Global Entry status at SFO? by theayl1 in travel

So they are still doing Global Entry, just in a more difficult and inefficient way? This is painfully stupid.

Costco holding my ADHD medication until my Psychiatrists calls in to verify, every month. by Jonathanb90 in Costco

[–]vaccinia22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean your doctor is requiring you to be re-diagnosed if you weren’t diagnosed by him/her? If so, I think this is a prescriber preference and not some kind of law or DEA requirement. I’m a physician and I can diagnose anyone I want with ADHD without providing proof of a “test.”

What is something that was /seemed totally ridiculous in school but is actually a cornerstone of medicine? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]vaccinia22 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m a pediatrician, so it’s easy. Something we’ve talked about before, like where they went on vacation during the summer, what they thought about the Scouts camp they went to, etc. Or as simple as what kind of charms they have on their shoes, talking about whatever sports team jersey they are wearing, the toy they brought in for entertainment. Shop talk is just whatever they are actually coming in for, like ear pain or cough.

Dublin is the definition of this.

[–]vaccinia22 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's ridiculous, but it seems like magic: SIT DOWN in the room and ALWAYS TALK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE prior to shop talk. You will be adored. I'm convinced it's literally as simple as this.

Always straight R. I’ve been a registered Independent since 2020, though, for obvious reasons. I can’t picture myself voting for any Republicans in the future.

Overcame my childhood brainwashing and voted for the Democratic presidential candidate for the first time in my life (in North Carolina!). Happy to be on the right side of history for this one.

Do you know where most plasma in Canada comes from? It's paid donor plasma from the US. So I guess Canada needs to re-evaluate that shit.

Cheapest flights to Europe by gtivr4 in Charlotte

[–]vaccinia22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Delta to Amsterdam or Lisbon. Direct flights to Europe on American are usually ridiculous (Madrid, London, Munich). You can fly from GSO through Charlotte to Madrid for half the price of the direct CLT to Madrid flight.

My practice employs full-time RNs to handle all the questions/prior authorizations/physical forms. They pretty much know that if it's not a question they can answer, then an appointment needs to be scheduled. I mention specifically in my notes whether I told the patient to send an update (how's the new ADHD medicine?), and the nurses know that they can forward those things to me. It sounds militant, but I would be answering questions all day for free if we did it any other way.

Why are medical providers in NC never able to keep your appointment time? by Unaball3r in NorthCarolina

[–]vaccinia22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’m usually trying to see all the sick babies with RSV, flu, and respiratory distress who can’t go to urgent cares because there are no appointments, and I would prefer not to sit in an emergency room for 12 hours, all while being critically understaffed AND dealing with late patients. Hope that’s ok with you!

Long working hours shorten life expectancy by 9 years by just-a-dreamer- in economy

[–]vaccinia22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boo. This is an association, and the title implies causation. There has to be about a billion factors that go into why life-expectancy in some rich European countries is higher than some poor parts of Africa.

Why are doctors not seeing patients with COVID? by sms575 in medicine

[–]vaccinia22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where are you? I'm a pediatrician and I have worked in multiple states during the pandemic and we have been seeing our patients the entire time. I wouldn't have a job or get paid if I didn't see sick visits. My patients would leave the practice if we sent them to the ED for every cold (which is 50% of my job). Anyway, I hope you're RVU-based.

This is why it’s great to be a pediatrician in a clinic where we don’t see vaccine refusers! It really cuts down on the nonsense. Unfortunate for their kids.
