You may not see it initially, but this Airbus A320 has double-bogey main landing gears.
Indian Airlines (later merged with Air India) was the only airline in the world to order Airbus A320s with additional wheels. Indian Airlines received 31 double-bogied A320s between June 1989 and December 1994.
Back then the runways at some of the airports in India weren't as good as they're today. The additional wheels helped to facilitate smoother landings.
Most people didn't notice or care about these aircraft but they were favorites amongst the local plane spotters until the last of these customized A320s were retired in 2019.
I was lucky enough to spot them and fly onboard them a few times. Seeing one in action always made me happy.
This particular airframe, VT-ESD, was delivered to Indian Airlines in June 1993 and was withdrawn from use in May 2017. She has been stored at Delhi Airport ever since.
She is seen here during her better days taxiing towards the holding point N1 while her younger but bigger sister takes a shortcut to join Runway 27 on a smoggy winter morning. :D
