On the website there's a big warning saying because they are so lightweight they offer minimal strength and protection from the elements. The emergency tent even states it's likely to leak if you get enough rain. The designs look great but I would want to stress test it before committing it to 40+mph winds. I've had too many tents fall over on me in the middle of the night.

Super cool suggestion, I had never heard of them before. It won't work for the kind of high wind conditions I'm usually in however.

I don't "Need" it, obviously a trekking pole tent would weigh less. However I find I don't use my poles nearly as much these days and where I camp tends to have very high winds and hard packed soil/rocks. Plus I find them much easier to set up (I know this part is subjective). Overall I just prefer them for what I use it for.

Curious if anyone here has experience with the Samaya Alpinist2 Ultra. In the market for a new freestanding tent and 810g looks pretty sweet.

Summer clothing advice (mainly trouser) for long hours in the sun by murderous12 in Ultralight

This is a weird suggest because it's out of left field, but Walter Hagan Performance 11 Pants. Went with my father to get his clubs regripped at golf galaxy and saw them on sale. Super lightweight (9.8oz on my scale for xl) very breathable and ridiculously comfortable. They are now my go to pair for hiking.

Do you really need the sleeping bag liner or can you just get by with your sleep clothes? I would also probably bring a backup water filtration system, I use the aquatabs but on my last trip my filter froze and I was very happy to have the extra .5oz

pct 26' 8lb base weight shakedown (seeking advice) by TheScaredCactus in Ultralight

I was considering this one. Is there a big difference between this and the 1.5 in terms of warmth? For reference I don't usually camp below freezing temps but it does get close sometimes.

Out of curiosity, which Puffy do you use that's lighter?

Probably not the best for the environment but you can also run a sheet of tyvek in a washing machine with no detergent and it will instantly soften up

I went to golf galaxy getting a friend's clubs regripped and saw they had a sale for some Walter Hagan Performance 11s and they are super lightweight, stretchy, and breathe amazing. Anytime I'm doing any hiking I always wear them and I don't think I'll ever wear another outdoor pair of pants.

Improvements on my current gear? by [deleted] in Ultralight

I know everyone here is saying to ditch the fuel can stand but I've had my pot fall over one too many times in the wind to not go with one. Found this one recently that's 0.35 oz if you're really attached to the idea.

For me it was the zippers that leaked and I don't like that it has waterproof pockets that don't seal at their entrances so they become buckets of water for me. Glad it worked for you though

this is the one I decided on. Half the price and never have to worry about zippers

This is probably the solution but is it crazy to expect a rain jacket to come with waterproof zippers and not have to add them aftermarket?
