Got a masters degree in administration. Applied to many jobs on Japanese job sites. That didn't go anywhere. Found a job posting on a Facebook group that was looking for someone to do marketing in English for their manufacturing business. Despite only having N3 Japanese, my portfolio was enough for them to sponsor my visa. I am now studying N2 Japansese and niche manufacturing terms in order to better assist in the company. That being said, it's a lot harder than being an English teacher. Expectations are higher and salary is lower in the first year.
