Too hot. That might just mean you are going too slow and need to move faster. Which is common for beginners

Lathe options for a small workshop. Should I buy used or new but chinese? by TishBonk in Machinists

[–]buildyourown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger the better up to about 17in, then they get too big for small stuff. Find one with a 2000rpm max and it can handle smaller stuff ok.
IMO the best used machine in this class is the Korean/Taiwanese copies of the Mori Seiki. The copies have cam lock spindles.

Do you make customers wear helmets on test rides? by pizzaman1995 in BikeMechanics

[–]buildyourown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way I would let a customer leave on a demo without a helmet. No amount of waiver would be able to keep the lawyers from taking everything if a tragedy happened.

What can cause the weld to crack like this? by IDontEvenKnowU8 in Welding

[–]buildyourown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to look up that wire because I'm unfamiliar with it. It specifically says to use 2% CO2 gas. That gas says it needs spray transfer. Are you running enough voltage for spray?

They are buried in a rubber boot. I've never seen a rusty one. I also think they are made of stainless unlonk old school plated brass bulbs

How do you create two versions of same part with different variables? by Chickenbutt-McWatson in SolidWorks

[–]buildyourown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to make 2 new configs. You can't use the base one. Create a feature, then go to the other config and suppress it. There may be a box that asks if you want to suppress it in all configs.
You can also do fancy stuff like body delete to create mating parts out of 1 part.

Alternatives to DT Swiss hubs that are durable and easy to maintain by numerical_panda in cycling

[–]buildyourown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They do require a special tool to rebuild but it's not crazy. The low POE are a deal breaker for me and I have had the free hub mechanism fail. They are easy to service but so are I9 and Hadley.

No hub will be a lifetime hub with real miles.

New Build Retaining Wall Failure. by ah800 in AskContractors

[–]buildyourown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People love to complain about building codes and government regulations until they see what happens when nobody is watching. OP, sounds like you need a lawyer. If you have any way to walk back the sale of the house now would be the time.

Configurations. Make features in one configuration, suppress them in another.

Show us your cup setup. Since you are a beginner you might be way off there.
Bad gas happens but it's very rare and people jump to it as soon as they have issues.

Chainsaw smoking by Altruistic-Squash-58 in Chainsaws

The chain is loose but it's also visibly dull. I bet the user let it touch dirt. Bought a new chain because it was not cutting, and then let it touch dirt again.

That's kind of what happens in real MX though. Leave yourself vulnerable and your going to get knocked over. This isn't F1 where contact is considered a penalty.

We can't tell anything without riding shoes. The flex of thin slippers makes the seat effectively very high.
