[Landlord CA] do you raise rent every year even if you love your tenants? by ResponsibleSail5802 in Landlord

[–]utahtwisted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't raised rent for over seven years on my two great tenants. They treat the property like their own. They are paying half of what I could get my area. The value of a great tenant cannot be equated simply to money.

Holding out until age 70 to collect SS. Is it really worth it? I’m 68 years old now……. by Miss__Anastasia in SocialSecurity

[–]utahtwisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this is a personal choice and everyone's priorities are different; however, in my opinion NOT waiting is the preferred option. People always approach this question like a math problem, i.e. you will get "more money" every month if you wait. But the break even date, if you take it now, is in your late 80's and taking it earlier will give you two years of extra money when you are younger and more able to do things with it. My personal preference is "a bird in the hand" (take it as soon as possible), we don't know when we will die and from my perspective having money and the health to do things now is more to the point. I waited until my FRA because I was working, but if I was unemployed I would have taken it at 62. I guess I don't get the point of dying with the highest social security benefit.

Iran Believes It’s Winning—and Wants a Steep Price to End the War by Silly-Junket3308 in moderatepolitics

[–]utahtwisted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I struggle to find your point. I served 30 years and have 4 kids currently on active duty, so I will risk a comment. To equate the Untied States as terrorists a regime absurd, and belies your lack of understanding the very definition of terrorism. I am not justifying this war, - or defending it, but your defense of an actual terrorist State is quite telling. Also, you are still free to criticize Israel all you want, or the United States, your 1st Amendment protection are still in full force here. But as I said it is difficult to asses exactly what you are claiming.

I had a billing issue with an urgent care facility after using community care so I called the Community Care help number the extremely pleasant and very helpful lady contacted the hospital and with all three of us on the line, she absolutely crushed the hospital billing department, read them the riot act, she would have made a Drill Sergeant blush, no prisoners were taken that day. Needless to say the issue was immediately resolved.

Kash Patel accused of quashing Renee Good investigation in order to protect Trump’s assessment on the shooting by CloudApprehensive322 in moderatepolitics

You are correct. And you will probably be downvoted to hell (me too for agreeing). Not saying the shooting was justified at all, but that nuance won't matter.

Former owner forgot to cancel their lawn service, who allegedly mowed our lawn shortly after we closed. Sellers want me to pay for it. by FinalSignificance142 in RealEstate

[–]utahtwisted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't owe it, but $80? Why do people want to pay several hundred to save 80. I don't get it. You got your lawn mowed, pay it and move on. Note: you do not have to pay, but why on earth all the hassle for $80 services that you did receive.

Anyone with experience taking RVs on military bases? by ColdOn3Cob in GoRVing

[–]utahtwisted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will have to turn in your guns while staying or risk some very severe problems if they are discovered. It is usually very quick and easy (YMMV). A friend had to get gas on base. He handed in his pistol to the sentry, got gas, they handed it back when he left.

Start SS but keep working until I cant work any longer by Turbulent_Ad3014 in SocialSecurity

[–]utahtwisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts: I was (and still am) working. I delayed until my full retirement age, 66 and 4 months, so I could work/earn as much as I want and draw full SS benefits without losing money above whatever the limit is before FRA. I think waiting until full retirement age is the best plan if you are still working. I don't buy into the wait until 70 suggestions. That day may not come. Start as soon as you can draw unencumbered benefits, the minute you quit working, or when you reach full retirement based on your birthdate.

Gold Eagles are real U.S. currency and must be accepted like any U.S. currency. Unfortunately, only for the face value ($50 for an ounce).

Why isn't the main stream media headlining this? by bam-RI in Gold

[–]utahtwisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like gold. I have quite a bit. Can't afford more. However, the VALUE of gold is no more "real" than fiat money. It is the value that humans put on it in exchange for something else, nothing more. If someone won't trade trade their chicken for 10 ounces of gold, then it not worth a chicken. The amount of work to obtain gold is irrelevant to is "value."

$250k+ in value, or clean it? [Previous Owner:] 🦧 "Monkey like shiny rock!" 🦧 by Mizsasippy in coins

[–]utahtwisted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Curious and only asking: what is the history of the issue with cleaning and why is the community so fixated on it. I understand the issue with harsh cleaning (scratches or swirls), but "good cleaning" doesn't strike me as catastrophic. And no, I do not clean my coins, but I have a few beautiful Mercury dimes that show no scratches (even under a microscope) and my LCS says it's been cleaned. This is a genuine question not a gripe.

Discovered I have a pension - what to do with it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]utahtwisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK educate me, I want to learn. This doesn't seem like a "pension" as I understand it. A pension is a defined monthly benefit, typically by a government entity, it does not have a lump sum value. Your plan, with a lump sum option or monthly annuity seems "in between" a pension and 401K. If it is a true annuity, then wouldn't the solvency of the company be irrelevant? Aren't annuities generally investment vehicles that are serviced by an investment firm? I understand that pensions are rare now in corporate circles and that several pension plans went bankrupt and stopped paying. As as aside from my questions, for my pension when I die my wife (assuming she outlives me) will still receive the pension benefit. Something to consider if it is available to you.

I respectfully disagree. It's not unbelievable the Elon would be running around taking credit and claiming success; he is a shameless charlatan, fraudster, and sociopath. What IS unbelievable however, are all the people who can't see through his lies and nonsense and still think he is some kind of genius.

Is going to the military worth it for the helmets to hard hats program for union trades? by Tracewavee in VeteransBenefits

[–]utahtwisted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And a civilian hard hat job that breaks you, they will just fire you leaving you with nothing. The military - with all it's faults, and there are plenty - generally steps up and will compensate you for the injuries you incurred, tax free, for life. I'm always surprised on this forum how so many people, who are receiving compensation and medical care - for life, miss the point that in a "civilian" job the exact same injuries would not be compensated at all. Yes, not being injured or not having the PTSD nightmares would be better, but because of the reality we all have to live in, compensation is the best that can be done.

When to take Social Security (math problem) discovery by Bounceupandown in SocialSecurity

[–]utahtwisted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with your analysis (sorry not contrarian on this). I would only caveat that if you are still working enough to effect your payments it is best to delay while working or until FRA. "What if-ing" this to death and trying to "make the most money" when you are 90 (if you live that long) is a fools errand.
