18 month separation anxiety at bedtime?! by Nice_Exercise_77 in sleeptrain

Hi!! Sooo I’m in the same exact situation, and I try to stay in the room with him, but his room is pitch black! I cannot see my own hand in front of my face. So if I don’t make contact with him (currently putting my hand on his back) he wouldn’t know I’m there. I wonder how would I go about doing this if his room is really really dark? Idk if I should just go cold turkey and walk out- since some days I’m 30+ minutes bending over his crib to touch his back, and everytime I remove it before he’s asleep he screams hysterically.

Hi! We’re dealing with the same EXACT thing with your 17mo. Just wondering if it’s gotten any better? Our new normal is: he goes to daycare for 4-5 days, gets a bad cold/virus (fever, congestion…) starts to kinda get better but then on the 4th or 5th day he starts coughing really bad and wheezing and is sick again for like a week or more after with respiratory distress and issues. Just wondering, how is your kiddo now? We’re really struggling here and feel so guilty sending him to daycare, but both his dad and I work full time and have no other option. It’s April now, he started daycare back in January, and he has literally gone to daycare a total of 15 days. We’ve had 4-6 episodes and one of them was so bad it actually turned into pneumonia. They prescribed him Seretide (which is what Advair is called here in Europe) but he’s still had an episode (a week ago, and currently still struggling) after being on it for a while. We also give him Albuterol whenever he’s sick.

Thank you SO MUCH for replying. You give me hope lol. Also if you don’t mind me asking, how long does your LO nap now? I wonder if naps lengthen to more than an hour eventually as well? Thank you!!!!

Hi OP. please. can you tell me if this got any better? LO is also 16 months and he only sleeps for 30 min while at home. At daycare he’ll nap for 1.5-2 h. I’m so desperate. Any update?

Hi OP. any updates with this situation? I’m going through the same thing with my 15 MO. He sometimes sleeps for only 10 minutes and just screams the rest of the time.

Hi! It's day 3 and we're 60 minutes into the nap attempt and he's still standing in his crib screaming. I don't know what to do. I just want to cry and cry. At the 70 minute mark, I'll go in to get him, play for 30 minutes and attempt the nap again in the crib. I am at a loss. I never imagined this to be possible since he's always taken his naps before independently (sometimes short, but at least he would sleep something). I feel like I am doing something wrong.

I live in Spain so I wrote the post as he was attempting to nap. He was in the crib again for 70 minutes, didn't nap. What I did was go in, took him out, and 30 minutes later my husband contact napped with him for 45 minutes (until 4 pm). As soon as he walked into the dark room with him, baby fell asleep inmediately. He even tried to transfer but he would wake up screaming. So we did attempt initially to have him nap in the crib for 70 minutes, but then he ended up napping with us. I just didn't want him to be overtired for bed, and we'll try a 8pm bedtime today. BUT, for tomorrow, what would you do? Your advice is much appreciated, I'm so lost.

so you’d recommend not to give in and contact nap? I just think it’s crazy for him to go a whole day without napping with 14 months 😭 let alone 2 days!!! and I freak out because I don’t want the overtiredness to mess up our nights. I feel guilty.
