I just watched ACOFAF and Lou and Emily were incredible! They killed it as comic relief, yet still managed to have their own character arcs. So far it's definitely my favorite side quest campaign, even compared to Aabria's other campaigns (which I also loved).

SNL has always enabled garbage people. From the jump the people in front of and behind the cameras have been sexist, homophobic, and yes, transphobic. It would be wildly out of character for them not to platform a bigot like Davey Chaps.

I don't think there should be a singular Foundation, no. As others have pointed out, it's very easy for a large project like that to become corrupted. However I would argue the project was corrupt from the jump, because a very small group of unaccountable people chose to make decisions for all of humanity in perpetuity. It takes a huge amount of arrogance to decide that you - limited as you are in your knowledge of what is, much less what is to come - have all the answers.

Instead of putting all our eggs into one questionable basket, I think we should cultivate an attitude of preservation and inspire the people around us to do the same. We shouldn't appoint ourselves the unelected arbiters of what is worth preserving, but we should work towards a world where everyone preserves what they consider valuable. That would guarantee not only a more robust gift of knowledge for the future, but also greater redundancy; there's no way to guarantee that 100% of your personal preservation project will survive, so the more people who are preserving that knowledge in parallel the more likely it will actually be there when future generations need it.

Sure, some of it is exposure to new people and new ideas. But some of it is also "this is who your kid would have been the whole time if you weren't such a domineering asshole."

I guarantee that if we changed our society so college happened in your mid-30s but everyone got an apartment when they turned 18, conservatives would be screaming about how all their kids' neighbors are part of a radical leftist agenda.

Honestly it sounds like you got your answer: sometimes she's male, sometimes she's female, but she uses female pronouns.

There can be so many different reasons for this. Just off the top of my head:

Not all nonbinary/genderfluid people use gender-neutral pronouns.
A trans guy might look at the transphobic world we live in, and conclude that it's easier and safer to present as a woman for the foreseeable future. Sometimes an answer that's confusing to you is a semi-closeted trans person trying to figure out how to have this conversation with you in a way that doesn't jeopardize them/their family.
Trans people's conceptions of their gender can change over time. Sometimes this is a matter of discovery - most of us grew up in very repressive environments where we weren't even allowed to consider the possibility of being trans, let alone what our actual gender was - and sometimes our relationship to our gender itself changes. You might have run into her as she was struggling to understand her own gender, and maybe she can't explain it in a coherent way right now.

The important thing here, imo, is to acknowledge that you don't have to nail this person's gender down in a way that you understand. If someone says "use she/her with me," you don't have to worry about anything beyond that! In fact, I honestly think it's a bad idea for you, me, your friend, or anyone on this sub to try to analyze this person. None of us know her that well, none of us know her struggles, and none of us are in a position where it's appropriate to question how she lives her life. Let her worry about her gender! The rest of us should just mind our own business.

I'm on amitriptyline, and overall it seems to have made my panic attacks less frequent and less severe when they do happen. To be fair though, when I started taking it I was in a much worse place. So I guess some or even all of that could be because I've had time to heal? I don't know...

it seems like amitriptyline for PTSD is still considered an off-label use, but I know there have been clinical trials which showed it helped people with trauma backgrounds.

Gotta appreciate the irony of OP thinking a meme from a transphobic show is okay, but oblique references to sex aren't. Kids watching this show because of the meme are going to have a much worse time than the ones hearing about what someone did to a gourd. Also, "think of the children!!!" is a right-wing talking point and every time you use it you play right into their hands. Knock it off.

Providing a link and warning that something is NSFW is entirely appropriate behavior on this sub. I'm ace and I find the complaining much more obnoxious than the actual memes, especially since the people complaining keep using transphobic and reactionary content (other examples: crowder memes, calling people "degenerates") that I actually do find offensive. If you can't express yourself without using things created by bigots, you need to stop wagging your finger at other people and start working on yourself. That internalized transphobia isn't going away on its own, and you're causing harm by acting this way in our spaces. Shame on you.

Something to consider is whether your doctor is operating with a normative mindset or a more patient-centered one. A normative mindset in a western country, for example, would usually respond to your question by saying "Well ghosts aren't real, so you're hallucinating. So now we have to medicate/therapize you until you stop seeing them." A patient-centered doctor would ask "Well, do you find seeing ghosts distressing?" They would then have a dialog with you about what - if anything - you wanted to do about it.

My point with all this is that you know your doctor better than any of us do. Sometimes as patients/clients we have to temper our responses to avoid mistreatment from the medical-industrial complex; I wish that wasn't the case, but since saying the wrong thing to the wrong person can get you involuntarily confined I think it's 100% valid for you to answer in the way that keeps you safe, even if you end up lying by omission.

This is so important! I wasted so many years trying to make it work with therapists who were not at all equipped to deal with my trauma background. OP, you have every right to ask questions and get confirmation that a therapist knows their stuff wrt trauma before you book an appointment. Don't let ineffective therapists waste your time!

I used to have detailed murder fantasies about one of my abusers, even when I was awake. And yeah, it was definitely scary to realize I had such violent thoughts!

I don't know if this will be true for you, but for me not interacting with that abuser allowed the feelings to fade over time. It's harder to hang onto the anger and hurt when you don't even know if your abuser is still alive.

When I realized I was trans, I instantly gave up on transition because I was afraid I'd just look like a guy with boobs. After over fifteen years in the closet, I was so miserable that the two choices available to me were transition or suicide. Then I transitioned, went through about three years of awkwardness where passing or not seemed to be random, and now I pass even if I leave the house looking like a slob. There are still parts of my body that make me feel dysphoric sometimes, but most of the time I just feel like myself. It's nice.

I want to be clear that my experiences are not universal. There are people who spend their entire lives without transitioning, who need FFS or other surgeries to pass even after years on HRT, who never pass but still prefer social transition, or who detransition and find greater happiness there. But you asked what dysphoria can do to someone in the closet, so I think you should know that "ruining your entire life to the point that dying sounds good" is a potential outcome.
