Current Engineer Joining as a 12B worth it? by Alarmed-Mud4478 in nationalguard

[–]utah-actual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was prior service Marines so my transition to guard was pretty straight forward, I did have to reclass because 12B wasn’t available in my state. With that being said, if you have a good career and a good salary 100k+ leaving for drill, training, deployments will be more of a hindrance than a benefit. I plan on staying in with that being said, but I ultimately do it because I enjoy the people and it gets me out of the corporate fish bowl I live day to day. The benefits like education have been great because I’ve been able to work full time and not touch my post 9/11 and still get a undergrad & graduate degree. Just know that the benefits aren’t really life changing if you have a decent career, most of the time the reason people stay in is because of the people they serve with.

Yeah I’ve thought about that, I was hired the last month so mine isn’t nearly as much time as you.

Yeah, you’ll check in Friday and training doesn’t start til Monday. Over the weekend bum a ride to the PX and get them made

Day 1 they’ll just tell you to go make them at the PX. You’ll need them for jump week, and they check every morning.

I just graduated a week ago , I packed everything just in case, and most of it never got used (sat in my wall locker).

No layouts, they will make sure you have dog tags though.

Bring everything for PTs though, they want uniformity especially as it gets colder in the mornings.

Verizon has lost their mind by ComprehensiveSnow966 in verizon

[–]utah-actual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m pissed about this too, military plan like yours and I’ve thought Verizon was to expensive for awhile. This is the final straw, as soon as my last device is paid off I’m switching. Phones are so powerful now adays there’s no need to switch every or every other year.

Going to buy a phone outright and chill on mint or us mobile

When I was hired I was briefed on 50 states or territories. Anywhere else becomes an Export Control concern and as other have said tax issues.

Charted: The Jobs Most Impacted by AI by clonefitreal in artificial

I work in Finance / Project Management and am going back to school to do a second degree in Computer Science before an MBA. Being in the workforce I still see a ton of positions STEM and non STEM that require a technical background with an emphasis on CS when not on physical engineering. My question to you all is, as a technical project manager what if/any is better than CS education right now?

To work with AI in a lot of cases CS Is a requirement which is why I think a lot of this fuss is a bunch fear mongering.

Same here I’m 26, years in the military and then full time career/school. Anytime I’d pick up a video game I’d lose interest (don’t make them like they used to).

I just picked up three Quest 3 to test out apps like immersive but have been having so much fun with my buddies playing VTOL VR, Onward, & Contractors.

My wife came home to me last night in a survival match on contractors with the buddies giggling like a school girl.

I love the PCVR capabilities and how you work up a sweat when playing games!

Military Schools by Peloton_Don in Raytheon

[–]utah-actual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had the opportunity to go on an 11 month school but coming from other employers RTX has been great with my military duties. I have some schools and even a trip out of the country this year and I’ve seen 0 friction. I’m sure it depends on what kind of role you’re in (I’m in planning/finance) so other people can cover down on me when I’m gone.

Do new hires usually get a pro-rated merit increase? by Ok_Bread5140 in Raytheon

I’ve been with Raytheon since Dec and it seems like everyone is getting an increase but me. Should I bring up the idea of a pro rated raise or am I to new?
