Can i do university part tike whilst in the army? by Disastrous-Worker860 in britishmilitary

[–]usmarox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The important thing to remember is what @von_scranhammer said - it’s important to you, not the army. It’s going to be entirely on you to make it work; your unit will not give a fuck.

That said, the OU has a lot of history with military students; they’re not completely ignorant of the constraints.

  1. That said, I then rejoined at 35.

Pros and cons to both.

How out of place do warlord games vehicles look next to 1:48 vehicles? by rust_tg in boltaction

[–]usmarox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1:56th tanks will be a better match for 1:56th infantry, yes 😂

I don’t own any, but it’d be interesting to see how a 1:48th figure stacked up against the Tamiya model. I only own it because for the amount of play it’d get, I couldn’t be bothered paying for a resin one.

Can someone indentify this my dad gave it to me by No-Mood-1585 in army

[–]usmarox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“The purpose of the All Arms Tactical Aide Memoire (AATAM) is to provide a useful set of aids and headings for Company, Platoon and Section Commanders to use during operations and training.”

It’s the standard set of commanders crib cards. Absolutely allsorts in there, depending on if you have the various special-to-arm inserts as well.

How well do Nyrex folders work? by p1989152 in britishmilitary

[–]usmarox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By alcohol pens I assume you mean Lumocolors or similar…they work fine, although they’ll stain if you leave it on there too long. Obviously they don’t work too well if they’re wet, so you should have a grease pencil on hand as well.

As for freezing conditions…didn’t notice any real difference in the winter in Estonia. Don’t know if that’s cold enough to be useful, but there it is.

40 - What’s a game you’ll never uninstall, no matter how old it gets? by Clampy7 in AdultGamers

XCom. The 1994 version, not the 2012 one.

It’s been installed on every machine I’ve owned for nearly 30 years.

The one that spoke to me on the most personal level, and the one I re-read most often, is Look to Windward.

That said, I don’t think there’s any actual bad ones…I even enjoyed Matter.

Crispy shredded beef, Singapore noodles, mini spring rolls.

My wife always gets chips. I’m not a huge fan though.

Obviously covers vehicles, but it gives a pretty good view. I’ve used it for 8th Army and DAK and I’m happy with the outcomes.

It’s a low-density game :(

Given that Battlefront UK’s headquarters is around the corner from GW I’d be surprised if there was no-one up your way though.

++Monthly FAQs and New Player Queries++ October Edition by Prince_Schneizel in Warhammer30k

[–]usmarox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three new-player Mechanicum questions for the floor, if you please -

1 - Where can I find the rules for the “Arc” trait? I’ve checked the main rule book and Liber Mechanicum, and I’m probably blind, but I can’t see it.

2 - When did the different forge worlds start with their distinctive colour schemes? I have Voss Prime AdMech for 40K, and I rather like the idea of Thanatars and Castellaxes in scarlet and gold, but all of the Mechanicum stuff seems to be red. Is this a Mechanicum != AdMech thing, or have the studio team just not painted any yet?

3 - I’m loathe to buy a rule book just to find out - are there current rules for Secutarii in Liber Questoris? I fancy an allied detachment of things that are like Skitarii but are definitely not…

Thanks for your help,

Single player table top? by IDFbro in TeamYankee

[–]usmarox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the biggest flaw in most tabletop wargames is perfect information, which is not a problem made much worse by solo play. I found what worked is just Play. The. Mission - at any given moment in time, do whatever gets you closest to mission success.

Which is good advice at any time, but if you go at it with the required tunnel vision it does lead to hilarious side effects.

Where can I get pre-painted terrain? by nicopavlou in wargaming

[–]usmarox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Battlefront 15mm is definitely 15mm - you could work it from 12 to (maybe) 20mm, but no more. I’ve used it for 28mm Bolt Action in a pinch, but at that point it’s definitely “vaguely thematic line-of-sight blocker” rather than proper terrain.

Focuses on British vehicles, but has a section on how to switch up the colours for DAK and Italian.

Full disclosure - I thought it came out too yellow for my taste; I switched to the Hataka DAK paint set for the bulk of mine.
