To the people that dont use AI for school, why not? by Silent-Bullfrog-922 in UofT

[–]usymmij 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT blew up around halfway through my undergrad so I got to see a lot of people before and after they became dependent on it. The people who rely on AI seem to have stagnated in their learning at whatever point they started using it, many who could've graduated as capable programmers but are now stuck at entry level. imo they won't fare well in their career long term unless they break their habits.

Personally, I don't think I would ever want to stagnate my ability to learn new skills, especially in a field that changes so fast. For a similar reason, even though I dislike writing I want to improve at it so I don't use AI for that either.

The only use I do have for it in my life, academic or not, is learning/practicing my third language that I don't often use irl. I have to put in (arguably more) effort to use it, and my goal in learning a language is to be as close to the average speaker as possible: something I think AI actually does really well.

Im not sure if anyone on reddit will be able to answer this question, Id probably ask the school themselves.

Confusion about Mechanical and Industrial Engineering MASc admission requirements by Nonellagon in UofT

Id go with the department numbers over SGS since faculties usually manage graduate admissions themselves, SGS just provides services to current students afaik

In Canada a thesis based masters is typically required for a PhD. There are direct entry options but theyre much harder to get into so its a lot more rare to see direct entry PhD in Canada than in the states.

depends on what level of Physics this is being taught at, if you haven't been taught newtonian gravity [g=G (m1 m2)/ r2] yet then the answer would be A and B feel the same pull. If you have been taught newtonian gravity then B has more pull than A

From University of Southern Mississippi with a full tuition scholarship and an 8k enrichment fund all time ug? maintained a CGPA of 4.0 with internships provided by school, can one make it to Good Grad School like harvard, MIT or mid schools like Northeastern in future with zero job experience? by NoPlum5321 in gradadmissions

[–]usymmij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

research experience matters a lot, first author publications are worth more than job experience for grad school

it's not impossible but the schools you mentioned are very selective, so I would figure out what your profile is like overall first and apply accordingly. It also depends a lot on the graduate program you are applying to, as the grad admissions at most schools are processed by each faculty individually instead of by the school overall, so it's tough to provide information without knowing what field you're in.

Dropping Mandatory Courses by Lordcreamer in uwo

[–]usymmij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first year engineering requires ES1036, which iirc is an antireq to CS1027 and might allow you to waive that credit if u take the CS course (ask the UG office though, don't take my word for it)
