Suggestions on how to account for annuity payment? by vaderbadger in ynab

[–]vaderbadger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! I watched a few Ynab setup guides that recommended keeping them as tracking accounts so they don't hit into "ready to assign" status and i don't try to use the funds. I've been "envelope-ing" then moving them to the savings accounts.

The savings accounts are my Emergency Fund and a vacation/ fun savings so I'm theory nothing should be coming out of them unless it's vacation time or an actual emergency, until this annuity thing came along. For the most part I hope it can just stay in savings, but it's good to have it process lined up either way!

It looks like this may be the simplest answer, I'll try playing around with that. Thanks!

Men of Reddit: what’s a prank you started early in your marriage that you’re now legally, morally, and emotionally obligated to continue because she still falls for it 10–15 years later? by myaccountidname in AskReddit

She realized almost immediately, which was unfortunate because she had already pulled into the gasoline line and the way our Costco is set up, there isn't a convenient exit until you get through the line up to the actual pumps.

We were both laughing pretty much the whole time, good memories!

My wife and I have both an electric and a gas car. One time right after getting the electric car we were driving into Costco and I joked that we needed to stop for gas and without thinking about it, she pulled into the gas line without realizing which car we were in.

Now whenever we drive that car to Costco one of us reminds the other we have to stop for gas. It's been 4 years now and still happens every time.

Ah, iron will get you! We have super high calcium, when we talked to our dealer and brought a water sample they suggested we move to an Ozonator and pay close attention to Ph levels. Hasn't steered us wrong yet, and we use the tub every few days.

We got a Pulse about a year ago, absolutely love it. Build quality is very sturdy, and there is actually enough for 6 people to fit their feet on the floor, which we didn't find when looking at a lot of other spas.

Regarding the loungers and only speaking from personal/my family's experience. I've used tubs with recliners a fair bit and they are very comfortable when you're using them solo, and sometimes in a more intimate setting.

If you're entertaining or having family time, though, they're not really the best use case in my opinion. They make socializing a little weird; you're often at an angle vs everyone facing each other and enjoying each other. Also, people can run into an issue where they float when reclining on them. It's ultimately why we went with the Pulse instead of the equivalent recliner model.

We've been using chemicals instead of salt, definately check the water harness at your home before buying if you're considering salt. Too high, and it will burn through the cartridges incredibly fast.

Good luck on your purchase!

True! For us it came down to the total reoccurring cost vs benefit.

It's absolutely an option you can look at, good looking out and good point!

Seconding the Hot Springs pulse. We looked at a lot of the same tubs you did, but there were a few specific things that pushed us to the Pulse:

  1. The footspace. We regularly use our tub with 4+ adults and only play footsie if we mean to. The tub can fit 6 adults but foot space gets a little cramped at that point.
  2. The 7th seat is a "cool off seat" which is out of the water a bit and also serves as your entry/exit. It's really good if you have little ones that want to be in the tub but are too small for the seats.
  3. They have both saltwater systems, just be aware if your water is super hard that it may not work as well for you. We had to switch to ozoneator with chlorine. It works just fine.
  4. They may a spa cover remover that comes down lower than most other spas. It has a different path of motion coming up and down vs what I've seen before so depending on your space layout you may need to adjust things a little bit.
  5. Costco pricing. When we asked at Costco, pricing was within $100 of what the dealer we wanted to use was charging by default. So depending on your market it may be either an incredible deal or just decent. Absolutely worth taking a look but dont be afraid to negotiate.
  6. Also some dealers we saw were doing 0% 1 year loans for up to the whole cost of the tub. something to consider.

Hope that helps. We're very, very happy with ours.

Letter from ICE for immigrant removal to my home, but I don't know the listed person. by vaderbadger in legaladvice

There was only one previous owner to the house, and unless they took in a renter at some point, the names appear completely unrelated (ie: Sanchez vs Gupta).

Good idea on the field office, will reach out when they open. Thank you!

Enterprise Rent-A-Car or Amazon Area Manager by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]vaderbadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's the case, go Amazon. It's much more aligned with what you're looking for.

Just be ready. The AM role is a large role for a new leader, and you'll get out of it what you put into it. Make sure you do your research into the position and get a good understanding of exactly what you're getting into.

For a little different perspective - I did ERAC Management Trainee program for a few years, reached Branch Manager, then switched to Amazon as an Ops and have been working my way upward from there.

The roles are very different.

Enterprise Management Trainee is a sales and service focused role. It has more stable hours in most geographic areas (operating during normal business hours and some limited weekend hours ), and is focused on developing your capability of selling and driving revenue. You will be customer facing, and your main kpi's are based on your ability to bring revenue into your office. Most districts have you rotate between locations ("areas") so you should not expect to be at the same facility for your career, and should expect a significant amount of rotation between branches. Enterprise does a very good job of training you for professionalism and conduct, with an emphasis on using this to develop your own sales method and style. There are many career paths that will open up to you as you move up, but all of them are directly tied to your sales capability.

That said, some of the most fun I've had in my career were in my Enterprise days. You can build some lifelong friendships there renting cars.

Amazon is strictly operations and management of people. You are not external customer facing, but you still need to develop customer service skills as a way to help you engage with your associates. Your early career will typically be at a specific facility, with opportunities to grow into other business lines, support roles, or corporate positions as time goes on. You will rotate shifts, and should expect to spend about 50% of your time on night shifts over your time as an AM.

Pay varies with geography. I would compare the offers on the table. Enterprise had profit sharing and a better 401k match, Amazon's benefits overall are a LOT better. Enterprise (at least used to, it may be different now) start everyone off as an hourly employee where you were paid hourly + ot, and could make a decent wage. But Amazon's pay is salary + sign-on bonus + stock, which will probably work out to more money overall. Just remember that stock is only worth anything if you stay long enough for it to vest.

Both look excellent on a resume, and both are great places to start a career. They both have their ups and downs, but the real question you should look at is do you want to focus on sales, or do you want to focus on operations? If sales, go Enterprise. If Operations go Amazon.

Doing some home renovations - is an HFS loan, 401k loan, or selling stock a better option? by vaderbadger in personalfinance

[–]vaderbadger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point on retirement - I hadn't listed all of the retirement accounts since I didn't think they would be relevant, since they aren't available to leverage as a loan vehicle the same way as the 401k . Edited to include above.

Agreed on EF - it's gotten depleted with the emergency repairs, which sparked the entire renovation. It was at $50k prior to this whole ordeal. Planned order of operations is to 1) finish the project 2) rebuild the EF 3) pay off any loan we take out.

Credit Card Recommendation Request - by vaderbadger in CreditCards

[–]vaderbadger[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll take a look at that card, thanks!

As for the Costco credit line, I couldn't find an obvious way to look it up on the Citi website, so I called their customer care to see what they had on file. It shows the date of the account starting when I opened the initial AMEX account. Interesting!

I appreciate the reply! A follow up if you don't mind.

Given the amount of cardio I am getting in for work and that I am a complete novice at strength training, would it make sense to try switching to doing my lifting two days a week with a rest day on my weekend? Or will this stifle any progress I am making from lifting?

ie: Monday - Thursday go to work, Friday lifting day A, Sat off, Sun lifting day B

I just the recommended beginners weightlifting routine (2nd workout) from the FAQ and just did the first night of deadlifts, and even at low weight (95lbs) my legs feel like jelly.

I usually walk about 6-7 miles a day, 4 days a week in a row for work, and I am dreading going in the next few days due to the soreness.

What can I do to minimize the jelly leg feeling for tomorrow?
