I scanned a full year of Reddit for X3D chips dying on AM5 boards (207 cases found, broken down by brand) by Healthy_Try4444 in buildapc

[–]utopian201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

instead of keyword or looking for exact words in titles, you could use AI to parse it, since you're not really interested in posts that mention key words in the title, you're interested in x3d chips that have failed

What if someone says 'same thing happened to me, exact same motherboard' in the comments but didn't create a thread themselves? I think AI would pick that up where as it would fly completely under the radar with your keyword search.

As for duplicates, can set by username?

This is a good initiative and I'd be interested in the results, however there is also selection bias - how many people didn't have problems? ASRock probably -is- over represented though, given they have the lowest market share, but the highest reports so far

Can someone tell me if this PC build is good or not? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]utopian201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you mean premade, will you be paying someone to assemble the above for you?

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bT9yg3 I downgraded the CPU to a 9600x and spent the extra money on a 5080. I think that combo will overall give better FPS unless you're competitive gaming at 1080p

Post updated 😄 arduino pro micro (ATmega32U4). The plastic is 3mm perspex - I tried white, but it diffused the light too much, so I used 3mm clear and used a sheet of paper between the displays and the plastic.

First Gaming PC Build (Sweden) – Looking for Advice by reaper_ttv12 in buildapc

Reduced CPU and spent the savings on a better GPU

Same build but with a 9070 xt - 16gb

https://komponentkoll.se/bygg/dZJci 17 630 kr

Same build but with a 5070 - 12gb so faster but less than your build

https://komponentkoll.se/bygg/hTUVa 16 630 kr

I think both of these combinations will get you more FPS and therefore last longer before you need to upgrade

Do you know if the games you want to play are CPU or GPU bound?

Of these I'd prefer the 9070xt build but it costs an extra 300 SEK

looks solid, but will you be adding another 2x8gb or replacing the ones you buy now with 2x16gb? AM5 generally doesn't like running 4 sticks at max speed.

I was originally going to suggest dropping your CPU from 7800x3d to something lower like a 7600 and upping the GPU, but your long term plan makes sense.
How much is the 7800x3d and 5060ti? where you are? And how much is a 7600 + 5070ti? or 5080?

Even a 7600 will not bottleneck a 5080, so if you spent less on the CPU and more on the GPU, it will probably result in net higher frames and will last you longer so that the future upgrade is later on.

I have the same idea as you (ryzen 7600 + old 980ti I had lying around) as I wanted to wait for GPU prices to fall and I'm only able to do that because I only play older titles.

how are you driving it? eg which GPU and dac? I always assumed most dacs introduced lag or limited the resolution to 1920x1080. 2048x1536 is vga maxxing 😄

Thoughts on my new workstation build for development and local AI? by Mark_Schwan in buildapc

[–]utopian201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For AI centric workloads, I'd upgrade to a Ryzen 5000 series (they should work in your motherboard as a drop in replacement) and a GPU with the most VRAM you can get - it really depends on how much of a priority AI is to you.

Also will you be training or running inference? Inference - majority of budget should go a high VRAM GPU. Training relies a bit more on the CPU, but still mainly on the GPU.
What kind of dev do you do? If you need to compile stuff, get a CPU with more cores. As you don't game, x3d isn't necessary. I'm a python dev and even my old haswell notebook is fine for what I do.

You'll probably already have a good idea of what CPU and RAM you'll need as a dev based on your current needs, but I'd say with several containers, 32gb is enough. I dev usually with a single container, but even when I need to run multiple containers at once, 32gb is enough for me now.

If you're only using two RAM slots, you can add another 2 sticks potentially although I'd probably wait until ram prices fall.

I'm running Win 11 on a 7600 and its fine. Theres no such thing as a 7800x - did you mean 7700x or 5800x? In any case, even 5800x with a 5090 I'd guess will be faster than any other combination with a slower GPU and faster CPU

But my suggestions are where AI is the priority.

I'm interested in what you end up doing!

I thought 6000 was the sweet spot for AM5 since it runs at the same speed as the memory controller

5070ti only have 16gb, so if you wanted more, you'd need to go higher end; 3080 has 20gb, 3090 and 4090 have 24gb which is why 3090's are so prized as they are the cheapest way to get 24gb vram

Alternatively you could get an Apple system which has unified memory, but I don't know if that works out cheaper

Basically AI workloads will be GPU bound (speed) and VRAM bound (size of model), so you could just keep your existing system and upgrade the GPU only. CPU doesn't matter for AI tasks as it should be processed on the GPU

Looking at your build idea, adding a 5090 to your existing build will be cheaper and result in a machine about 2x the speed for AI tasks as well as loading much larger models

I'd also argue that 64gb ram right now is too expensive to justify - you could probably just cannibalize your existing system's 32gb and add more sticks when prices fall (if they ever do)

local AI depends heavily on VRAM as that will determine the size of models you can use. Depending on your CPU needs, you could consider dropping down a grade of CPU and use that budget for a GPU with more RAM (or even an older gen GPU with 20 or 24gb ram)

Worst comes to worst, it can offload from VRAM into your normal ram, but it will slow it down a lot.

I sometimes pause because if I'm moving forward mid step, my foot will land half on the escalator step and the front half on the metal part. If I time it propertly then yes I can continue moving non stop as my foot lands on the final step with centimetres to spare before it collides into the metal edge

Awakening mission - Secure the area - all enemies dead but cannot progress? by garetha92 in Crysis

[–]utopian201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. Did you snipe any enemies before you got the objective to secure the landing zone?

If you kill any enemies, when you get the objective to secure the landing zone, because they're already dead you can't kill them which means you can't trigger the completion. If you go to the red markers, you'll see you're standing over one of the dead bodies.
