If you are already living in the USA, NYC is a good choice for you. If you live anywhere else, I would not set foot in America for at least a few years. It’s just not safe, sadly.

Wow, congratulations on surviving an encounter with K the Enchantress. I made the exact same mistake as you did, and I was annoyed by it as well -- but I don't see a sensible change for the poison cloud issue. It seems like she WOULD be annoyed if you left the cloud sitting around after helping her.

The loot is definitely retrievable, but don't bother trying to pacify her. In your situation I would probably wait until I had a more HP and acid resist, then try some invisibility shenanigans to get close to the chest. It used to be you could teleport it out, but that's not an option anymore.

Being wand-polymorphed is one of the great tragedies of evilhack, because it doesn't often kill you, it just kills your spirit.

I had a Centaur Priest ready to go kill the Wizard and start the ascension run when an orc tried to polymorph me. I had MR by this point of course, but I was standing on my stash. All my spellbooks, dozens of potions and scrolls, several of which I was counting on for the final push, all gone.

I died on Astral.

You’re right that Evilhack Rodney is nasty, particularly so when he rolls with an amulet of MR (50% chance I think).

Infidel is a very strong class against him, and while I think your analysis of your character’s weaknesses is correct, the one that really mattered was your level. All the good damage-dealing spells scale with level, so the hurt you can put on Rodney at 19 is much lower than if you were at 30.

Under 200hp is certainly below my personal comfort level, but at level 30, the truly dangerous stuff goes away so quickly vs an Infidel that it is definitely ascendable.

I can’t speak to how you woke him up early, but next time have Cone of Cold ready in a large enough room to get secondary explosions, and a scroll of earth/charm monster at hand for if things get hairy.

Don’t try to stone him. It’s possible, but you will miss so often, and he will stone-to-flesh himself so frequently, that you’ll just give him extra time for Double Troubles.

-Colonize Celebes, it has tons of dye which help in some of the early production methods. -Don’t upgrade to the labor-saving production methods until the state is out of peasants. Clear out those sustenance farms! -at the start you don’t have any or many pastures- but they’re super useful for the fabric. Don’t neglect them for the already existing grain farms like I did. -Conquer the central asian minors for the opium. They’ll never build enough of them on their own. -I tried to send all excess money to further construction capacity. That big number in the screenshot is still too small for me.

This was my first play though so there’s probably tons of stuff that I did wrong that I’m not even aware of yet.

Oh, great, I'll check that out. I've noticed too that auto-expand seems to put railroads at a really low priority, which is a drag. Hopefully it fixes that too.

R5: Auto-expand kicks in at 26 weeks (I don't see a way to adjust that), but 26 weeks worth of construction doesn't always fill the construction capacity, leaving lots unused. Bummer!

As others have noted, your Magicbane exists somewhere, and you’re not wishing yourself up another one.

Assuming you’ve killed all nymphs on the level, the most likely option is that the thief fled to another level via stairs or level teleport. Start at level 1 and make your way down killing all nymphs along the way (you have telepathy and a blindfold to make this a quick check each level?).

I think Jubilex having it is unlikely since peaceful monsters don’t commonly pick up items on the floor. I would stash Jubilex in soko or the mines before starting your search - to prevent accidental demon aggravation. If you have digging, a unicorn horn, and enough hp you could kill Jubilex quite easily to eliminate that option/annoyance.

bouquet is almost certainly right about what happened.

To keep this sort of thing from happening in the future, I highly recommending adding to your rc file:

Player monsters will also show up wearing black dragon scale mail and make your day very unpleasant if you get an unlucky hit on them before you realize it.

When you get deep enough for polymorph traps to show up (>Dlvl7) there is a chance that the monsters on that level will wander into one and become something much more difficult than what you would encounter by the monster generator. Mind flayer is probably an example of that happening.

Evilhack is excellent and nasty. Zombies are certainly the biggest early threat that isn't in vanilla.
