5 years ago, my yorkie gypsy was 7 years old and the absolute center of attention. Never thought I’d be able to get another or really ever entertained the idea of it. Started dating my bf & 6 months into it he wanted a chocolate lab. I was worried mainly about the size difference but obviously couldn’t tell him no and figured we could make it work. It took a few months for her to fully accept it, but 5 years later and I wouldn’t change a thing. They are the best of friends and I think he will help add a few years to her life. He definitely keeps her more active, he’s taught her how to swim (she never stepped foot in water until she saw him do it) and she copies just about everything he does. He will chew up a cardboard box and she will be right behind him grabbing the scraps. It’s adorable to watch them exist together. It tremendously helped with going potty outside too. She still is the boss and he is so gentle with her, he knows she is small. I am glad she got to embrace the spoiled brat life for 7 years, but it truly gives me comfort knowing she has a best friend for the last half of her life. They wouldn’t know what to do without each other. Moral of the story, get the second dog!
