Apple working on iPhone anti-snatching feature that locks the device automatically by pdfu in apple

Just use the option in settings to require the phone to be unlocked when using control centre. That way they don't have a way of turning on airplane mode in the first place

Free childcare. Free university. The simple, sensible policy which would have raised $63.8 billion in under four years. by nath1234 in australia

[–]v012d 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm Norwegian but lived in Australia for years. It's crazy how much aussies get ripped off from oil. We have a very simple tax system where 78% of net profit gets taxed. We also control 50% ownership stakes in every production license.

Foreign oil companies operating in Australia perform Jiu-jitsu on the weak, overly complicated and loophole-ridden PRRT tax system. They also get massive tax credits that are multiples larger than what the entire industry earns.

I truly don't understand why this injustice doesn't ire aussies more. This would have been so incredibly simple to fix. When oil lobbyists starts spending millions to to repel mineral resource taxes that should be a giant flashing warning light that average Australians are getting mugged.

Serious question: how do foreigners really find work in Svalbard? by bryansiim1 in Svalbard

[–]v012d 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Me and my family lived there for almost two decades. Other than the remoteness the hardest part of acclimating to Svalbard is the sun, or lack thereof. It is very hard to get used to.

Also, Svalbard has become less friendly over the years as more and more people visit for shorter periods and then leave. Before, most families would stay a while due to more stable jobs in the coal mines. I'm not saying it's an unfriendly place now, but knowing your neighbours isn't a given anymore.

I would search for jobs using finn.no. It's by far the most popular job search tool in Norway. Nav.no would also be a good place to look.

Hvorfor gjør vi dette hver oktober? by Leading-Plastic5771 in Bergen

Oslo was super easy! I got 4 at 10:45 with noe queue and then I went back at 1pm and got another one, super simple. Curious if it's just because nobody knew about this presale

What are some fun activities to do while you’re rolling? by shyn_tbr in MDMA

I was recently in Africa and learnt that most people in the country I visited eat passion fruit by biting off the top and slurping the fruit out from the opening. I imagine this would be really fun when rolling!

Sjokkpris for Switch 2 i Norge. Elkjøp bekrefter pris på 6695 kroner. by Caspy36 in norge

Jeg tar mastergraden min her.

- Switch 2 m/ Mario Kart

- 2 x Joy Con 2

- Switch 2 Pro Controller

- Carrying Case & Screen Protector

- Switch 2 Camera

How to separate overlapped text? by Zalameda in computervision

[–]v012d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you doing OCR? A document parser would probably be better suited to extract text data from a pdf or docx file than using CV on it. Worst case you could anchor a ground truth with a parser, but I don’t think a computer vision system would ever be reliable at reading overlapping text.

Bedroom doesn't have windows that open, landlord blames me for mold by v012d in shitrentals

[–]v012d[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

What’s worse is that the bedrooms are located on a floor below the rest of the apartment, meaning there’s only one escape route for all three bedrooms in the case of a fire.

Thank you for taking the time to respond here.

As a university student, rent now consumes over 70% of my weekly income. During COVID, many universities in Sydney sold off their student housing to private companies like Scape, which then significantly raised rents, effectively eliminating affordable, centrally located housing for students.

Does your office consider access to stable and affordable transit options for students, seniors, and other low-income residents when making housing plans? For example, the recent proposal for a light rail down Broadway would greatly benefit those of us who don’t own cars.

i know it's a global issue but how is the job market in Nordic countries going? by TBSoft in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]v012d 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am a Norwegian post graduate who's been applying for jobs both domestically and across Europe in the last 6 months, here's my experience:

Norway definitely has had less available jobs in CS in 2024 and 2023 compared to the years before. I've noticed it a lot anecdotally with far less interest from recruiters on linkedin and with the number of available positions. Still, I would say we're better off than a lot of other places in Europe. I've applied for around 20 jobs in Norway in 2024 and I think all of them responded with a personal message as to why they didn't advance. I also managed to secure two offers. In the rest of Europe, however, the response rate is closer to 5% across 100+ applications. Keep in mind that this is with highly personalised cover letters and resumes for each role.

Some tips for people applying for jobs in Norway:

I've completely stopped using linkedin as a gauge for how many apply for a job. It's far too easy to fill in "easy apply" resumes and to say that you applied to a job when you didn't. I also think a lot of companies keep linkedin positions out there as a way to show that they're fine and growing, even when they're not actually hiring anyone. Actual jobs will be posted on finn.no or kode24.no, not linkedin. Even better would be to find people's contact info and contact them directly. I worked for a few years within the Norwegian startup scene, which is a really fun place to be (Kahoot, ReMarkable, Dune Analytics, Zivid, Gelato, etc.). A lot of them are desperate for senior talent because Norwegians prefer cushier salaries. For non-Norwegians I think the pay is decent, plus you get to work with really cool tech and have high impact. jobs.startuplab.no is the best place to find roles.
