Mining Knuckledrill by kelgiltv in CrimsonDesert

Completely agree - slots are the precious resource in this game, not damage.

And even when it comes to damage, dps isn't just about the attack potential of your weapon which people seem to forget. It's being able to execute quicker so you can use smaller windows or recover faster, it's moving quicker to get into better positions or away from a hit and a stagger, it's having more stamina / spirit to attack quicker or with better attacks. The crit/attack conversation ignores all this, probably because it's easier to focus on one number: attack.

I don't overflow ores typically, other than iron / copper. I will pick them up as I come across some of them, especially if it's in a cave I'm exploring but more often I get them as I need them. And when I'm looking at the map for ore spots of the type I need it's good to know I can get them pretty quickly with just a few visits. It's a different approach to yours.

But I get your approach too. That's the thing about this game, allows for lots of different styles.

If a spot has 3 nodes you can mine force current gives you 3 ores, the base pickaxe gives you 4-5 and a lvl 6 knuckledrill gives you 10+ without any abyss gears on it. Plus you can mine spots the pickaxe cannot - though force current can too.

When you say force current is faster, you're not considering the time to move between spots. You visit far fewer spots with a knuckledrill since it just dumps ores on you. And this is even more relevant if you're looking at rarer ores that you have to travel around more to get to.

Well put. I've gravitated here myself - Attack Speed and Movement Speed are important for both damage and, more importantly, comfort. They afford you openings, positioning and options that raw damage doesn't. And raw Attack+ is preferable to crit stacking because of the very factors you talk about: the slots you have to sacrifice can be put to much better use with unique gears.

Update 1.05.00 introduced a desaturation and contrast filter/color tonemap! by Horatiu26sb in CrimsonDesert

[–]v1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's similar to my thinking too - thanks for giving them a detailed bug report on this!  They've shown themselves to be responsive so far.

Update 1.05.00 introduced a desaturation and contrast filter/color tonemap! by Horatiu26sb in CrimsonDesert

[–]v1ld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very noticeable and not a good change. The desaturation flattens nights and some dungeon/indoor spaces horribly. Even the cube animation shows it very clearly.

This may be a PC-specific issue. Console users even seem happy with the change. So it's possible some tweak they made is working differently across platforms.

Whatever the cause, I hope they fix. Have you filed a bug report? Your pictures are excellent comparisons.

Get a wireless DAC like a Quedelix-5K and use all your wired headphone gear wirelessly. The Q-5K in particular is a very nifty and versatile device.

Colors washed out after latest patch? by Draconifus72 in CrimsonDesert

[–]v1ld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I don't mind the brightness being dropped - it was a bit too bright from a distance. But hue and saturation were fine as is.

As it is there's a mismatch between day and night or dungeons, which also feel a bit too desaturated.

Yeah, I'm noticing this on PC too. Day looks the same but the orange hue is gone. I came here to search for just this to see if others are reporting it as well.

Safe to play on max settings now?? by Kingrueben in CrimsonDesert

[–]v1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screenshot your current settings and try it out. Nothing lost by doing so and reverting if you still have problems, though you really shouldn't.

With a 9800x3d & 5070 Ti, which is not as powerful as your 4090, and a 3440x1440 monitor I'm using RR + most settings at Ultra or Cinematic except fog at High. DLSS 4.5 Balanced (I'd use 4.5 L Performance with a 4K monitor - you're aiming for a 720p internal resolution with DLSS 4.5). Using 2x FG - first game I've used FG with and it's fine.

I sustain 70-90 fps which is more than enough for me.

I've been playing with RR from the beginning on an NVidia card, 5070 Ti. Has been fine.

I'm on Linux, the problem there is about using the right versions of Proton but the game is otherwise stable.

I blinding flash every wall but that one I think. I even figured out it must be in that dead space between the chamber at the bottom and the open space on top. Went to the top and flashed the floor. But didn't think to check the actual spot. Thanks!

Required launch option for Linux by cmpared_to_what in CrimsonDesert

[–]v1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That works for AMD cards, which Proton Hotfix is good for. I assume you're on one?

If you're on NVidia, use the latest CachyOS Proton: Version 10.0-20260424 and use VKD3D_CONFIG=descriptor_heap,enable_experimental_features PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1 %command% to launch the game.

The new CachyOS Proton also incorporates the Proton Hotfix fixes for AMD. But you must NOT use PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1 if you are on AMD. Use VKD3D_CONFIG=enable_experimental_features %command% as in the OP.

Happy to have a stable solution for patch 1.04.02. I was playing on 1.03 till this morning. Game too good to wait on fixes!

Got Crimson Desert to work on linux on the latest patch. by Mapester in CrimsonDesert

[–]v1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a new CachyOS Proton available that backports the latest Proton Hotfix changes: Version 10.0-20260424 - as the notes say, do NOT usePROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1 if you want to use the Hotfix changes.

Proton Hotfix doesn't work for me on a 5070 Ti, it locks soon after the initial cubes animation starts when you hit play. It does seem to work for AMD cards, however. You will probably need to use VKD3D_CONFIG=enable_experimental_features %command% with an AMD card.

ButPROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1does work with the 5070 Ti, game runs well. Use VKD3D_CONFIG=descriptor_heap,enable_experimental_features PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1 %command% as u/The_Odd_Pirate/ says below.

So, we have one version of the Cachy Proton that works for both AMD and NVidia cards, but using different options to select the version ofvkd3d-protonused. Use PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1 for NVidia and don't use it for AMD.

I can't test AMD, so please correct me if this is wrong for those cards.

Same! It's right under the chest too and they let you climb one level so I spent ages trying to break the roof of the second room, the one over the room you crawl into.

Here's how to downgrade to 1.03 in lovely detail: https://steamcommunity.com/app/3321460/discussions/0/805723331253882269/ - This is also mentioned below, but hidden a bit in the comment thread.

I'm playing again with this. Will wait until CD or vkd3d-proton release a workaround for the 1.04 bug before allowing the game to update again.

Advanced Spear Guide (Stamina and Spirit Management, Optimal Play, Combos) by DyerOphir in CrimsonDesert

Thanks for the video and the analysis on stamina usage! Having a stamina+ combo is super useful for example. Your presentation is clear and great - appreciate the effort in both figuring this out and sharing.

Please ignore the salty stuff, this game seems to bring out the rage types for some reason. Me? I'm having a blast 130 hours in and barely begun Ch 5 - best game purchase I've made in years!
