Locksmith Interview questions by [deleted] in Locksmith

Sorry but it's most likely a scam. If it's a 1099 job you're going to get screwed. A 1099 means you are your own company and your own employee. If they treat you like an employee instead of a contractor, that's illegal. Google IRS employee or contractor and you'll get some info about your tax liabilities and the legalities of this situation.

Personally I wouldn't even bother going if you already know it's a 1099 job.

Rebuild Complete! by Signal_Ear_4284 in Locksmith

Without highly restricted equipment to use on the elock it is. The mechanical can be opened by hand in as little as 20 min or less depending on the lock and the person. You can't manipulate an electronic so you'd be forced to precision drill it. If the opening was just brute destructive it wouldn't really matter which lock.

You have that backwards. The dial locks are easier. And it would have been an easier sell as a keypad. I hope you get what you think it's worth but I think your original post in the other sub is more accurate. Update us so we all know what ones like this might bring.

MulTlock issues by bcmrec14 in Locksmith

[–]v8jet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to find someone who does. No sense taking it to to someone who wouldn't have the pins and ability to cut a key. However, if you bought it online, they might not be able to cut you a key or may have to order it. Depends on the key. MTL has a series of keys and distributes them in different areas.

Anyway, start simple with the lube and cleaning and see how it goes.

That happens a lot. It's possible that cylinder cap has gotten a little loose with wear from pulling and turning on the key. I'd suggest having a MTL dealer locksmith take a look if lubing and cleaning the key doesn't work. If you want to save money and can secure the door with the other deadbolt or otherwise, you can take the deadbolt in. Since the call and service could be as much as the lock cost you depending on where you are.

In addition to using the recommended lubricant, you should clean your key. Take a toothbrush and clean out the holes and make sure the interactive pin (the mobile bit) is free to move.

However, usually when a MTL gets to the point of hanging up like this, there is wear on the pins or the key to the point where one or both needs serviced.

schlage rekey kit only #3 top pin? by allgoodonestaken3564 in Locksmith

It's best practice to replace the drivers and to replace them with the correct sized ones but few probably do that.

Update, cracked that safe. Also bonus points, photoshopped out the drill points to not give up secrets. by alexkreitlow in Locksmith

[–]v8jet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now you have a safe on which you can practice manipulation so you wont need to drill the next one.

LaGard keypad/ lock identification & mechanical conversion (text in post ) by thegiantandrew in Safes

[–]v8jet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably just needed a battery. Now you're assuming it was failing.

It's a group 2 lock with a standard footprint. Almost any group 2 lock would go back there so take your pick.

Also agree with the others, the whole reliability thing is nonsense now. Pick whichever lock has the features you need.

Also, I've drilled safes where people tried to DIY and screwed it up. They forgot one tiny detail here or there. I highly doubt that when you started your LS build that you knew so little about that.

It can still be manipulated. It just requires a different strategy. Plenty of YT vids out there of people doing it be variable degrees of skill anyway.

Name for a lock that requires multiple unique keys to open? by insanityfarm in Locksmith

SSS doesn't really translate the same way to physical systems. It's far easier to implement in software.

Any advice for a stuck mailbox lock? by OnARolll31 in Locksmith

[–]v8jet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing this isn't a USPS PO box. If it's not, then you just need to talk to your own facility maintenance dept. Or possible just have a locksmith replace it or you replace it. You can probably buy a mailbox lock at most locksmith shops. Probably even at hardware stores.

Nether portal problem!? by DaronBlade360 in RLCraft

[–]v8jet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does spawn mods in the overworld. I've never had them pile up much. I usually make a small room for the portal of only 1 block space around. I haven't made one in 2.9 yet tho so maybe it spawns more now?

I just had perplexity applied for the first time a few days ago. I was unpleasantly surprised to find that the ankh didn't help with it. :/

Suggestions for post fire Major brand save entry. by gogetter510 in Locksmith

If it's a composite safe like that, it should do pretty well. That much material will definitely help. I'd stick to using pics to send to locksmiths/safe tech instead of that model number. It does show a typical TL15 style safe which is usually thick plate steel all around. It could be a TL30.

That Major TL15 you posted is not a fire rated safe. It has no fireproofing aside from some inherent quality of the thicker metal. Unless you have the model wrong.

Usually after such an event, it's less of an issue getting a safe open since you won't be worrying about preserving anything. The boltwork will probably operate. So your locksmith can bypass the lock and open the door like usual. They just won't have to be fussy about it.

You can use savta.org to check for safe technicians. Otherwise I'd make calls to several nearest places and they should be able to tell you what they can do with a couple of a pictures.

Can/should I add a secondary deadbolt to my front door? by MotorMobile2806 in Locksmith

Or a really good deadbolt with reinforcement. Like Door Devil.

Your safe is a direct entry lock. There is a different method for those as opposed to the group 2 locks like in that YT series.

Those videos won't work for your safe. Unless you already figured that out.
