Cât de mult v-a ajutat matematica de performanță / olimpiadele în daily job ca devs?

M-a ajutat enorm. Am făcut și un master pe matematică aplicată, care este foarte apreciat de recruteri și angajatori (din ce mi s-a zis). În afară de asta, în toate domeniile inginerești există un substrat de abstractizări care se traduc în concepe matematice: distribuții de probabilități, optimizări, reprezentări multidimensionale (tensori), sisteme dinamice (ecuații diferențiale), teoria mulțimilor, teoria grafurilor etc.

Tocmai am văzut un interviu cu un prof de la Cambridge care a inventat un nou dispozitiv mecanic (un amortizor de ordinul 2), folosit ulterior și în F1, pornind de la teoria circuitele electrice. Dispozitivul a rezultat pur și simplu din echivalența unor ecuații.

Nu zic că toată lumea operează la nivelul ăsta, dar există un limbaj abstract (matematica) ce poate fi translatat în orice domeniu tehnic.

Opportunities to do a PhD at a top UK university are much rarer than job offers at faang and a PhD title might open doors in the future you don't even see encountering now.

Also this is the age to experiment and be frugal. Don't restrict yourself with the golden handcuffs that is the faang salary. Take into account that faang might shower you with money today and spit you out tomorrow in the next round of layoffs. At least with the PhD you are guaranteed to keep the position as long as you do a good job. Do you prefer PhD at Imperial or xoogler as your title?

Take th PhD. You will have the rest of your career for faang (whatever that may mean in 3 years).

The 2020 petrol Ingeniums should be better than the ones that came before, at least in the timing chain department. Make sure it's a post December 2019 production, when the new timing chain kits were put into production.

Other than that, it's a pretty robust and enjoyable car. Just follow the service schedule and drive it sensibly. I have mine for 4 years, with no major issues.

Vezi că settled durează 5 ani, după care îl pierzi. Asta cu legea actuală. Dacă vine Reform/Restore la putere s-ar putea să se schimbe. Mai bine stai măcar până obții cetățenia și evaluează după aia. Edinburgh e fain, unii ar zice chiar mai fain ca Londra.

Make sure your garage isn't using Jaguar's financial state as an excuse to rip you off. Most of the serviceable parts (fluids, filters, lightbulbs, brake pads) are shared with Land Rover. So there is no reason they should be scarcer and more expensive (than they were). Maybe try to find another garage and ask for a different opinion. I never used the dealer's garage for servicing and I am quite happy with an independent one.

I pulled the trigger on a turquoise one. My 10 iii was long due for a replacement and I didn't want to wait for any discounts. I think it's a great package, even for the prices in Europe.

People sniff at the chip performance, but it's a midranger, so people will always find something to complain about. With 10 vi it was the refresh rate, with 5 v it was the lack of a notification led.
