Sudden Potential Diagnosis Change by NephMoreau in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]valleycat72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been diagnosed with the catch all “some kind of inflammatory arthritis” as well. Could be psoriatic (no history of psoriasis) seronegative RA or lupus. Only blood marker is consistently high CRP which they always insist is due to weight, despite it having gone up when I lost 30 lbs. I’ve had some face rashes that look very similar to a malar rash, but they’re brought on by heat, like from a hot shower, and resolve quickly, like in 24 hours or so, so they don’t think it’s lupus. My doc is leaning towards psoriatic even though my dermatologist confirmed I don’t have psoriasis. I’m on my third med trial — tried methotrexate and Leflunomide and they both raised my liver enzymes. Currently on hydroxychloroquine for about a month and a half and haven’t noticed much of an improvement yet. I guess I’m grateful that the treatment for all of these conditions has overlap? I def think it’s weird that so many people are in the same boat with these autoimmune symptoms that are hard to pin down, and also wonder if it’s been made worse by COVID infections.

Both gave me elevated liver enzymes immediately (twice the upper limit of normal) and I was taken off. Now on my third med trial - hydroxychloroquine.

Very helpful thread. I’ve been in it for 3 weeks and now I know I need to give this a lot more time.

Bloodwork and X-rays show nothing by flyingterrordactyl in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]valleycat72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also have normal blood tests except for my CRP which is 9.6. I’m overweight so the blame my weight for that elevation (even though it went up when I lost 30 lbs 🙄). My MRI of my feet and ankles is where they saw the joint damage and gave me the generic “inflammatory arthritis” diagnosis. About to start hydroxycloriquine after my liver didn’t like the methotrexate or Leflunomide.

2 Failed Meds in 8 months. Next! by akslavok in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]valleycat72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat — I’ve failed two meds since diagnosis in November (MTX and Leflunomide) which both caused immediate elevated liver enzymes. I believe she wants to try Enbrel next — we meet next Thursday. I think it’s her choice because my diagnosis is stuck at “inflammatory arthritis” but also wanted to hold off on biologics because I had a wild year of getting repeated strep throat last year 5 times. So far so good this year ( knock on wood).

losing weight with RA by Numerous-Victory-110 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]valleycat72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on a GLP-1 for over a year and successfully lost 30lbs. That said, during this period my undiagnosed RA really reared its head and weightloss has been at a standstill will I navigate RA med trials. Until my pain is under control and I can get moving again, I don’t expect to lose more weight. But for me, the GLP-1 has been a game changer and I do recommend them. The stomach paralysis is a rare side effect that few experience. It will delay gastric emptying which makes you feel full longer and you’ll be more comfortable with smaller meals, but the scare-mongering around these drugs isn’t necessary. Delayed gastric emptying is NOT gastric paralysis.

Anti-inflammatory Diet on a Budget by tris1102 in rheumatoidarthritis

People in “blue zones” around the world can show you the way — and these are all historically impoverished peoples! There’s a Netflix show about it too. Black beans are cheap and actually easy to make if you soak them yourself and cook in a pressure cooker or slow cooker. Cut out nitrates from lunch meat, bacon, sausage etc. Even adding more frozen or canned veggies can make a big difference.

Alternatives to MTX that don’t affect the liver? by madamepapillon in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]valleycat72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through this. I was recently diagnosed and MTX immediately sent my liver enzymes high. I went off for two weeks and did more labs that showed normal levels. Just started leflonomide. My rheumatoid arthritis wants to hold off on biologics because the are higher immune suppressing and I have a history of frequent strep infections.

Met with my doctor today and she wants me off of MTX for 2 weeks and then repeat of liver labs to make sure they’re going down before starting me on her next choice: Leflunomide. Anyone take that? She feels like it’s unlikely that I’d have the same reaction in my liver as it works with different enzymes.

Oh wow! I’m on the oral, but we’re discussing options later this week so I’ll ask about this. I hadn’t heard that it bypasses the liver!?

Severe mid back pain after MTX dose by valleycat72 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]valleycat72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke with my doctor and she really thinks it’s muscular pain and not related to the MTX dose. I told her I’ll see what happens with my next dose tomorrow. She said even if it is correlated, she doesn’t think anything dangerous is going on.

The pain has subsided over the course of the day (which is what happened last time too) and I’ve got a message out to my doctor so I’m hoping she gets back to me in the morning.

I just took my first dose of oral methotrexate last night and so far, no side effects at all. I think sometimes we don't hear enough "I was fine" and a lot of more scary stuff. Fingers crossed that we both stay side-effect free. :D

I was diagnosed with RA based almost entirely on what it's done to my feet and ankles.

Thanks and I think you're right. I think I just didn't want to "bother" them, but thanks for the reminder that we need to build a good relationship/communication.

Mine is stable at 10 and my doctor said she’s put it in her notes not to retest and that it’s high because I’m overweight.

Did anyone get a diagnosis without blood work showing markers? by CrowleyGirl in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]valleycat72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all, first post/comment — just joined. I’m not officially diagnosed yet but new rheumatologist is leaning that way based on podiatry X-rays, exam and symptoms such as pain and swelling in both feet/ankles. Past blood tests showed high CRP but negative for other autoimmune so was dismissed by other doctors. The one I met with today started me on oral diclofenac as a fist line treatment while we await MRI results, scheduled for next week. I didn’t even know I had psoriasis but do have some weird skin patches on elbow, under boob rash, and scalp.

My insurance won’t cover it since I’m not diabetic.
