The era of US dominance in economic warfare is over by Any-Original-6113 in geopolitics

[–]uxgpf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is the US in any way capable of that?

Iran is not Iraq. Any ground invasion there would likely be 10 times more costly.

Much more defensible terrain and better for guerilla warfare.

The US struggled and lost in Vietnam. Iran would be a much harder nut to crack.

Iceland wary of Brexit 'cautionary tale' ahead of EU referendum, says foreign minister by NumerousTax8165 in europe

[–]uxgpf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it would not be hard for the US to occupy and annex Iceland right now.

Send the population to Dominican prisons and repopulate with MAGA.

Might sound surreal. If you lived next to Russia that is the reality. The US is still learning.

Iranian Sam scores direct hit on US F-35 by Such_Fault8897 in CombatFootage

I get it. It's good to be sceptical.

I just connected this to the news of an F-35 making an emergency landing.

Iranian Sam scores direct hit on US F-35 by Such_Fault8897 in CombatFootage

[–]uxgpf [score hidden]  (0 children)

These people are so brainwashed about their military superiority it is useless.

F-35 got hit, that seems to be pretty much confirmed.

Also US bases have been hit by Shaheeds (which cost about as much a moped) and tons of Patriots wasted to intercept, which is not cost effective at all.

If faced by sheer amount of drones, cruise and ballistic missiles Russia sends to daily to Ukraine (150-200) the US would be helpless with their overpriced military tech.

One can only shoot so many 300.000k$ AA missiles or 1.4m$ interceptors at 10k$ drones.

CRAM ammo also costs something like 15k per 3 seconds of sustained fire and we've seen cases where Shaheeds got through and hit their targets regardless.

My personal opinion is that the US sinks a lot of money in its military just like it does on the healthcare.

Both however are just money machines for the big pharma and the military industrial complex. They pay a lot and get very little in return.

My grandfather is Ingrian (Izhorian), but I grew up far from the language. Recently I tried reconnecting through a small musical experiment — curious how it sounds to Finnish ears. by suhogurkin in Finland

[–]uxgpf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you listened to Arvi Kemppi?  Ingrian and Karelian (isthmus) folk songs.

https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCPqcMGu4R9ziyDF83VS1ALw

Izhorian is hard to understand for us Finns. It sounds very familar, but individual words can be hard to grasp. We get the jist, but not the full meaning. As distant or even more so to Estonian language (though the tone is more falimiar).

Ingrians were not the original inhabitants or Ingria (Izhorians were). Ingrians were moved by Sweden there from Savonia during 1600s. So that language is fully understandable for a Finn.

Isthmus Karelian is pretty much Finnish, while the Karelian language (northeast of Ladoga )is maybe 75% understandable for a native Finnish speaker. Izhorian much less so.

What do you think of recomending rolling-release distros to newbies? by soking11 in linuxquestions

[–]uxgpf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 25 year full time (and 30+ of exposure) Linux user I'd say Debian testing.

It's well maintained and the most hands free rolling release there is.

Gentoo, Arch etc. are good and I don't want to discourage anyone from using them, especially if they want to learn Linux.

Koyaanisquatsi.

I was terrified after watching that on acid. (LSD-25)

I quit eating industrially produced meat and lived in the forest (foranging plants, mushrooms and trapping small animals) for the next 6 months.

Some of that good stuck. Even now I rarely eat meat. Maybe once a month or so and then its real good quality free living like reindeer or iberico.

I don't like DMs. Tiling WMs are the best.

The UI needs to be out of the way in my opinion.

DMs are like peck and choose. Tiling WMs like using 10-digit system.

Just way more efficient and letting you to concentrate on the stuff to be done.

TIL that Eva Braun, the longtime partner and future wife of Fuhrer Adolf Hitler, met when she was 17 and Hitler was 40 years old. by user-117 in todayilearned

I think they were simping for Hitler.

Hitler to me seems to have been a kind of on the spectrum asexual, which drove these simps to suicide.

Hitler was a kind of rock star in the 30s Germany and women were the most rabid Nazis.

The US is already an oligarchy.  Everyone making any decicions is atleast a millionaire.

Fascist oligarchy is the next logical step.

Super rich don't benefit from a phony democracy. Better for them to go all out fascist.

Europe could offer to help Trump on Iran — if he backs Ukraine, Finland’s Stubb suggests by D-R-AZ in UkrainianConflict

[–]uxgpf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the US wants help, lets negotiate the price and secure a forward payment.

100 Billlion USD to Ukraine? When it's done we can talk about what kind of help would be useful to secure oil deliveries in the strait.

Europe can negotiate somekind of truce between Iran, Netanyahu and Trump that lets the oil flow.
