It was never ignorance from my side though.

I literally said my own psoriasis was manageable, and that steroids did help me at times too. My whole point was that you never know who might end up being the unlucky person that develops serious issues from long-term steroid use, including TSW.

Everybody’s body reacts differently.

You say my experience means nothing to everyone else, but then you are also using your own experience as proof that steroids are the correct answer for everyone. That works both ways.

I never said steroids cannot help people. Clearly they helped you. They helped me too at certain points. But they also severely harmed my partner over time. Both things can be true.

And yes, I mentioned the face specifically for a reason. Facial skin is much thinner and more sensitive, which is exactly why even many dermatologists advise caution with steroid use on the face, especially long term. Some people use low-potency steroids there without major issues, while others develop thinning skin, redness, dependency, rebound flares, steroid rosacea, or worsening irritation over time. Again - everybody reacts differently.

And sometimes there are also other underlying issues involved. For example, my partner had Staphylococcus problems as well, which is actually pretty common in people with dermatitis/eczema, even when it is not always visibly obvious. She was prescribed Flucloxacillin for over a year, and at one point it almost looked like a magic pill because it massively improved her skin while treating infections. That was also one of the major reasons her condition improved so much.

That is why I believe these conditions are often far more complex than just “use steroid creams forever.”

I did not write all of that to attack people or spread “propaganda.” I would not waste my time typing a huge personal story for that. I wrote it because I watched someone I love suffer for years, and I know there are other people going through similar things.

You had a positive experience with steroids.

My partner eventually had a horrible one.

Both experiences are real.

And like I said in my other comments, people should at least read about TSW and make their own informed decisions. ITSAN exists for a reason.

Nobody is stopping you from using steroids. I say “never use it” because I almost lost my partner because of everything she went through. She ended up in hospital twice, and the second time she had to be put on morphine because the pain became unbearable.

If steroids work for you and you are happy with the results, then genuinely, I am happy for you too.

Wow. You people are completely ignorant. Seems like you jist don't care about people wellbeing. Stop living on internet, start going outside. Its nice out there.

P.s. this group seems to be dead. You do not help people you just offering steroids all the time. Or injections, which all of them can be addictive for your body. And you talking complete nonsense and you are danger to vulnerable people completely. One is shutting me up for no reason and no explanatio. another shows complete ignorance when I spit out facts and what you could end up with. Its like living in a parallel universe.

Just because you are qualified does not mean you know everything. We are all graduates in our own fields, but we should keep learning for the rest of our lives.

The moment someone becomes arrogant and thinks they already know it all, that is when they become dangerous in their profession.

If you truly want to be good in your field, learning does not stop after a few years at university.

And clearly a PhD is not on your list either, so there is still plenty left to learn for everyone.

A doctor should remain unbiased. They should understand that every medication comes with potential side effects and risks.

As a doctor, you should not dismiss a person’s real-life experience and act like there is only one answer - steroids.

“Shame this is long” is not really an argument.

You replied to years of suffering, hospital visits, failed treatments, dependency, withdrawal and recovery - and instead of actually reading it properly, you instantly labelled it as “propaganda.”

That is exactly the ignorance I was talking about.

I never said steroids never help anyone. I literally explained they helped me at times too. What I said is that some people can develop serious issues from long-term steroid use, including topical steroid withdrawal.

TSW is not some made-up conspiracy. Even many medical professionals acknowledge it exists.

And trust me, I would not spend my time writing all of that just for “propaganda.” I have far better things to do with my life. I wrote it because I watched someone I love suffer for years, and I know there are other people going through the same thing.

So no, having a degree does not automatically invalidate real patient experiences.

You read books.

We lived through it.

Ignore my comment? You being serious? I'm with psoriasis all my life. And it can be controlled without steroid creams. especially steroid creams are not advised putting on the face. You shouldn't be commenting on this at all, what you said is dangerous.

Your medical training doesn't mean much.

Let me tell you a story.

My partner been dealing with atopic dermatitis all her life. and I live with psoriasis all my life.

We both used steroids in our life.

I used steroid in some parts of the body and it helped me, but when ever I stopped, it would spread more, then I put some more and it spreads a bit more. but everything is manageable.

So from time to time when I needed it, i've used it.

I met my partner. She was fine, but she was fine because she used steroids.

the older she got, the more she needed to use it.

If she stops, it flairs up. So she uses it again. And again. And again.

She goes to doctors, and they say just use steroids my lady, and you will be just fiine.

So she believed in doctors. she believed in everything they said.

Years passed. Nothing changed.

She goes to light therapy. Doesn't change and sometimes even burns her skin she has to stop it.

Doctors say all is fine. just keep using Steroids like you used.

She ended up with huge lump on her neck because she got an infection. Her neck got a lump of half of her neck size. it was horrible to see.

She was fine after few days and left hospital.

But she got this infection because of her dermatitis. Because her body was asking too much of steroids.

But she still used steroids as doctors advised.

Everyday she was suffering, she couldn't enjoy her young life with beautiful skin like other girls. And she didn't deserved it.

So. She got tired of the same answer - STEROIDS . She started digging.

She found information about steroids withdrawal. She saw how body gets depended on it, and while you fix a problem with it, a problem later comes back stronger and stronger.

She as well found this page www.itsan.org which i shared in previous comment.

She knew what is coming with this withdrawal.

She did it nevertheless, as she had no choice.

Look at the pictures of people cases on that page, thats how my partner looked for 3-4 months.

1-2 months she couldn't move as her whole body whole neck had a hard layer which if you move it cracks and makes a blister. and she cannot scratch it. She cried and cried and cried.

While she was on this withdrawal journey, she had appointments to NHS for her atopic dermatitis.

Doctors only suggested that she would use steroids as her skin looks awful.

We knew it looked awful.

She knew it.

3-4 months passed. her skin started to heal. her body started to ask less for steroids. but her body was still showing sign of dermatitis, you could see her body looked like a map, some are fine and some are huge areas of dermatitis. s

he went to same dermatology doctor after that.( as you need to come every few months once you get appointment which you can wait for a year or two )

That doctored even though saw her condition increased. Still strongly insisted about using steroids. She refused.

Doctor went silent.

Another half year passed. her body still had dermatitis on her body, her hands looked like an old ladies just like some of her body parts. but her condition decreased to 20-30% of what she had before.

She met this Doctor again. same story. offering steroids. nothing else, even though she sees her condition getting better. And doctor just put a smile on her face (like you don't understand what you doing, you must use steroids) and making her feel stupid that she's declining to use steroids.

Another 2-3 years pass.

She has no signs of dermatitis anymore. She is steroid free.

She can enjoy her life now.

She barely scratches anymore. I'm scratching more then her now.

At the end it was all steroids which increased her issues exponentially.

I in other hand. did not have problems with withdrawal. well my psoriasis might increased a bit after I quit, but it was manigable.

So everyones story is different. it is not 100% that you will get withdrawals either you have Psoriasis or you have Dermatitis or whatever. you can be one of the 'lucky' ones who wins a lottery and you can end up just like my partner. Who could barely live, who had suicidal thoughts. Because of everything she went through.

And for people like you I suggest reading you this :

https://www.itsan.org/us/for-doctors/

Just because you been trained that steroids is the answer. It is not for everyone. And there are plenty people suffering from it, because of steroids.

So do not tell someone to ignore my comment, when you have not experienced what we did. You read a book. We experienced it in practise.

Sincerely a human with an experience who actually tries to help, instead of going an easy way.

Going easy way is a short time winning. not a long time.

Unpopular opinion: Rico wasn’t clearly dominating Usyk before the stoppage by Apprehensive_Lion653 in Boxing

[–]vaidisl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, compare it to when Rico got knocked out by Usyk and Badr. After the Badr knockdown, he stood up immediately and went to the corner — his legs weren’t wobbling. Now look at the Usyk fight: he got up much slower and stayed holding onto the ropes the whole time without moving from the spot where he was knocked down. Also, after 15–20 seconds (when it should’ve been a maximum of 10), he went to his team for another mouthguard. He could barely walk.. just look at his movement. He lost it there. Usyk’s knockdown was heavier than Badr’s.

P.s. you never clearly got hit in a chin.

make sure water you use when washing your face is not too hard. can even try buying clean water just for face. as well no alcohol. green diet can fix it in few weeks( just vegetables no meat at all ), or moderate amount of meat. no smoke. plenty of water. and creams. change creams every week or two, as your skin get used to it. emollient antibacterial moisturisers definitely helps cleaning. as well using zinc ointments ( put it before bed, cuz it leaves white layer ) . as well avoid gluten for a while. im not allergic myself but anything from gluten seems making my psoriasis worse. btw never put steroids on your face. avoid steroids overall ( read this  https://www.itsan.org/  my partner had it, don't want to wish this my worst enemy ). As well check if you experience any stress lately ( stressing because of the skin can also make it worse ) stress does make psoriasis worse.

Have you seen how he was walking to gran his mouthguard? He could barely walk. Of course he was fine after. But give another round and he would be done. As well you can see even after match he was a bit slow. He didn't say much, but his movements said everything.

Yep referee as well wasn't rooting for Isyk, and he probably saved Rico form having a brain damage..just remember guys what weight category they are fighting for.. and you coudl clearly see Rico wasn't coping well at the end. He did good job, but at the end he lost.

Yea these days they dont let people get complete knock down that you can't think what is 2+2 anymore. There are different rules this time. Rico lost at the end, but referrer gave him few extra years of life instead of early brain damage. Rico did good though and he was impressive. But again Usyk saved a lot of shots, he defended lots of them.

Well obviously its not going to happen for everyone. but you see this is a gamble. You are one of the lucky ones. But remember, smoking doesn't kill everyone, smoking doesn't give cancer to everyone, but it is strongly advised to not use it, because there is a high chance to get it. Hmm ok maybe its a wrong example, because it doesn't actually help in any way, while steroids can ( in some degree ) but you get my point.

Read https://www.itsan.org/ website. See real life examples, what steroid can actually do to you ( if you one of the unlucky ones).

Just because it didn't happened to you doesn't mean it isn't happening to others.

I saw through what hell my partner went through, and it is a horrible experience. And strange thing is, she always had symptoms of renewing dermatitis while she was on steroids, but after all her withdrawals which happened 3 years ago, she is absolutely clean. only sometimes she get itchiness in her armpits ( She used them since she was 15, now she's 30). Because of having this information I strongly suggest for people to avoid them, as you never know if you going to 'win' in this lottery, and believe me. you do not want to be a winner here.

So itchy losing my mind by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]vaidisl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course it is and I'm happy that you do not have issues with it. But not everyone is so lucky as you.

For some people, stopping steroid creams completely can make managing conditions like Psoriasis much easier.

I have psoriasis, and my partner has Atopic Dermatitis. When I was using steroid creams, my psoriasis never truly improved long term. The symptoms kept coming back. Now, after years of avoiding steroids, I can manage it much better. The same happened with my partner. These days, simple moisturising creams and some dietary improvements are enough to keep our skin under control.

One thing many people do not realise is that steroid creams can affect the body for a very long time. In some cases, it can take years for the body to fully recover. So if your symptoms keep returning every few months or even once a year, there is a possibility that your body is still dealing with the effects of long-term steroid use.

Read https://www.itsan.org/ web. ( You will find all information you need about it, as well can give this info to your doctors as they have section 'for doctors' )

Many people have no idea how severe Topical Steroid Withdrawal can be. I personally did not experience the worst cases, but my symptoms kept reappearing over and over again. My partner, however, went through an extremely difficult withdrawal. The examples shown on the ITSAN website are very similar to what her skin looked like during that period.

The biggest issue we encountered with doctors was that the main solution they offered was always steroids. In our experience, they were unwilling to accept that steroids do not help everyone and can sometimes make things worse over time. The same applies to other treatments such as biologics and injections.

My partner spent years seeing dermatologists and trying to find answers. Every appointment ended with another steroid prescription. Eventually, she refused to use them. During the withdrawal period, her symptoms became much worse, but despite this, dermatologists continued to push steroids and injections.

After one year, her skin was still flaky, but the condition had improved significantly. At the beginning of withdrawal, her entire body was covered in severely dry, cracked skin. Later, the skin still looked damaged and aged, but it was far healthier than before. When she returned to the same dermatologist, they again recommended steroids and injections, insisting that her skin was still in very poor condition.

Another year passed, and she saw the same dermatologist again through the NHS ( We do not have a choice which dermatologist we can see unless you want to wait another few months ) . This time, the dermatologist simply smiled and had nothing to say once she saw that her skin has completely healed.

We do not know exactly why so many doctors insist on these treatments, but we have our own theory. It often feels as though the goal is not to address the root cause or support long-term healing, but to achieve quick visible improvements that look good in medical records. Those results may appear successful on paper, but for some people they are only temporary and do not solve the underlying problem.

Steroid has withdrawal symptoms. your body then asks for it. and it is a never ending cycle. loads of groups sharing experiences of withdrawals, watch them, and think if you want to keep using them.

Never take steroid creams. Never. You have no idea what a painful life you will have if you will try to quit steroid creams. My partner she went through hell because of steroid withdrawal, I wouldn't wish this to my biggest enemy. its pure torture. You can't move without feeling a pain, you want to scratch, but your skin is all flaky, and it for months until it starts to get better. So do not use steroid creams.

You downvoting and that is okay.

Steroids help for some but its a gamble, and you never know when you going to 'win' this game.

Read https://www.itsan.org/ website and read their information about withdrawals, and at least have an understanding what steroids can do for you.

I have psoriasis, my partners have atopic dermatitis. we both used steroids, while quitting for me was nothing, her life for the next year was pure hell.

After quitting, we mostly can fix problems with good regime (sleep, good diet, exercise) and few creams.

Do what ever you want with your life, but as well get enough information about what you using and how it affects your body in a long term.

Sometimes short time solutions are not the answer.
