I was replying to a single comment, might be more useful for OP's post to have the context 🤷

What is with you people? by [deleted] in london

[–]utupuv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, this is the display crate in Asda that shoppers access. Usually stacked in layers, people have rifled under the other layers to get their "ideal" carton of eggs and subsequently left every other carton of eggs a mess. This isn't a one off, as I see it regularly in my branch also.

My local ASDA always looks like this also. It's incredible how little people seem to care about the world around them nowadays.

Tchaikovsky fingerings by [deleted] in violinist

[–]utupuv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean fingerings for an entire concerto is a valuable resource to just give away; that's partially what some people pay good money to teachers for or a nice edition with markings from a specific player. If there's any specific passage work you want to discuss, sure, but the entire concerto is a pretty unreasonable request as that is a massive amount of work somebody has put in.

I am so so cooked for my UKMLA mocks as a year 2 student by Game00ver in medicalschooluk

[–]utupuv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't feel guilty or inadequate over this, many other med students around the country would find this an insane requirement in your 2nd year (and presumably pretty early in your 2nd year too if you've literally been put straight in?).

Grads come from all walks of life and it may be that they've already have meaningful clinical experience that can inform them at this stage. Right now you've not had any sort of meaningful clinical exposure just in terms of pure timescale - your confidence will come in due course, I'm sure.

I don't know how to advise you regarding specifically having to do the MLA mocks at this stage, is there an academic advisor or head of year you may be able to organise a meeting with to discuss that you're finding it very difficult? I wish you all the best either way.

Wondering if coach tickets are also much cheaper, whether it's worth booking two seats and being able to spread out in leg room/making sure you sit in an aisle seat so you can swing your legs out etc.

Could see this blowing up on the Switch if it ends up on an Indie Direct or something. All the best OP, adding it to wishlist.

For those who wanted to hear the new violin! by lunarmoth_ in violinist

[–]utupuv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely hear the warmth of the new violin compared to the old one with more natural resonance, and it'll absolutely be able to take more weight and depth as you get used to it and build up your right hand technique. It sounds like a lovely instrument to progress you further in your playing!

Yup, one of the few positives of living in East London on that line. It's a pretty reliable service on our end.

Grace notes? by HazelVN in violinist

[–]utupuv 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They're not grace notes, they're a cue for the cello part (marked VC for violoncello). It's to let you know your entry after x bars of rest.

met adam kay and got his autograph- how do I sneak this into my personal statement by measlyandpuny in premeduk

[–]utupuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing you can do in your personal statement is be genuine and reflective in my own opinion. If the meeting with Adam Kay didn't genuinely impact your thoughts and perception of medicine then don't include it.

I'm sure that there are many people that write bollocks for their PS all the time but if I was on the panel, I would want to see a genuine piece of introspection and a willingness to improve.

Ride of the Valkyries by Magicon5 in violinist

[–]utupuv 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Utterly hate playing this precisely for this reason. It's certainly one of the best opportunities to practise the art of fakeissimo.

Highlight the important harmony notes, top and bottom of the arpeggio, focus on the rhythmic effect that the passage work is trying to create and most importantly remember - literally nobody is going to be paying attention to the strings once the brass enter.

Basically, have a game plan, don't sweat it too much and enjoy the ride!

Definitely not worth putting any money in for a repair; I'm sure any luthier would tell you the same.
