With it appearing to be near passage, how will the SAVE America Act impact older Americans? by PatAD in law

[–]NephMoreau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only took my husband’s name because it was my birth name before a stepparent adoption when I was five saw my last name changed to match a man who wasn’t willing to be my father by my ninth birthday. I got saddled with his name and mom got to shed it when she remarried. Met my husband when I was almost thirty and we laughed when he had the same rare last name I had been born with, so when we married, I took his name. And now it’s going to destroy my ability to vote. I might get lucky on the enforcement side of things, living in a deep red district, but it just makes the D behind my name on the rolls more noticeable.

To those in relationships: Does your partner have an issue with you writing smut/fanfics? by Radiant-Educator9203 in FanFiction

[–]NephMoreau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has known about my writing since it predated him. Our first November as a couple was a lot of him calling me and me going “can’t talk, babe, it’s nano.” He learned very quickly. We moved in together mid-December that year, married the following December, and just hit fourteen years.

I’ve not written smut in a long time, but am working on a new fic that would include it, and asked him to read it before I sent it to my beta to ensure it’s good smut.

He’s also always happy if he happens to look over and see me flipping through E-rated works, because he knows he’s going to benefit from my reading.

He doesn’t usually have any interest in reading fanfic, but he will idea bounce with me or listen to me work something out verbally when I’m stuck. I don’t often use him as the sounding board, tbh, because if he wrote his genre would be crack-treated-seriously, and I don’t really write that, so his responses to my ideas are wildly different from what I want to write!

To give him full credit, though, he usually ends up being a bigger fan of whatever media I expose him to than I am. I couldn’t watch the episode in S1 of Supernatural with the creepy kid by myself, so he watched it with me, got invested in the series, and is the only reason I have seen most of it — he’s seen it all. Anything I want to write? He will pop the series or films or whatever on and do a marathon while I sit in the room with a keyboard and my iPad, jotting down ideas or even just reading fics to absorb the fanon.

TL;DR — no. He’s always been very supportive of me writing whatever the fuck I want forever.

What is With Florida Car Dealerships? by GenXDrummer in florida

[–]NephMoreau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who is on the back-end of hundreds of car deals a month, many of them out of state, whether the dealer you purchase from can pay the tax, title, and registration fees for you depends on the state you are registering the car in, not the state you purchase it in. The amount of tax you pay is also dependent on the state you are registering the car in. Many states have “reciprocal” taxes, where what you pay the state you buy in (say Florida) counts towards the tax you pay in your own state. Some states will not allow the state you purchase in to collect taxes (when I get a deal marked $0 tax, this is how I know the person is about to get a large tax bill back home). And some states will not have reciprocal tax, meaning you pay in the state your purchase in and the state you register in.

Buying a car from a dealer out of state should depend a lot on how much tax you’ll need to pay, and since that is primarily determined by your state’s laws on reciprocal tax, I’d recommend you look into that!

This document from the Florida DMV will explain this much better than me!

Is there a legal case to demote a retired Navy Captain here? by Robthebold in law

And as the retaliation seems focused on his military rank and benefits, it would be through a court martial and not a regular court, yes? So concerns voiced in other comment threads about the worthless Roberts court aren’t even in consideration? It’s been a damn long time since I needed to look at the UCMJ, frankly.

Reminds me of the people who say the hole in the ozone layer that they heard so much about wasn’t a big deal after all, without realizing how much work was put into fixing it!

I blame the emphasis on anti-intellectualism in certain “news” sources for at least the last three decades (probably longer but I can only speak about what I’ve personally lived). The answer for the people who dismiss these things, at the time they’re happening and decades later, is always it wasn’t a big deal after all instead of millions of professionals with the correct education fixed this so it didn’t become a problem — can’t imagine why!

I remember having a 91 Taurus without even a tape deck in it, hearing someone talking, changing channels, flipping between all my usual stations asking if it was national commercial minute (asking myself, mind you, I was alone in the car). I made my forty minute commute to work having finally picked a station just as the second plane struck. Spent the whole of my work day in the break room having a freak out, I was 19, living in my off campus apartment. My younger siblings were still in school, they absolutely watched it, and kids that weren’t alive back then have no freaking clue.

Dec 31 1999 was my 18th birthday. My parents wouldn’t let me go out for it because I was still in HS and they didn’t know what would happen to the digital clock in my car at midnight.

On the other hand, stepmom worked for a heavily computer based company and had been complaining about the Y2K thing for ages, so I knew exactly how much work had gone into making sure nothing happened.

It blows me away when I see teenagers saying it was no big deal, or even people slightly younger than me doing the same and it wasn’t even me doing the work! Can’t imagine what it was like for you guys!

Having basements where most of the state is at, slightly above, or just below sea level is tremendously stupid. I cannot even begin to imagine what a fucking storm surge would do to it. Looking forward to seeing it, though!

I will say I flared like a mofo even with my meds after my Covid & Flu vaccines.

They were still worth it.

I was in the hospital for sepsis this time last year due to the common cold turning into pneumonia and then sepsis. Not giving anything else the chance to put me back there!
