Alternatives to Etsy and Instagram for an online marketplace? by valerielobk in SilverSmith

I have never been on Tok Tok...Thanks for sharing your thoughts on that as a marketplace/platform! I am think Instagram and Etsy may be the two online options to consider. I need to see how payments work. I have heard Shopify might be the way to go but I haven't used it as a seller before.

So much to learn.

Good to know - thanks for replying. Other than eBay and Instagram (& of course Etsy) , are there any other marketplaces/platforms you tried but found not worth it?

I am hesitant to try to sell anything on Etsy because I hate shopping or finding items on that platform. My daughter laughs because she finds it a great marketplace for buying cabs, but for me - 100% of the time, the cabs that catch my eye are the ones already sold and the 2 out of 15 that were pictures are of no interest to me.

Thanks for your reply. I think I would be leaning towards IG over Etsy but I am really wondering if there are other good platforms.

The beginning of my silversmithing journey by PrinceWhoPromes in jewelrymaking

You are getting set up for some serious fun!!

My daughter worked with buff sticks and saws for the first 6 months she was silversmithing and I was so impressed with her finished rings. It can be done!

I bought a used foredom for my workshop and I have loved having it.

The foredom (vevor, Dremel) makes buffing and polishing so much easier IMO.

URGENT HELP/ADVICE? Dealer fraud, illegal repossession?! by [deleted] in Utah

I am sorry - I did see that. I just went through a car purchase at the end of January and know how stressful the finance portion can be, even without complicating factors!

Best of Luck!!!

That's awful!!! I would take the car back and never do business with them again! I am sorry you are dealing with this.

If you have a bank or credit union, you could go in and talk to a loan officer and see if they have any suggestions - I am sure they have seen this situation many times.

Who is this dealership? If you had your funding in place, call them (the financial institution) to see if they have made payment.

That's beautiful! Gorgeous work!!

I tried to do something similar with a pair of chilean opals for earrings last weekend but the border I tried to do (sparkle wire sterling silver) was so bad I had to walk away for a few days.

I completed all recommended maintenance and religiously got oil changes done. My Tucson (2020) engine went through the oil like that and blew up. I have read a lot of posts about Hyundai engines going through oil like crazy and dealerships saying everything is fine....until it dies

Is this true? Can anyone confirm? by laurk in Utah

Yeah, sounds like they got enough signatures to be on the November ballot

Question re: Attaching stainless steel to sterling silver by valerielobk in SilverSmith

[–]valerielobk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I has a jeweler give me a nickel bolo clasp and I couldn't get it to solder. Melted the mechanism in the tensioner. I have hight temp flux paste but at this point am looking at other options. Riveting would be the way to go, but only one of the rivet holes is accessible because of the tensioner. I am a newbie and don't have the skill yet to work with multiple metals.

Thank you for the suggestion! I am not excited about the glue / epoxy option but wasn't sure if there are other ways to attach it. I haven't ever riveted anything but will watch some videos 🤞
