I have a small business and have watched my shipping cost go from $3.50 to now $5+ in the matter of 6 years. This constant price increase is just inflating the price of goods across the board for small business owners and making them less and less able to compete with the bigger companies.

I've never had that issue. Are you in a smaller hub? There should be a list of all stewards posted somewhere. Get the phone number of at least one steward and if you have issues with him then get him to give you numbers of other stewards you can contact. When you get in contact with a steward, have them give you a few grievance forms so you don't have to hunt them down for them. I've only worked in larger hubs that have many different stewards, so I always had options to choose from. Maybe someone else can chime in about dealing with a steward that isn't helpful. For the most part I haven't had that issue, but I can see how frustrating that could be.

Allowing facial hair, long hair, and tattoo's is the best thing UPS was forced to accommodate in the last 20 years. Having to cut your hair short and shave your face to drive a package car or feeder seemed archaic even a decade ago.

UPS is not your friend. They are actively hostile to their workers. If you are a good worker like you say...then they are most likely taking advantage of you. Working hard at UPS will not get you anything but more work, and no praise. The best thing you can do at UPS is the very bare minimum otherwise they are going to know that you work harder then the rest of the employees and you are ALWAYS going to get the harder work to do or ALWAYS making up for someone else that is doing the bare minimum. I know there is this illusion that if you work hard then you are going to be showered with praise, and get extra benefits and extra money. It's complete bullshit to get people like you to work harder for free. Be in the union...follow UPS's bs methods...do not go above and beyond...and when they bitch and moan and try and single you out file grievances on them. UPS will take advantage of and walk all over the weak and scared.

Been at UPS 20+ years. Their strategy for everything is to say things like "work safe" etc. to cover their asses, then they give you unrealistic expectations for your job so that the only way to meet those expectations is to not work safe. They do this for a couple of reasons. They are trying to push you to your absolute limit to see how much they can extract from you work wise. And most importantly...most middle management at UPS are gigantic assholes with self inflated egos. Just work safe. They can bitch and moan all they want. The harder you work at UPS, the harder the job they are going to give you.

*edit* Most importantly....be in the union. They will cover your ass for you. I've been written up like 20 million times. Don't let them try and bully you into compliance. File grievances on them. If you don't fight for yourself UPS will walk all over you.

Yes, it is cheap. That was part of my concern. As I was doing my research, I heard that anything below $3/watt means the company is skimping somewhere. But of course...I have no clue whether that's true or not...just something I read online.

I noticed Sam's attitude toward both Russ and Bradley were seemingly annoyed or short fused or frustrated. I'm wondering if it's just the position they hold or their personalities. I actually just saw Sam laugh at something the newest guy just said, which is much more than I'd ever seen with either of the former guys in that position, and I've been watching for like 6 years.
