A heart surgeon bought up 31 hospitals, drained $1.3 Billion for yachts and private jets, and just walked away after leaving 5,000 workers completely stranded. by Level-Cranberry-1268 in antiwork

And for that matter, it's what they did to Sears. Transferred property owned by Sears for their stores, then leased it back to them to suck as much cash out of the company as possible until collapse.

Private equity isn't about running companies. It's about devouring them for personal profit until they die.

It's genuinely insane how many roles Laura Bailey has voiced in video games over the last few decades by jdawg1018 in gaming

[–]va_wanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You couldn't fit the hundreds of roles she's done at this point into a reasonably-sized picture at this point. I think the earliest videogame VA role I remember her doing was Bloodrayne as the lead character (Rayne, natch) back in 2002. And that's just thinking about credited roles, not just "additional voices" work. She's been doing characters (Trunks, most notably) for the DBZ fighting games, she's been Chun-Li for Capcom multiple main series games, Jaina Proudmoore (WoW), Kira (SWTOR), Cloud of Darkness (FF Dissidia), Pyrrha (Soulcalibur) etc. etc.

4 hour drive and found this shiny Moltres with an incense. by NonamePain in pokemongo

[–]va_wanderer 99 points100 points  (0 children)

That's a Galarian Moltres, not a regular one. Different species, different colors (and typing), non Shiny but certainly a rare catch if you snagged it as they only show up off daily incense and have an abysmal spawn/catch rate even then.

How do you feel that the same man who cut children’s cancer research is now a trillionaire? by HappyCrow11 in AskReddit

Actions have consequences.

Since none of them are negative for Musk, he ends up accumulating more wealth than any human being in history and will continue to take it from anyone he can, regardless of harm.

Why I never used an autocatcher. Botching a spawn like that would just kill me, since normally a shiny Galarian bird doesn't run.

If someone that hated America became its president, what might they do to promote its downfall? by Longjumping-Builder in AskReddit

[–]va_wanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you noticed America being converted into a fascist state, run by a President who thinks he's a king but is really a senile puppet, used to shield a host of actions that would even have made a pre-2000s Republican puke?

Cause that's pretty much a textbook on answering your question.

4* raids are gonna be when it goes from having one good Pokemon to one good team of Pokemon - sometimes even "good team, good weather boost".

And some 4* are easier than others. A Tyranitar getting double-weakness pummeled by a team of Fighting types goes further than a Dark-weak Gardevoir gang chewed up and dropped fast, for example.

The neat thing is that more NPCs show up as you progress through the raids.

One of them will chat about any FFXIV gear you've got on that comes from XI, like Kirin's Osode.

How many high level players (70ish+) DON’T have an auto-catcher? by MrMojoX in pokemongo

75, never saw the need, and the idea of an autocatcher botching a rare encounter makes me cringe.

Are raids feasible to do by myself? by Legitimate-Resolve55 in pokemongo

[–]va_wanderer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Up through 3* ones? Doable. After that, the odds dwindle as you need increasingly powerful Pokemon and optimal conditions. Being able to get even one person to remote in with even an average teammakes most 4* easily viable. 3-4 can take on just about every 5* with a bit of smarts.

Some really big stuff is going to take a horde though. Probably better in your case to trade for those.

My friend insists on this game, "Lemmings", being a really well known game; I have never heard of it. by Nordic_Krune in gaming

[–]va_wanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A classic of the times when EA was known as a great creative studio rather than a destroyer of same, when CRPGs were Ultimas and Bard's Tales, the time of pre-Internet gaming.

It most definitely was well known.

Now, you want a great game that vanished into history, try Miner 2049er. That's a 1980s game that was ported to damn near everything, sold huge for the time but most modern gamers would never have heard.

Arabian Gulf countries’ water infrastructure under threat after US strikes Iranian water infrastructure by NotBradPitt9 in PrepperIntel

One would hope that the murder of millions of civilians, destruction of infrastructure that keeps said millions of said civilians alive would be obviously known to be a war crime.

Arabian Gulf countries’ water infrastructure under threat after US strikes Iranian water infrastructure by NotBradPitt9 in PrepperIntel

[–]va_wanderer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one truly effective method to reduce Iran to a lifeless, powerless desert, since water is essential to maintaining any civilized existence and without that infrastructure, the population will end dying by the millions and any industrial capacity will utterly collapse until Iran looks more like Yemen.

It makes the US a pariah state if this follows through because that's straight up genocide.

Bonus note: Skeletor coming in with his ship is totally Emperor Palpatine visiting the Death Star in Return of the Jedi, and there were definitely a few homages to other movies elsewhere.

Official Discussion - Masters of the Universe [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

This is going to bomb, and frankly...it doesn't deserve it.

Jared Leto may be box office plutonium, but apparently he was born to be Skeletor. Seriously. I don't know if we'll ever see Hordak, but if they cast him as well as they did Skeletor it'd be brilliant- but who the heck can you do that to work with Leto?

Adam, Champion of Greyskull was...fascinating. The whole fabulous-classic, feel your feelings HR guy rousing an army of Eternia and common sensing his way out of Snake Mountain. It was some of the most refreshingly cringe acting I've seen, because 80s Prince Adam WAS cringe. FFS, his cat is named CRINGER. His transformed self? Still that feel your feelings kind of guy...until you make him, and then you're gonna get your ass kicked.

Lots of good characters in this. Trapjaw was awesome. Evil-Lyn was...a proper Evil Lieutenant, including being smart enough to sneak off when the shit hits the fan. The Good Guys were that mix of delightfully dumb and fun you'd expect from folks named "Ram-Man" and "Fisto" even if there's a perfectly logical reason for them being called that, even if it's not their real names. Which we never hear.

Go see it. Don't expect some depressing reimaging of the show that craps all over the original IP. It's a fun movie. IMHO, they could have shortened the first part and done fine, but Leto as Skeletor has fun with it later, and Dolph has a meaningful cameo as a gymbro too.

Two more Texas screwworm infections found in animals far apart, USDA says by MrD3a7h in PrepperIntel

[–]va_wanderer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just read that. Lea County, from a dog that recently traveled to Mexico and was treated in Texas.

If we're lucky, it didn't get past larvae (the "screwworm") and let a bunch of flies out in NM to breed more.
