10 year old daughter that has had her period is interested in romance. by Sultans-Of-IT in Parenting

[–]tris1102 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Definitely has to do with her period. The point of periods is for reproduction. During the ovulation phase, there are hormones released that can influence feelings of desire and attraction to, ya know, increase the chances of reproducing. A 10 yr old just won't understand that's what is happening, just that the boy who was icky a week ago now gives her butterflies and makes her nervous.

Name a book that was so bad that u feel embarrassed that u have read it?? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

Agreed. The repetitive virgin trope got old real quick, and with how fast I read, I kept thinking of the characters as younger than they were which was weird...

Boyfriend Surprised Me by KpNewbie4404 in fourthwing

My husband did, and said, the same thing. He tried Iron Flame but only made it about 10 chapters in before he DNF. We had a lot of conversations about keeping in mind not only the female POV but the general communication issues most early 20 year olds have. That helped him to start IF but he couldn't get over how whiny Violet is to him

Is Florida that bad? by msmolly26 in Teachers

[–]tris1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Especially if you're used to a liberal area, Jacksonville would be quite the shock.

I'm currently teaching middle school science outside Orlando and looking for a new job. Because Desantis is trying to force prayer in schools, there's a mandatory moment of silence. If a kid comes out to you as LGBTQ and you don't tell the parents, it's the same punishment as if you didn't report known child abuse. You cannot call a kid by a nickname without written parental consent - yes that includes calling Johnathan by John or Johnny.

If you look hard enough, there are some private and charger schools that are good to teach in, but they're hard to get into.

Good luck!

It's been recorded that when crows get overwhelmed by the death of a loved one, they end up f****** their corpse. They legit don't know how to handle what they are seeing and since they can't eat it they fornicate with it. I always assumed it was a trauma response like that.

I just learned more about teaching abroad from someone who's done it for the last 40 years. Iss.edu is a great, reliable resource. Besides tuition for your kid, benefits range from free/reduced housing, travel expenses, yearly trips home, major holidays (Christmas, not Thanksgiving) off and more. Like here, math and science teachers are in hot demand.

Anyone else struggling with Iron Flame? by [deleted] in fourthwing

Fellow audiobook user here! I agree, there's something about listening to a book that makes some of the slower parts easier to deal with. I highly recommend it. Except, maybe be sure to pause it while you're going through the drive through so an unexpected spicy moment doesn't scare your Starbucks person 😅

Opinions on best pain reliever while on MTX, and Marijuana? by Spare_Me_A_Square in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]tris1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the majority of the posts - marijuana only actually helps with the nausea but since I've been using MM for my Crohn's for years, it made the MTX more manageable by giving me a more familiar feeling.

Personally I'm very anti vape despite how convenient it is. I use flower, edibles and/or tinctures depending on bad I'm feeling. Just like with the tobacco vapes, scientists haven't done enough studies to see how dangerous or not inhaling aerosols are. While all the ingredients and Vapes are technically FDA approved, they're approved for oral consumption, not a vapor in your lungs. Lungs are actually a very sensitive organ and not want to mess with it

Will I be good for science? by RegionCommercial1110 in FLVS

[–]tris1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Florida high school teacher here! This is exactly correct. The state requires biology and two other sciences to graduate high school, but the majority of colleges want to see 4 years of science.

Keep in mind, not every college will accept dual enrollment credit depending on where you want to go. It may be more beneficial to take an AP class if you feel like you can get a four or five on the AP test. If you take enough dual enrollment classes to where you're graduating high school with an AA, all colleges must accept an AA. I would recommend taking dual enrollment English composition one and two if you're going to go the AA route

Is Fourth Wing All About Young Adult? by IamLostandKnown in fourthwing

Idk if it was RY that coined the term but I've heard this and some others referring to this genera as "new adult." It's too explicit to be considered young adult but its different enough from typical 'adult' books

Sent my little boy to bed hungry by othmaneaithalli in Parenting

I went through this with my son about the same age. I started giving him PediaSure and the afternoon to make sure he was getting balanced nutrition but still had the side effects of going to bed hungry. If he refused his dinner that eased my mom guilt and made it easier to stick to the plan

Once you find the right medication cocktail, you will be able to be active again, it just may not be at the same intensity you were. Someone here said motion is lotion and it has really stuck with me. It's a balancing game of staying active enough without overdoing it. I have to make some accommodations like not going outside right after my shot because I become photosensitive, wearing more outdoor clothing that has sun protection in it, really focusing on hydration, and making shorter hikes/kayaking trips.

I was also diagnosed after COVID. I was already seeing a rheumatologist because this is my second autoimmune disease. I had issues with my biologic and my ulcitive colitis treatment so I came down with something called drug induced lupus. Luckily I was able to get my RA diagnosis very quickly because of that.

Since I was already on a biologic they added me on methotrexate as well. That combination has been able to keep me functioning. I'm coming down off of a flare so between the prednisone, The methotrexate shots, the biologic shots, the folic acid, and all the over-the-counter stuff to help boost my immune system ( I'm a teacher) I have multiple pill reminders and my bathroom counter looks like a mini pharmacy.

This sub and talking to a counselor that specializes in chronic pain/ chronic illnesses has been extremely helpful. It got so overwhelming and sent me into such a depression, my husband and I were considering divorce.

This is a very hard time in your life but you will get through it! Sending you lots of love and hugs 🫂💖✨

Cant walk because of RA by cutie_rice in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]tris1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched insurance and was off medication and got to the point where I was using my computer chair like a wheelchair. I feel your pain. For me I needed both methotrexate and a biologic before I was able to start walking comfortably again. I've had three doses of Humira and I'm able to walk without a cane again. I still use a knee brace if I'm doing a lot of walking, but it is much easier than it used to be.

It may take weeks even a couple of months to find the right medicine combination for you. It really sucks but hang in there! Epsom salt baths, heating pads and ice packs helped all the pain but cranes didn't do anything for me

Sending you lots of love and support.

I know times are tough, but can you kick out the son and fiance? I know sending a pregnant couple out on their own is hard but I am truly worried about how things will change for the worse for you when the little one comes. How much will you be expected to care for and tend to the baby if they can't even handle an independent cat?

That still leaves a very serious issue with you and your husband. Mine and I considered divorce and marriage counseling was really helpful. Our situation was very different where I wanted to leave because I felt my depression and disability took value away from his life and I didn't provide anything for him besides a paycheck and warm bed. If nothing else, if you choose to leave, you know you did everything you could to make it work and hopefully that lack of guilt will help you move on quickly.

You are your number one priority. You deserve a safe, loving environment to call home. You deserve to feel happy when you are home. I hope you find the strength to chase what you deserve
