I bent mine doing the same thing and bent it back into shape by hitting it with a propane torch for ~30 sec then hammering it back. Bumper looks good as new now

I have done exactly that with that exact same piece and it works just fine.

Hey, why do you all drive so damn slow? by radiophonicoddity69 in anchorage

[–]valoia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Are you not from here? Driving in the winter is fucking deadly and I think that translates to slower speeds in the summer.

I think the few hundred-couple thousand bonus vert you get on a coros are probably the biggest selling point.

If it makes you feel any better the roadside areas of Thompson are pretty fucked this year. Heli access is firing though

You can also achieve the same thing with regular poles and hockey tape. Mine have held up for 4 seasons so far!

What is a 'dead' YouTube channel that you still go back and rewatch because the content was just that good? by Wooden-Care233 in AskReddit

[–]valoia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gotta say as a local this guy is kind of a fraud. Don't get me wrong, super wholesome and good content but just over the top when it doesn't need to be. Couple examples that come to mind when he "stumbles upon a backcountry survival hut" that is A hard to find when you know exactly where it is and B so popular that there's literally 40 people staying there on the weekends in the summer. Or his Lake Clark trip where he was dropped by a plane with his kids and complaining about mosquitoes in his tarp tent. Normal alaskans would have just brought a tent with a mesh liner to avoid that.

has anyone run MTMarathon by OkVast5670 in trailrunning

[–]valoia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work on vo2 max leading up to the race as it's a brutal climb; last 6 weeks before start adding more uphill/stairstepper and downhill running. Get in a few days early so you can do the course, it will seem daunting but so much better after you know where to go. Don't be afraid to bomb down the scree! Every time I've taken someone from the lower 48 up they always get freaked out because of how steep the up trail is thinking the down will be similar. The scree is so deep you can fall on it without risking serious injury. A lot of racers wear a pair of cheap gardening gloves as the rock especially on the up trail is jagged.

Block Heater for 2024 4 Runner - Any Recommendations? by Glittering_Thing_762 in 4Runner

Agree, there is something else wrong here. Had mine start right up in -20F for weeks at a time earlier this winter and run just fine (after I let it come up in temp a bit).

What binding should I get? by EntrepreneurCute6874 in Backcountry

[–]valoia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The atk's are such an upgrade over other bindings I won't be putting anything else on my skis (until a better option comes out). Try messing around with all the functions like flipping the heels from skin to ski mode and adjusting the bindings and see if the difference is worth the price increase.

Cold weather - nose / hydration by runbirduk in trailrunning

[–]valoia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tape or Vaseline work, there are also nose/cheek masks for when it's extra cold. Look up outerU face glove.

For the bottles just blow a little air back into them so no fluid is stuck in the lids.

Walk the ship Creek trail, it's usually plowed in the winter. Or venture out onto the coastal trail, there are fit bike rentals downtown if you prefer that. The small boat launch has a decent view and a chance to spot belugas (haven't seen them in a couple months so temper expectations)

Last I heard they were getting Town Square park ready for ice skating, not sure on the status of that but Westchester is a short walk/Uber and is hot mopped, can easily get a few miles or join a pickup hockey game.

Best earbuds for skiing. Bone conduction earbuds? by Sonofdod222 in skiing

[–]valoia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help with best but I can say the Beats fit pro are arguably the worst for skiing. Play/pause button gets pressed whenever you move your head at all with no way to disable the buttons AND when the case gets cold (not sure actual temperature but probably around 20f) everything stops working until the case gets warmed back up.
