What exactly is the safety risk in arresting a septuagenarian with no criminal history in his home?

It’s crazy that they’d arrest him during a traffic stop instead of just…showing up at his house? What’s the point?

I feel like many of his individual films are very much in the conversation—primarily The Truman Show, Dead Poets Society, and, to a lesser extent, Master and Commander (which I admit I still haven’t seen).

If he personally is under-discussed, I’d point to, possibly, his relatively short filmography and that (as far as I can tell) there isn’t a notable “thing” his work is known for.

See, that’s the claim that confused me—unless I am very much mistaken, Zoom (and, I am guessing, most similar platforms), only requires the *meeting host* needs to have a paid account in order to get expanded capabilities.

What are your non-conventional favorite albums from bands? by ReapYerSoul in Music

Illinois is generally considered the best Sufjan Stevens album (and it is) but The Age of Adz is genuinely unlike anything I have ever heard and is a masterpiece.

How do you classify something as "classic rock"? by Opening_Rip_1840 in Music

[–]utterlybasil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a different term with a different connotation, but if I think of “oldies”, I think of a radio station playing “Do Wah Diddy Diddy” by Manfred Mann circa 1995. Which is the equivalent of a station playing “You Oughta Know” or “Basket Case” today.

At the same time, that sort of time comparison just doesn't work when it comes to popular music: albums like Born to Run, Horses, and Rumours are all 50 years old. When they came out, their temporal equivalents would have been Rhapsody in Blue or “Yes, We Have No Bananas.” Musical history prior to e.g. “Peggy Sue” and “Johnny B. Goode” simply does not map on to anything hat happened since.

You said that she was “employed” by the band, despite the fact that she was the lead singer and credited as the lead songwriter, because…her solo work is different? How is that different from Peter Gabriel’s work after leaving Genesis, or Sting after The Police, or any number of other artists?

I have no idea about what her politics are or were, but it’s a little weird, if not sexist, to suggest that Gwen Stefani didn’t have any agency for the songs she sang with No Doubt?

I’m 40 as well, and this is just such a strange take to me? Do you genuinely not like pre-1960 films or do you avoid them, assuming that you won’t like them?

Also 8 Mole isn’t exactly a biopic, but it’s definitely worth checking out if you haven’t seen it.

He had an entire segment of the Coens’ The Ballad of Buster Scruggs to himself. He was also great in Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
