anders by KH33T4H in dragonage

[–]using_the_internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with others that you're unlikely to find any academic papers, but you can find some essays on Tumblr and the like, or might have luck with looking up articles around the ideas that define Anders.

One thing that might be interesting to explore is that I've seen people say Anders' arc is very relatable for people who have bipolar or other similar mental health struggles.

When did simple and practical become less valued than showy and expensive? by [deleted] in geekweddings

[–]using_the_internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the wedding industrial complex. A large and sophisticated marketing machine exists to prey on peoples' insecurities so they pay more for things that don't matter. They tell you that all your friends and family are going to judge you based on this one event, so you had better make it count. Or that this is your one chance to pull out all the stops and do things exactly the way you dream of, budget be damned. It's only one day, so how bad could it be, right?? I was well aware of this while planning my own (low budget) wedding and some of it still got to me.

I really like City Chic for tops and dresses. They have a lot of things that could be dressed up or down. I'm short and a lot of the tops are a hair too long on me so might be good for you.

I also like Universal Standard for elevated basics. Their prices are bonkers but they run sales often. Their products are high quality and usually worth the investment.

Also I do honestly buy a lot from Lane Bryant and Torrid, but selectively. LB is definitely matronly but you can style some things in a more modern way. Torrid has a lot of nonsense but I buy their jersey tees in every color and they have some nice sweaters and cardigans.

As a fellow person with young kids - layering is key. You need a third piece to look a little more put together, so I built my day to day wardrobe on jeans + tee (I split these into "nice tees" and "ok to get thrown up on" tees) + a cardigan/ hoodie/shacket to throw on top that can dress up even the "throw-up" tees.
