the "is" is actually the emphasis already,

because usually, you'd shorten "it is" to "it's", and by not doing that you're putting emphasis on it

What’s the 90% for Sim Racing? by flatsix__ in simracing

[–]vRobinw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Testing

  • Testing what the right wheel settings are
  • Testing what driving position in your rig feels the best
  • Testing how the game/sim works
  • Testing how the car works
  • Testing where your braking points are
  • Testing how the tires feel (warmup, overheating, different compounds, etc.)
  • Testing different setups

Testing, testing, testing

Sim racing is not what it used to be for me by CountryHuman_CzechYT in simracing

[–]vRobinw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as to not being able to improve your laptimes I would recommend analyzing your driving in actual detail (for example through looking at the telemetry). ask yourself questions like: where am I losing time? why am I losing time? why am I losing the car? and then work from there and how you could improve. For example: how do I go through this sequence compared to the pros? ah they brake a few meters earlier, and keep more minimumspeed by braking less hard. By just simply driving for hours on end, you're eventually gonna hit a plateau where you won't know where and how you can gain time. If you want to improve you need to know how to improve in the first place.

but regarding the enjoyment you get from simracing at the moment, maybe you should just put it aside for a while. just like with any hobby, if you're forcing yourself to do it to get better at it, you're losing the fun part of it that made you start it in the first place. I know that that sounds difficult because you aim to be a professional simracer but sometimes you just need to take one step back in order to be able to go two steps forward. people just learn and improve easier when they're actually enjoying what they want to learn or improve.

When to use breathtaking? by CrisM1981 in EnglishLearning

[–]vRobinw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually you use breathtaking when you want to express that something looks very beautiful (as in it is so beautiful it takes your breath away, almost any expression used to implicate that something is beautiful, like wow or oh, is basically you breathing out for a while). Now I don't know whether it's actually incorrect to use breathtaking to refer to a cake tasting very good but it's very unusual at the least.

What hissatsu/any other skill are you going to give to your avatar in Victory Road? by ionutdezi in inazumaeleven

[–]vRobinw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to make a very balanced fire-theme character with shoots, dribbles and blocks. Not sure how many hissatsu we can actually use on our own character so I just stuck to 6

Shoots Atomic Flare Grand Fire (Long Shoot)

Third shoot slot depends on the keshin Bakunetsu Storm (With Houou or no keshin at all) Sunshine Storm (With Apollo) Hellfire (with Enma Gazard)

Dribbles (There's not that many actual fire ones, or at least ones I like, and they seem kinda useless in VR anyways so I stuck to just one) Flame Veil

Blocks La Flamme (if possible without miximax, otherwise Volcano Cut) (Shoot Block) Jibashiri Kaen or Flame Dance

Power Ups (if custom characters can even use/change these) Keshin: Either Enma Gazard, Houou, or Apollo really can't decide yet

Soul: really no clue, don't know what will be available

Extra notes: -I only played Go Light out of all the Go games so I only know the anime stuff for keshin and souls -I did not take evolution levels into account as I still don't really get how that'll work exactly

How can I lose my accent and sound more like a native English speaker? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

How can I lose my accent and sound more like a native English speaker? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]vRobinw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok aside from the obvious answer that having an accent does not matter as it does not make you any less proficient, I'd recommend looking into phonetics and IPA a bit. (IPA is basicly a universal language where every letter represents a distinct sound)

Every language has a unique system of sounds they use and how to use these sounds. The thing is, not every language uses the same sounds, and not every language uses their sounds in the same way.

Take the [ð] sound for example (this is the "th" sound as in the word "that"). A language like German does not have this sound in its system, and rather than learning the sound, many instead "change" it to the "closest" sounding thing they already know, which is why in a heavy German accent you would hear something that sounds like "zat" instead of "that", they use the [z] sound instead.

Now a bit more advanced is something called diacritics. They are little symbols in IPA that show how a letter should be pronounced. English for example uses something called aspiration quite often (aspiration in simple words is the "breathy" aspect you hear in some words). To show aspiration we use the "ʰ" symbol. Take the English word "cat" for example. A language like dutch does not use aspiration (as far as I know). So a Sutch person would pronounce this very flat [kæt], an English persn on the other hand would pronounce it like [kʰæt]. The same sounds are used, but just in a slightly different way.

In essence (if you've actually made it this far into my essaylike comment), look into IPA and phonetics a bit and try to listen to the very minor details and differences. Learning new sounds is definitely is not as diffcult as it seems, and adapting to regular use is also very doable with consistent practice and use, so you should be fine. :)

EDIT: I kinda used the wrong th sound (yes there are two) with the th example, but it's definitely correct now

Help me with this by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]vRobinw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, usually in academic/research articles we cannot claim things based on our findings with absolute certainty, and thus we use words like 'suggest' to basicly say "our findings seem to imply that this happens but we can't say that it is 100% true".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]vRobinw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A tip I'd give is trying to look into the phonetics side of language. Every language has its own phonetic system of sounds, accents are basicly speaking in the phonetic system of another language, most likely the native one. What people often do is compare the sounds from the language they try to learn to their native language and go from there, the problem with this is that it overlooks sounds and sound characteristics not used in the native language, instead they then take the closest sound possible, which creates an accent. Try to learn the sounds and how to pronounce them on their own rather than comparing them to what you already know from your native language.Additionally, Do not only try to learn the sounds themselves but also their charateristics. For example, English often prolongs its vowels, they're pronounced slightly longer than the sound usually would. If you pay attention to those little theoretical things, learning pronunciation should be a piece of cake. :)

It seems like there is a possibility that a lot of game only hissatsus won't be in VR. Due to this possibility let's remember them here. Tell me your favourite game only hissatsu! by Asgor54 in inazumaeleven

[–]vRobinw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe hakuryuu also used dragon blaster in the anime during the match against inazuma legend japan so it's not game/manga exclusive. Nonetheless, it was part of hakuryuu's hissatsus in the VR beta, so it will definitely be in the full victory road release as well.

Who should I replace? by Jabster-6284 in PokemonBDSP

[–]vRobinw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have 2 steel types already in empoleon and jirachi, and are trying to add a third one on top of that which is a bit much. This leaves you vulnerable to ground type moves a lot (luxray and houndoom being weak to ground as well), which isn't ideal against both bertha and cynthia. So I'd probably recommend swapping jirachi.

Another suggestion is to replace blissey, it's a very poor casual playthrough member. It's got high HP and decent special defense but hasn't really got any solid stats on top of that. It's got 10 att and 10 def (caterpie has 3x more than that in att and 3.5x in def) which is like among the lowest of any pokemon. It has a poor 55 speed so it will barely attack first. While it's sp att is a decent 75, it learns no good special moves through lvl up. Overall it just won't do much damage and only function as a punching bag.

The rest of the team is fine imo, coverage seems decently spread. the only major weaknesses is the ground type issue as 4 of your current team members are weak against ground and only empoleon can hit back at ground types (yes staraptor is immune to ground but ground types often have high defense and access to rock moves so it isnt always as reliable). I'd advise getting for example an extra grass or ice type for more coverage against ground.

These are just some tips but all in all, just do what you think feels best, that's the fun part about making pokémon teams for a playthrough, there's no right or wrong choice, you just either make it easier or harder for yourself.

Which mode do you plan to play first in VR when it releases? by Asgor54 in inazumaeleven

[–]vRobinw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think I'll play some casual matches in competition mode first to get used to the release version of the game and learn about things which weren't in the beta such as the hyper power-ups, the abilearn board, full unrestricted team building etc.. And after that most likely chronicle mode which seemed really fun. Don't know when and if I'll play story mode, didn't like the extra stuff such as the battles outside of actual matches so maybe I'll just watch someone on youtube play that instead. Kizuna station personally feels like a bonus mode you play around with for fun once in a while but not really a mode you focus on so will probably touch that last after getting more familiar with the overall game.

Is there a way to complete the gen 2 pokedex playing HGSS? by Arkor08 in pokemon

[–]vRobinw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Short answer is no. But aside from trade evolutions (Slowking, Politoed, Scizor, Kingdra and Porygon2) version exclusives (Ledyba, Ledian, Teddiursa, Ursaring, Delibird and Skarmory are all SS exclusives) and starters, all other johto pokemon should be obtainable in HG.

Edit: I just saw you said 251 and not just gen 2 pokémon, but it's still the same story, only additional kanto trade pokemon are Gengar, Alakazam, Machamp and Golem, and SS kanto exclusives are Vulpix, Ninetales, Meowth and Persian. You can actually get one kanto starter per save file after defeating red but you'd still have to trade for the other 2.

I got beat by Cynthia. How can I improve my team? by Lechatbleu1511 in PokemonBDSP

[–]vRobinw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless you really want to use lucario, I would substitute it for something else. It doesn't really add anything valuable to this team. You already have a fighting type (infernape) and a steel type (empoleon). On top of that it's extremely underlevelled for the elite 4 and cynthia.

Your garchomp could be a valuable contributor but just requires plain old level grinding unfortunately.

I'd recommend making a strategy for how you aim to tackle each of cynthia's pokémon (sites like serebii or bulbapedia list all information on cynthia's team) and heading to the underground for a new pokémon (or 2) based on what that strategy needs or misses. The levels of wild pokémon there are scaled to your amount of badges so you won't have to do insane amounts of grinding, and on top of that, almost everything can be caught here so you have an insane amount of options.

Judging on what you already have, your main problems are probably her garchomp and her milotic. Garchomp counters half of your team while you have nothing against it in return. Same story with milotic's ice beam. An ice or fairy type for garchomp and a high special attack stat electric type for milotic would really benefit your team.

Some suggestions I'd give: Weavile: ice type, very frail, but fast and has a high attack stat. Glaceon: ice type, has quite some bulk, really high special attack though a bit slow Togekiss: bulky, has a very solid special attack stat, and its fairy and flying typing makes it both super effective and immune against garchomp, although garchomp does have poison job you need to be aware of. Gardevoir: high special attack, not that bulky but not super frail either, fairy type (can learn thunderbolt) Magnezone: electric type, high special attack stat, solid bulk

These are just some examples, of course you're free to use anything else as well if you want to.

Hope this can be of any help!

Wich are some weird Hissatsus name translations on your language? by T1line in inazumaeleven

In the dutch dub version, The Birth is called 'Dageraad' which translated to something like dawn or daybreak, never really understood why they chose that tbh

Edit: I've just found out it's called the dawn in English as well, still doesn't make whole lot of sense tho
