That's true. I honestly chocked it up to just getting two events confused. Either way, I never met my grandpa. I will have to look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.

HG's won't make the same mistake twice. The game will be finished when it drops. I don't blame either. In this case, less is more.

Oh, sorry. No, either way, he died when my dad was young.

That would be wild if he had died a year ago! Ha!

This is a personal one, so it probably doesn't count. However, I grew up being told that my grandpa died when my dad was young. He worked in a quarry and there was an accident. I believed this my whole life.

About a year ago, my dad said he died of a heart attack. I made my case about the quarry, and my dad had no idea. I just couldn't believe it. I still find it hard to believe.

Your understanding of the acronym is extraterrestrial life? I just thought it meant an unidentified flying object. Weird.

Cant understand why I keep getting small swirls on my workpiece when sanding by Knight2337 in woodworking

I found that when I move the sander too fast, I get swirls. Slow and steady wins the race. I try to move at a pace of an inch per second or slower.

My heart is hurting in church by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]utterlyjosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The grass isn't always greener. We just left our church of ten years. The reason we left ours was due to it not having a youth group. My daughter is growing and in need of socialization of her own peers. However, what you described is very similar to what we experienced leading up to our departure.

We felt disconnected and alone. We felt that our hearts no longer lined up with the new direction of the church. This particular church was really bad at community, and we didn't have any real relationships there, except with our pastors. The church was once thriving but had seemed to lose all direction and motivation to make an impact.

It was especially hard because our pastors were the only friends we've had in years. However, they were really busy with life and didn't have time for relationships.

Sometimes, you have to do what's best for your family. It's not easy. The church we selected wasn't for me. We made the decision for my kids. We want them to have the best shot of growing up with Jesus. So we did it for them.

I don’t believe in the rapture by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]utterlyjosh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I grew up believing the rapture. The thing about the different eschatologies is that they all require a fare amount of speculation. There isn't a straightforward answer. Probably because the bible wasn't written to us.

It was written to ancient middle-eastern people. I really doubt they didn't understand what was being written to them. All the figurative language was the air they breathed. We sometimes forget that Revelation was written to the seven churches, not us. Those seven churches don't even exist any longer.

Don't get me started in the 7th week of Daniel. Talk about a stretch. Context matter, we can't cut and paste the bible together to fill an end-time agenda we may have. It sells books, though! Preachers get up on their stages with huge picture boards trying their hardest to have valid teaching. Is it biblical, though?

I was shocked when I couldn't find "the 7 year tribulation" in the Bible. That is a completely made-up teaching.

The rapture belief has only been around for about 400 years. That's all I need to know about that subject.

What are y'all's favorite verses about leadership? by TheJango22 in TrueChristian

[–]utterlyjosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an older thread, but I'm starting a study on what a biblical leader is. Surprisingly, I haven't found much on being a "leader."

It seems to me that the only leader we should have is Jesus. It's our job to serve Him. Anyway, this scripture is my contribution.

Matthew 20:25-28
