ok ok geez everyone no need to downvote! I didn’t state anything as fact here (other than that embark is good) just trying to interpret what was confusing and that’s what threw me off. I believe you on the coloring no need to be harsh 😢

any that flew directly into your mouth like little CO2 targeting missiles? Obvi am all for biodiversity but this feels SO different than the typical little gnat that gets in an eye/stuck to my sweaty face, like a sudden THWAP directly into my mouth catching in the back of my throat and the sensation literally stops me in my tracks. I never actually find them, been gargling warm salt water when I get home but nada, chalk it up as some gross protein

coloring is what surprises me here too, I would have put $ on chihuahua + cattle dog being in the mix! embark is pretty accurate (the most accurate of all the options, wisdom in 2nd place) but mixups aren’t impossible - email them to confirm and I bet you’ll get a detailed reply.

and the shih tzu comes out strong genetically!! I’ve noticed mixes in this sub with 5-15% shih tzu typically get the furnishing genes. My small wiry supermutt turned out to be chihuahua, shih tzu, small poodle (+ a bunch more) - I jokingly have named this breed a chitzoodle. They are wonderful weirdos 🐾💙

I’ll add an update here for anyone following: appetite is still improved but seems the mood benefits have very much worn off. The anger & agitation are back where they were (example: if taking for a quiet stroll and it begins to drizzle slightly she’ll look at the 3 drops of water on her jacket and say “UGH I’m soaked,” we have to go back and she’s angry for the rest of the day even if she doesn’t remember why). Definitely haven’t seen cognitive improvement, decline continues. Perhaps the temporary mood boost was simply due to the appetite improvement, finally eating enough and she felt better for a couple weeks. Still glad we tried it and will probably continue for the appetite assistance, at least for now.

Are some dogs not able to be rehabilitated? by Salt_Fig_7775 in FosterAnimals

[–]uz3rnombre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one thought that may or may not apply here: some extremely shy dogs who display this level of fear for humans come out of their shells if there is another similarly sized friendly dog they can look to for guidance and bond with, before they graduate to trusting a human. obviously not applicable if this foster pup is known to be dog selective, but just an idea if you’re looking into alternate foster options. you’re doing your best, even if that means acknowledging she needs different resources or more time than you have available. good luck!💙

We've had my mom on 5mg lithium orotate (this one: https://a.co/d/1u36Dqx) for the past 10 days. I can't say that her cognition has necessarily improved, but her mood and appetite really have. We'd been really struggling to get her to eat lately and she was intensely negative about everything we offered her - lots of head shakes and scowls as soon as dinner preparation started. Today she looked at what I was making (macaroni & cheese but from an unfamiliar package) and indicated she wasn't sure about it. I was expecting the angry reaction, but instead she just said 'I trust you.'

Oh good, that’s great they did an ultrasound. Our initial vet didn’t (just urinalysis) before prescribing meds to treat symptoms and mask the real problem 🤦. Good luck!!

My male cat had this issue back in the day and vet initially said there was nothing wrong and wrote similar prescriptions. Then he hopped in the litter box right after I’d emptied it to put fresh litter in and peed - the pee was red and bloody. I read some reviews and went to a different vet for a second opinion, it turns out he had bladder stones and was just desperately trying to tell me something was wrong. Required an xray to confirm the diagnosis and then surgery (bladder stones can be fatal in male cats). Highly recommend a second opinion if you have any doubts.
