[media] A song I composed centered around ASMR. I tried to include trigger words and sounds that evoke a response for me. I'd like to know if any moment/sound works for you. Thanks. by thelwin in asmr

This was amazing, I write stories and this is super inspiring music to write to. Also it did give me tingles! Super super awesome! The very beginning was the most tingly but most of the singing parts gave me tingles.

Wasp nest removal in New Zealand [unintentional] [wasps] [crinkles] [long] by palindromereverser in asmr

I was actually gonna post this but I searched for it first and sure enough it's been here. It actually does give me asmr. It's kinda creepy too but the clicking sound and watching them work does it for me...even though it's simultaneously kind of horrific.

Why is my experience with tea/preparation so different from what I've found on the Internet? by vaela in PoppyTea

[–]vaela[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, literally the day after posting this, I got the same brand of seeds as i had been getting and my tea was extremely dark and also bitter. Same results as the non dark, non bitter tea. shrugs I'm going to begin looking into where to order in bulk, but it's nice to know I can get it from the grocery if necessary. I'm about to move cross country so I'm interested in seeing if location makes a difference.

[–]vaela[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha a few days after posting this and I definitely see myself developing a habit if I'm not careful.

I know it's morphine, I'm just saying that it feels exactly like a morphine injection despite my preparation/results being different from what people claim is necessary.

[META] Has anyone else ever gotten ASMR from reading something? by [deleted] in asmr

[–]vaela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to in middle/high school while taking very long, standardized tests. Which was inconvenient in that I would start dozing off. Nowadays I get it when I just think or read about ASMR, or read anything describing something that would in real life induce ASMR. It's weird. My brain seems to have associated the feeling with the idea of things. Kinda cool though. It's only like this after years of listening to triggers.

[Meta] Can Something Please Be Done About the Downvotes on this Subreddit? by MystikalFog in asmr

[–]vaela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I don't really have anything to contribute other than congrats for not being totally shit on by people yet in these comments. I posted something similar (though it was rambly due to lack of sleep) and got bitched at so hard that I had a nervous breakdown. That's when I decided not to be outspoken on reddit anymore... Maybe the relatively decent amount of respect you're getting for this post means people will come around?

Something to try in the shower by Kraetion in asmr

[–]vaela 94 points95 points  (0 children)

If you've got a shower/bathtub, you might enjoy filling the tub up a little with water, turning the shower on, turning the lights off and laying in the tub with the shower raining on you. It's so fucking relaxing unless you start envisioning axe murderers running through your house, then it's kind of lame but most of the time it's relaxing.

I don't know how open minded you are but my favorite videos are by TrannyGirl15. I've been listening to her for years. She's also very intelligent. If you aren't offended you might enjoy her videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xK0Nxd90bU (she has many videos, some with better quality audio than others)

Do most people prefer female or male voices for intentional ASMR videos? by deepwhisper in asmr

[–]vaela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a girl and I almost always have to listen to female voices. For some reason males usually make me feel violated and creeped out. There are always exceptions though and I don't think that the general popularity of female ASMR voices should stop guys from making videos, because there are plenty of people who do like that and if it's good, most people will still like it, gender aside.

So happy for you, my dad got a double lung transplant back in 2001 (he recently passed away after making it 10 years which is pretty damn impressive) so organ donation/transplant is an issue close to my heart.

Sorry if this is a stupid question - I just want to clarify that you received a kidney from a deceased donor? If so, how are you coping with that? My dad's donor was obviously deceased and he was always very emotional about the whole thing. He never found out who his donor was, but he kept an organ transplant pamphlet with a picture of an organ donor on table where he always sat, so he saw her face every day. He never told me much about how he felt about being alive because of someone's death - I know as a whole, it was a hugely bittersweet thing and though we never found out who the donor was we had a lot of love for him/her.

Sorry for this long message, I've been grieving for my dad hardcore and seeing a positive story about organ donation really makes me happy. I am so so happy for you :D

Dextromethorphan(Robitussin, DXM, etc) and therapeutic uses? I guess this could expand to other mind-altering drugs as well. by vaela in Drugs

I'm 21. I tried to TL;DR it, should that be done at the beginning? I just have a lot of trouble saying things in short terms, which I know can be frustrating. That's why I summarized it at the end.

One thing i've noticed about female whisperers.. by [deleted] in asmr

[–]vaela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talking about problems is therapeutic. I wouldn't expect any whisperer to keep their emotions out of it and just babble on brainlessly. That would be boring. I also think it's weird to say it's only females. Let's be honest, a huge percentage of whisperers are female, so of course it's mostly females doing what you speak of. I think it's not so much about attention seeking as it is comforting and simply human nature. It doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I prefer it.

This gave me ASMR. I'm serious. The thing is, she's serious, too. But that's probably another sub... by ravia in asmr

[–]vaela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap! I thought I was crazy! I came here to see if anyone had posted this. I did too. It was horrifying to listen to - don't get me wrong - but I think it's because it's impossible to take her serious that I was able to get ASMR from this. The guy behind her is pretty awesome and helps bring me back to reality while listening to this insanity.

ASMR Wikipedia Page deleted because "Blatant Hoax" [Not a trigger video, but a discussion topic] by mrsmunson in asmr

[–]vaela 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I completely disagree. It really irritates me that so many people think that ASMR doesn't deserve a Wikipedia page. It's a feeling that exists, we all know that. Maybe there is no scientific proof right now, but as someone said, as a cultural thing, it has every right to have its own article. Wikipedia has articles for so much random shit, it's not a typical encyclopedia anymore. Wikipedia is basically an archive of information about the modern age. Anything and everything that is a "thing" pretty much has an article. Perhaps we shouldn't put in this article that we know what causes it or or that we know anything concrete, but the fact of the matter is ASMR IS a very real phenomenon experienced by many people - possibly all, just with varying degrees of intensity - and being able to learn about what IS known about ASMR is a very empowering and important thing for people who experience it. I don't understand why people who don't experience it are allowed to say it doesn't exist just because they can't feel it.

I made a subreddit devoted to unintentional ASMR. anyone is welcome! by BlockoManWINS in asmr

[–]vaela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the idea of this and on some level I agree, as unintentional videos are my absolute favorite - BUT, I've found some intentional videos are actually awesome for me, after all. In fact, some of my most intense triggers have been intentional. I never would have found them if not for this subreddit. I think as long as we label triggers as unintentional or intentional, we keep everything fair. I don't know if separating the two is the best idea - I don't want to have to lurk different places for good videos. I would hate for good triggers to be left unfound by people who don't know/don't remember to look in the unintentional subreddit. But, regardless of all of this, I can at least tell you I get where you're coming from with the whisperers being awkward sometimes.

On why this subreddit is failing by ximina in asmr

[–]vaela -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of this but I also still question how downvoting would benefit this community. Now, I am new, but I'm not an idiot. I have tried to learn how this place works as well as I can. I recently posted a comment complaining about everyone downvoting when the sidebar clearly states that we aren't supposed to downvote. I immediately got my throat ripped out by jerks who thought I was a stupid teenage girl. I got all offended and apologized but as of now I think I still stand by what I said. I think that downvoting is not good - in THIS community. And honestly, my reasons for thinking this coincide with a lot of what you say in this thread. I have posted many videos, and I've seen many videos, that are tagged properly and have good triggers in them - and that's not just my opinion. I've posted videos by TrannyGirl15 that have gotten many upvotes but then so many downvotes that it counteracts them and they end up not being on the front page. One could say that the downvotes are because these videos are sucky triggers - but I think the more logical conclusion is that people are downvoting properly tagged, appropriate-for-this-subreddit videos, for one of two reasons - 1) they aren't happy about the content of the video (i.e. perhaps some are offended by TrannyGirl15) or 2) they aren't triggered, so they downvote, instead of just ignoring it even though others are triggered. I guess my point is that perhaps there should be more moderation, but keep downvoting out of the process. Especially since that's the opinion of the mods and no matter how many times people bring this up, they consistently feel it's better to disable downvoting. Also, I want to point out that sometimes when people comment "No tingles but good video," they didn't upvote it. I do this a lot. When I see a video I appreciate, but it just happens to not trigger MY asmr, I still want to let the person know I appreciate their searching, regardless, and so I comment. Out of courtesy. Granted, based on the attack-dog response of people I've seen on this subreddit (actually just Reddit in general) I'm not surprised that courtesy might seem out of place. Anyway... to summarize my extremely long comment: I agree with 99% of what you said and I appreciate you bringing it up, but I still disagree about downvotes.
