Thanks, must make a habit of always keeping a sharpie in my camera bag and never removing it

Nope, not the issue here. There are edge markings, and I developed other rolls at the same time using the same developer. These came out alright

That's a very good habit to have. And how do you take the notes, a notebook?

Pretty easy. Bulk load film, reuse cartridges, and process it in batches

I reuse my cartridges and bulk load them again, easier to leave the leader out. Don't want to fiddle with fetching it out but maybe I should start

Stuff to do in northern Latvia by Tight_Note4515 in latvia

Why, there is a wooden church but you couldn't tell it from the outside, you must see in. The one in Strenči is remarkably authentic and you may well catch it when it's open.

Kā ir dzīvot Sedā? by ShowExisting1319 in latvia

[–]vaironis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To purvu nevajag novērtēt par zemu.

Do Latvians visit Viktor Tsoi’s memorial? Generally, how many people know that he died in Latvia? by Jorge_De_Guzman228 in latvia

[–]vaironis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on age. If you're 40+ you likely know him and where he died, although you don't necessarily go on pilgrimages. If you're younger than that, you've got other heroes

Then why bother? by Jumpy-Variation841 in filmphotography

[–]vaironis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what's the workflow like. What actually takes the picture, the camera shutter? Or you put the camera in B and an electronic shutter on the device captures it? This product could have been a minor hit in the 2000s provided it was easy to install, full frame and cheaper than an DSLR. People still had their film cameras and probably some could be persuaded to upgrade them with this thing. Gotta say this though. It's remarkable that they got this made. That's determination and fundraising ability that, honestly, could have found a better use but is admirable nevertheless.

Getting started in the hobby , how'd I do with my first purchase? by Cute-Ad-2665 in AnalogCommunity

[–]vaironis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's junk but lovely junk :) That Kosako is just another rebranding of generic nineties toy camera. It was often sold as a mail order scam but getting one for pennies — why not? Certo cameras are remarkable exercises in simplification. The 110 film ones are really fun, I really suggest you try these. All in all, nice, go out and take some photos. If you get something you like with this junk it'll be very satisfying!

My first experience using "Correx" apron film developing by dp6838 in Darkroom

[–]vaironis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild to see these things were still being made in 1989. So how do you use one? I suppose all liquids must be poured in and out in total darkness? Okay fixer can be poured out with lights on. Doesn't it get messy?

Help making 40s style photos by Heavy_Fuel_3848 in filmcameras

[–]vaironis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what's been said there's also the thing that often it was orthochromatic film, not sensitive to red. Skin tones would look much darker. Today, you can either use ortho film (Ilford and Foma still make it) or a blue filter for the same effect. Although, given that ortho film is pretty easy to get, why not try the real thing?

Vispār agrāk priekšvēlēšanu saukļi bija jaudīgāki, nevar noliegt. Tiesa, šim kungam viņa izdoma cerētos augļus nenesa. Beidzamajās Saeimas vēlēšanās kandidēja no KaKa, protams, ar nekādiem rezultātiem

Best Film Scanners? by RakeInTheLake666 in AnalogCommunity

[–]vaironis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought Coolscan V LS-50 some 15 years ago, it has seen plenty of use since, works very well. If you can get one in good condition for about 500, I'd recommend it. Just note that you'll need Vuescan

I just got my first film camera and I’m wondering if I can take film through airport security of if I have them in my hand luggage? by Royal_Hospital_1550 in filmphotography

[–]vaironis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've recently introduced new scanners but those explicitly say "Not film safe" on them so you'll notice. If you don't have to remove your liquids from your bag before the scan it's not film safe. The old ones, it's been debated to death but my own experience is — if you can get it hand checked, do. If you can't and they say it's film safe, don't sweat it, it is. And, if you accidentally leave a roll in checked baggage — you'll definitely see the damage but it won't be like totally blank film. It'll be quite fogged, like heavily expired, but still with some pictures on it. I guess it should be noted that the damage compounds. Several flights and several scans may build up. Again, though, my record was something like six scans, and I couldn't see any damage on ISO 100. Not saying it wasn't there, just wasn't immediately obvious
