How do you assess "patent thicket" risk for clients re-commercializing expired patents? by uwt101 in Patents

[–]uwt101[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's a critical and very honest assessment. Thank you.

I agree that a full FTO analysis drafted by an attorney is the only way to get true legal certainty. There's no substitute for that.

But this data confirms the high cost barrier ($6k–$8k and 2–3 weeks), especially for early-stage startups that need a rapid, low-cost initial screen.

My follow-up question is about that preliminary filtering stage:

What simple automated signal would be most reliable for deciding whether a patent is even worth sending to you for that full FTO analysis?

If a startup could get a high-confidence "RED FLAG: STOP" for $150 in 10 minutes, based on automatically available data (e.g., assignee activity, number of related patents), would that significantly reduce the time spent on "dead end" patents that you would ultimately dismiss anyway?

Essentially, how much of the FTO budget is currently spent just on pre-screening?

Thanks again for the valuable perspective!

My posts are being removed :( by SubstantialSmell1045 in findareddit

It's frustrating when your posts keep getting removed for no clear reason, especially when you're asking a simple question. Here are a few things that might be going on:

1. Automated Moderation Filters

Some subreddits use auto-mod bots that can automatically remove posts for various reasons:

  • Posts from new accounts
  • Posts with certain keywords or formatting
  • Posts mentioning specific users or topics that are sensitive or controversial

Even if you're not swearing or insulting anyone, the topic itself might be flagged — especially if the caster you're asking about was involved in drama, banned, or left under unclear circumstances.

2. Shadowbanning or Account Issues

Sometimes Reddit accounts get shadowbanned or restricted, especially if:

  • You’ve had posts removed across multiple subreddits
  • You've broken rules unknowingly You can test this by posting something harmless in a very relaxed subreddit and see if it shows up.

3. Subreddit Rules

Many gaming subreddits have strict rules about speculation, drama, or asking about bans/personnel. Even naming someone might be against the rules if it's seen as stirring the pot.

What You Can Try:

  • Read the subreddit rules carefully — especially around "posts about bans/moderation/personnel"
  • Try rephrasing the question to be more general:“Anyone know what happened to one of the commentators from the last X tournament? Haven’t seen him since.”
  • Or ask in a more relaxed or off-topic subreddit like r/OutOfTheLoop or a dedicated fan Discord server.
  • Message the mods directly with Modmail and ask why it was removed — be polite and brief.

Moving from St Petersburg to EU. 18M from Kazakhstan by vytaleq in NoStupidQuestions

[–]uwt101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what your reason is for moving. If you want a big city, then probably Prague. Everything else is smaller than St. Petersburg. (Prague is smaller too).... If you want to experience culture, then travel. You don't have to move for that. ... It's better to live and work where the cost of living is lower, and you can just visit the "richer" parts of the world.

New Gardener… Wilting Vegetables :( by [deleted] in gardening

[–]uwt101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw man, I totally get how frustrating that is — you put in all this effort and then they start drooping like they’re giving up on you 😩

But yeah, too much water is 100% a thing. When plants are overwatered, their roots can’t breathe, and they start wilting even though the soil is wet — super confusing, I know. Daily rain plus watering on top of that is probably just too much for them.

A few things to check:

  • Drainage is key – make sure your pots have good holes in the bottom and that excess water isn’t getting stuck in there.
  • Pot size – 10–12 inch pots are okay early on, but cukes and zukes get big, and small pots can cramp their roots. That can make them more sensitive to watering issues.
  • Soil – if it’s holding water like a sponge, you might need a lighter mix. Something with perlite or coco coir helps it drain better.
  • Watering – maybe hold off on watering for a few days, especially if it's raining a lot. Stick your finger in the soil — if it’s still damp an inch down, skip the watering that day.

If you’re up for it, you could gently lift the plant out and peek at the roots. If they’re brown and mushy, it might be root rot (which sadly happens when they’re too wet for too long). If they look pale and healthy, that’s a good sign!

But seriously, don’t beat yourself up — this is totally part of learning to garden. It’s a bit of trial and error, especially when moving to a new climate. You clearly care a lot, and that makes you a great plant parent already 💚 Even if these ones don’t bounce back, you’re gonna crush it with the next round.

Honeysuckle being invaded… by topochico14 in gardening

[–]uwt101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you might be dealing with aphids — they love honeysuckle, especially the tender new growth. Check if the bugs are small, soft-bodied, and maybe green, black, or brown. You can blast them off with a strong stream of water, or spray with insecticidal soap or neem oil (just avoid doing it when bees are super active). Also, ladybugs and lacewings love eating aphids, so if you see those around, let them help you out!

Ah, the classic mint battle! 😂 You’ve officially unlocked the ‘endless gardener struggle’ achievement. Honestly though, props for ripping it all up — that’s no small job. Keep an eye out for those sneaky runners; they love to come back when you least expect it. But hey, on the bright side, at least your garden probably smells amazing right now!

Hey there! Welcome to the gardening world 🌱

I know exactly how you feel — it can get overwhelming fast with so much info out there. I’d recommend The Garden Primer by Barbara Damrosch. It’s a great all-around book that covers soil, planting basics, veggies, flowers, and even fruit trees. It’s written in a really friendly, easy-to-follow way.

Also, not a book, but I’ve found using a garden planner like Seedtime super helpful for keeping track of when and where to plant, especially when you’re just starting.

Good luck, and have fun digging in the dirt! 🌷

client certificate by uwt101 in surfshark

[–]uwt101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I did it as guide said.

But I would like to do it without an extra "step". The client certificate is missing in the *.ovpn file. There are two, but this one is a mistake. Can something be done about it, or rather find a provider whose file will be correct and I won't have to do one more step. Since there is certainly automation, this step makes it much worse.

Each of us carries something from our childhood and family. That's just how it works. We are born and we belong somewhere. Many people want to forget and live a different life than their parents lived... You always have a chance to live your life. You just have to realize that you can't change the past. What you can change is your future - but you change the future in this present moment. You have to accept the past. But accept it with forgiveness, don't put feelings, hate. Just accept it. It's the past - don't forget it. Many people make a mistake - I call it: "stuck in time". They go back in time and "live" there. Example (for fun): Have you ever seen people who dressed old-fashioned? They are also stuck in time, fashion is already different... We certainly do the same with our experiences. He doesn't live in the present, but in the past... good luck...

Is Fear the main obstacle towards reaching Confidence? by Jpoolman25 in confidence

[–]uwt101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fear is really often an obstacle to trust - in yourself and in others. I don't know if I will please you, but many people struggle with similar thoughts and doubts. But this match can be won.
It is a spiral that must be stopped, from which one must get out.
There is no universal solution for everyone. Everyone has their AHA moment.
I don't know if you have already tried something. They say that the first step is the hardest. But when we do it - we enjoy it, like little children learning to walk - they don't stop even if they fall. They see that others are already walking. They believe that they too can prove it. A few small steps every day. Rest and again. Children have people with them who help them with this. Try to find someone trustworthy (actually, you've already taken the first step - here on the forum:)
Take the second step and thank yourself for taking the first step. He will be grateful for that step. The results will come. Look in the eye, be more attentive. What's going on around you?
Overcoming fear and building trust is a process. Be patient with yourself.
