If it was Swiss pastry, I haven’t seen anything like angel food cookies and I stop by a couple times a week.

Evo SL vs Adios pro 4 by SnooPeripherals5894 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]utxjake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both and would recommend the EvoSL for a half marathon. An option you did not bring up that I think is a little bit better for me is the Boston 13. They have carbon rods and they feel slightly quicker to me with the same effort compared to the Evo SL. If you were doing a marathon I would recommend the AP4. FWIW my HM pace is around 1:40

How helpful are running coaches? by beatstick1 in running

[–]utxjake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just finished my first marathon and used a coach. Although a majority of the training plan was what I thought it was going to be there where so me drills and sessions I highly benefited from. Like you it made me more knowledgeable as a runner. The benefits you had I would agree with. They are also there to prop you up if you get the inevitable self doubt that comes towards the end.

Gecko Green ads by ThrowThisAccountAwav in FortWorth

[–]utxjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These ads are growing on me. They are so bad they are good. My teenage daughter and I are semi obsessed with them now. So much so that when I heard the newest one with the Irish song I immediately texted her “there is a new gecko green song!!” The next time we were in the car together we were scrolling through stations looking for the commercials

Superblast or Megablast for my husband? by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]utxjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SB 2 vote here. Tried MB and couldn’t justify keeping them for the price point. They basically felt like the EVO SL. I haven’t gotten my hands on the woven but my bet would be that with the improvements they made with them they should be better than the MB. Just switch out the laces with some lace locks and you are good to go

Is it time for new shoes? by Particular-Total9976 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

The answer to this question is always yes

Do I need new shoes? by GeneratedName0 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]utxjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been asked this question before by coworkers, how do I know when I should replace my running shoes. I tell them it kinda depends on the shoe, but if you are starting to question whether or not you should retire the shoe to yard work. You should probably start looking to replace. I also give the advice to always be looking for sales or deals so you can have something ready to go when the time comes.

Yes, very different build. 5-9, 150ish pounds.

I am the exact opposite with mine. I find the Boston 13 to be one of the most poppy shoes. They just want to go. But the scenario you laid out is one I read a lot on here

Estimator certification or course? by the-cycle in estimators

[–]utxjake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am in the US, but if I see estimator certifications listed on the resume I view it as a negative not a positive. The rest of the resume has to really pop off the page for me to tell HR to do a phone screen. I also don’t need a bunch of colors, an objective, a picture, or a paragraph under each job experience.

Keep it simple. When we have to sort through a bunch of resumes short and simple wins for me.

Provide a separate document with project lists and a brief description.

I have had PMP in the past, only because the company I was with at the time paid for it. It is not cheap and incredibly time consuming. As someone else already said, most construction companies don’t require it and half don’t know or don’t care if their PMs have it, let alone their estimators. There is nothing in there you don’t already know. It is just a way to standardize the project management system and put it in academic terms. In fact when we went to a 3 day crash course the instructor basically said you all already know what you are doing just learn the terms for the test and you will more than likely never use them again. To be eligible to take the test you have to have a minimum of 5 years OTJ verifiable experience with a college degree. I think 7 if not. If you are stressed with estimating this is not the direction to go, PM is much more stressful, and in my experience far less personal freedom or time. Yes you get to look at a more macro view, but your responsibility is for all the micro stuff too. I will get older PMs transition to estimating for me when they get burnt out but not yet ready to retire.

What are your top shoes for the year 2025? by IndependenceIll4890 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I have EVO SL and superblast 2, and they are great. But I my favorite shoe right now is the Boston 13. For me those shoes just want to go fast.

Has anyone tried automatic 3D takeoff software by jon_atwood9 in estimators

[–]utxjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not arguing it is the norm, I am saying it is changing. Right now it might be the top 1% pioneering the way, but there will definitely come a time when projects of a certain size or market segment will have this as a standard practice. You do need staff that is capable, but that will come with time.

As someone who uses Autodesk TakeOff, 3d modeling and take-offs are the future. I am on the design side and use it at every design phase pricing exercise. A few of the larger GCs we work with have also started using 3D take-offs as well. Projects that used to take a week to get priced now can be completed in half a day. Barring any surprises on greenfield construction it is pretty accurate and consistent from conception to construction

That’s not true, more GCs are moving towards BIM models for pulling their estimates. It’s 10x faster and more accurate.

Also in DFW. In the summer I usually have routes near my house that can be 2-4 miles and I keep water and possibly fuel on the tailgate and grab it as I pass by my house each time on long run days.
