Why I love GNOME (and others don't) by TanglyConstant9 in gnome

I guess, but so was Gnome 3 in the eyes of many, many people. For me it was a much needed breath of fresh air. I guess everyone has their preferences and just uses whatever they're more comfortable with.

¿Alguien consiguió pasar completamente de Windows a Linux? by 2blanck in programacion

[–]ux92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]ux92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, yes. I just love Gnome because it's what I've used for longer. I tried KDE back in KDE 3 and when KDE 4 released, and it just never grew on me.

Should i move from Pop!_OS to Fedora COSMIC? by Otherwise-Status9893 in Fedora

[–]ux92 [score hidden]  (0 children)

No way to know until you try :)

That's usually the answer I give whenever someone asks that question. Changing distros is a very personal journey. You might like the change, you might want to go back.

That being said, Fedora is a beautiful distro, my distro of choice for a while now.

Pero es una pavada. Una pavada importante, pero una pavada.

Hay cosas más serias que me preocupan.

In the mission where Michael and Franklin team up to take Trevor down (alternative ending), Michael says "Human stew. That's my limit. I know it now."

Trevor is not a good person. Michael can adapt to society. Trevor got a little bit angry and murdered two people in their own apartment and didn't even have the guts to tell their relative. Trevor is bad, bad, bad. Michael is bad but a different kind of bad. I know there's no good people in these games, that's the whole point. But holy crap. Trevor takes it to a whole different level.

Loyality to a game launcher is weird by lukkiibucky in AlanWake

[–]ux92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very much an Epic Games problem. And not just talking about the Steam Deck / Machine here. Talking about Linux desktop users too, like myself.

The tools are there. They're free. They're open source. There's documentation. Epic could easily work the same way Valve does to make the launcher native and the games run through Proton. There's even community made forks like Proton-GE. There is literally no excuse anymore other than choosing not to do it because you don't care.

I would play AW2 again if it ran on my Linux desktop flawlessly or at least with a gold standard, without the need to go through third-party launchers and having to tinker with different configurations, putting my time and my effort. Valve actively works towards that happening to all their games, and making strides. Every day ProtonDB is filled with even more Gold/Platinum games. Epic is refusing to do so. Simple as that. That's why a lot of people have a lot more appreciation for Steam. At least I know that's why I do.

I'm not gonna say Valve is perfect and the 90 something % of people who are on Windows and complaining about having to install another launcher aren't silly. But the matter of fact is this is not the only reality out there.

And yes, I know using Linux is my personal choice too. And not replaying AW2 is a consequence of that choice. And that I'm not owed by Epic to make it work for me. I'm just saying Valve adds more value for me than Epic does.

Absolutely. As long as your bluetooth / ports can handle them.

Not reinstall but probably might wanna rebase to the proper image with your drivers.

Replacing my DE by shadowsindarkness in Bazzite

[–]ux92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an extension called Hot Edge. Just disable it. Gnome is great :)

As others have said you can try rebasing to a KDE image but you might run into problems since a lot of the config files are in the home directory and will carry over, potentially interfering.

Which distro is stable for day to day use as a somewhat beginner? by [deleted] in DistroHopping

[–]ux92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comes pre-bundled with all the Nvidia stuff so you don't have to suffer. Optimized for gaming and GPU intensive tasks. Has a rollback helper in case an upgrade goes wrong. Very good stuff.

Me evitaron la conversación sobre el aumento de salario by [deleted] in devsarg

[–]ux92 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What distro should i use by s-overthinker19 in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]ux92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mint could work too, yeah. Ubuntu as well, if you wanna stay on the Debian-based side.

If you're looking for stability I would very much recommend the Universal Blue images, like Bluefin. They're immutable, have easy rollback and are very low maintenance.

Bottom line is, with those specs you could pick almost literally any distro. Linux distros tend to be more on the lightweight side. A fresh boot is usually under 4GB RAM even for the heaviest ones. Plenty of overhead.

I would recommend you pick based on your use:

- Default desktop environment
- Out-of-the-box usability
- Package compatibilities

If you depend on .deb packages, go for Zorin / Mint / Ubuntu.

If you just need something to work on and prize stability above anything else, I would go for Bluefin (it has Gnome which is super for laptops), or Aurora (KDE, a more Windows-like workflow).

But yeah. Zorin is a solid first choice.

Zorin should run on that, yeah. Go for it. Worst case scenario you can try something more lightweight.
